A number of PHOTON 4G smartphones have been reported to be experiencing the exact same symptom – when placing calls, the other party cannot be heard in the earpiece when speaking...

They already corrected this issue for me yesterday. They are pushing out a refresh as people call in to correct the issue permanently. Great phone by the way. Just a software issue.

I have this issue and it is definitely a PITA, but I can make phone calls with out them constantly dropping like the EVO 3D does. Rebooting does fix this issue.....I still like it better than the EVO 3D

I too like the photon. I am coming from the Epic and I really want to keep this phone and I am dealing with the issue for the moment but if it is not resolved soon I will return it within my 30 days. I have to reboot it at least 2-3 times a day because of this issue. Hope this software fix comes very soon.

My Photon is working great! I'm not a fan of Motos new 'blur' gallery set up, but I downloaded an app called QuickPic & that fixed that. I love the phone a lot. Now all I need is the Bionic next month & I'll have the two hottest phones on the top two CDMA markets.

Sprint told me the issue is a "known" issue and a "fix" will be available with the next software release. They were not able to provide a date when the "fix" will be made available. Their advice was to power cycle the phone to correct, which I find burdensome. Rebooting does fix the issue, temporarily. What a PITA.

I am not sure if I was clear to you guys in my post above. They told me they fixed the issue already. They are pushing it out on a call in basis at the moment, They have to refresh your phone by having you turn it off, take the battery out, wait 30 seconds and then power it back on. From thier end they sent me something and they said it was a permanent fix. I hope they were right. So far so good.This just was last night that they did this. Good luck!

If it really fixes your phone, please let me know in a few days because they did the same and had me do a factory reset and it worked fine for a while (the longest time since I had the phone) then started again.

I am a Motorola Photon user. I love this phone , Its the best but I do have the same issue .
I was told by a Sprint Tec to return my phone , It will not go against the 30 day return if the device has a issue . So if it continues after the return I will surely return it if they have not fixed the issue. Other then this issue Its the BEST.

Not surprising at all. out of all the Android turds out there, Motorolas are the absolute worst. Then again, they are well known for making s**tty devices.

lol right! I had Nextel phones made by motorola and when the buttons fell off they told me all i had to do was glue them back on since this was apparently the factor method...WOW! Not surprising they sent this phone out without the proper testing! Nice hardware though!

Both my sister and I have new Photons... and both of them have the problem. It almost ALWAYS happens after using Bluetooth. Rebooting the phones fixes it every time, but very frustrating. Sometimes it happens a few times a day. Mine got stuck in a reboot cycle for about 2 hours over the weekend.
Sprint told me an update is on the way....Motorola gave me some absolute nonsense about how much they care about and listen to their customers, but they didn't even answer any questions about the problem, both through chat and email support.
I love this phone....but Motorola may as well not even have customer service, they are completely useless. I really hope they fix it because this phone is awesome otherwise!

Paulyyd you trolling tool! The iphone 4 had that antenna issue when it first came out! You couldn't hold the phone in the palm of your hand or else it would drop signal.

i have had the photon for about to a week and have the same problem even after rebooting the phone sometimes it still doesn't work. thinking about switching to the evo 3d at least i known HTC is reliable.

I have this issue and returned 2 phones already. How could they not have known about this issue. I am sure someone tested it before release. This is like buying a new car where the engine wont start...WTF MOTO!!!!

I got a PHOTON the first release day and have been through 4 of them...kept thinking, and was told bad batch, but finally realized it was a huge production issue that never should have gone forth. ANYWAY, all we really need to know are the specifics on this thread. WHEN is a patch being pushed that will fix the problem permenantely if there is one out there at all and how do you get it - via the store or some other method? Thanks...loved the phone but won't go back until a permanent fix is out there. Power cycling is NOT a fix BTW!

Same problem here. With all the great things this phone is capable of doing I guess Motorola and Sprint forgot the most important thing....Making and Receiving calls!

Moto too has been acting up. Luckily for me I don't make too many calls and use it mainly for text and data. There have been a few times where this problem has proved itself pretty annoying, so I can only imagine how terribly inconvenient this problem. Would be for somebody who makes lots of calls everyday. Love my photon and personally have never had any issues like this with my past android devices. Anyone know if there is something better coming out though, that I would be able to trade my photon in to get instead? Evo 3d maybe?

I just got this phone 2 days ago It's a good phone, but the pentile screen has really been bothering me and the responsiveness isn't that great to finish it off the phone call glitch is annoying. It works after a reboot for a little bit, but then it doesn't work I'm thinking about returning it and wait for the Samsung Galaxy S2 or Droid Bionic.

Also, the Photon at least once a day does not wake back up from sleep mode. I hit the button on the top right, and the screen does not come back on. Checked all settings. This phone is buggy. I had an EVO prior and that was an amazing phone. HTC sense was 10 software wise. The Photon software wise is a 4.

I heard taking out the SIM card and deleting GV will solve the problem. This is my 2nd Photon and both have had the same silent call issue. I tried taking the SIM out and deleting GV just now, I'll be updating this tomorrow to let you guys know if it worked the rest of you should do the same.

Have had the photon for about two weeks now. During the first week the phone was fine, but now having the silent call issue happen every day. I love this phone but i need it to work as a phone. I got this phone because i used to have the Samsung Nexus S 4G. that phone suffered fro reception issues. (horrible 4g and 3g speeds, and dropped calls) so now this. Seriously considering leaving Sprint.

Have had silent call issue everyday for 2 weeks. Exchanged the phone for a second one earlier this week and had the same issue with the new one the following morning. I turned off the battery saving mode and put it in the performance mode and havent had a problem since.

Yes, same problem, and is very very frustrating as I've waited 2 years to replace my phone and now have had to reboot the phone while trying to receive and place calls...good thing I haven't been in an emergency situation when needing to do this.

I used to have this issue A LOT, but since the last update, I haven't had the issue a single time. I love this phone a lot, and looking forward to keeping it now. I jsut want to thank the guys at Sprint for fixing the issue before I had a chance to return it. lol.

I still have this issue. I've done a factory reset, updated the PRL and rebooted the phone. Rebooting the phone seems to fix things on a temporary basis, but I still get the silent calls within a day. I was speaking with a Sprint rep this morning and they told me that they're well aware of the issue and they will release an update on Friday (August 26th) to fix this. Hope they're right!

Just in time for everyone's 30 day return period to expire. For those of us that purchased it on the 28th of July when they had early ordering for Sprint Premier. If they don't fix it I am sure they will have a flood of returns this weekend and I, for one, will be right there. I love this phone better than any other Android I have had so far but I get tired of having to reboot. Its like when someone wants to call me I ask them to test first and then wait a couple minutes while I make a call to see if it needs to be rebooted or not and if so then reboot it then have them call or I call them. What type of sh... is that. Just hope its not a false promise.

The update is out as of right now. I have updated mine so hopefully this takes care of the issue. Just do a software update check if you havent and it should update.

yep this is 100% true.. TRUE STORY! my house was on fire and had to dial 911.. the photon went silent on the call i had to pull the battery out and call again.. very very stressing

Yup! My photon will get a call with silence, and when I try to call them back, the phone restarts in the middle of connecting. Lately it has been restarting when I hang up from a working call as well.. most frusterating as this is my main line for my business.

my photon the first day it rebooted itself 2 times and later that night it turned off and could not turn on.So i took the battery out and waited then it turned on so i charged it for 2 hrs.It worked for about an 1 hr and then turned off again and now nothing.

I just bought a Photon and am seeing this issue. The phone worked for a few days, but now it has the slient call issue. I am going to try uploading software to see if that works, but I feel that it should have come from Sprint with the upgrade already having been done.

I purchased a Motorola Photon 4G on the 15th of August. within a Day, i was experiencing a glitch several times a day where the phone would stop receiving messages and notifications but would appear to be funtioning otherwise. It also had the silent call issue. Then randomly, the phone would power down and reboot on its own and i would receive up to about an hour worth of missed notifications. I returned the phone on the 3rd of September and replaced it with another Photon.
The Second photon i received would not make or receive phone calls. I called Sprint customer care from another line and spent an hour on the phone with tech support and reset the device to factory default (lost all my music, apps, and pictures). Then the phone would not reactivate. I took it into a Sprint store later that day and they were able to get it to activate and then update profile and it then made phone calls. Unfortunately, the internal speaker for phone calls was so quiet i could barely hear the person on the other end of the line talking. with the volume at max, it behaved as if it were on the lowest setting. Speaker phone (external speaker) worked fine but i had to use a Bluetooth device if i wanted to be able to hear what the person on the other end was saying.
I returned that phone on the 13th and replaced it with the 3rd, Motorola Photon 4G. That was 2 days ago and since taking it home, the phone has (almost 10 times now) locked up on black screen and i have been unable to tap the power button to bring up the screen or hold the power button to reboot the phone. Each time, i have had to remove the battery and then reboot. My 30 day exchange period from the time of purchase ended yesterday and i have been told to go pound sand. As an average consumer, i am beyond upset.
I do not know if i am unlucky to have 3 brand new phones within 30 days that were all lemons or if the Photon 4G really is just a terribly glitchy device and was poorly tested before hitting the market. Regardless, I encourage anyone reading this who is considering getting the phone to proceed with caution.

I also have had two phones. I hate this phone and am so sorry you are experiencing the same issues. I have rebooted, factory reset and hard reset and it is simply junk. Good luck.

I had a problem with my Photon just shutting itself off and restarting during phone calls. Well, to be more specific, if I place a call and switch to speaker mode after it has connected the call quality becomes static. Then if I switch off speaker mode the static that was previously not present before I went to speaker mode is now there too. Then when I end the call, and call right back (hoping there won't be static) the phone says it's connecting for about 10 seconds, and then just shuts off and restarts. Also, it's not a one time thing, if I do this sequence of events exactly as I put above the end result is guaranteed. Sprint replaced my phone once already for this issue, and it's still happening. Don't know what else to do..

Hello, Just wanted to post some warnings to Sprint customers. I had been with sprint for well over a decade. A while back I traded up (atleast I thought I did) to the Photon. The silent calls are not the only bugs in this phone (had two in a three week period) but shutting down. And you must remove the batt. to bring it back up. But the real reason for this posting is the returned phones. I recieved a call from a lady and she didn't even know who I was. You see she was on her 2nd Photon Phone (my 1st) and when she would go to access her voicemail it was calling me. I had done bailed on Sprint and there no customer service and moved my number to a new carrier. Here the Sprint Store repackaged my phone and sold it to her as a new phone with my information still in it. So with this extreme breach of personal data I was forced to go thru and change all my critical info (passwords and such) on all my stuff. And by the way, it was her 2nd phone as well. So you current owners of the Photon Phones please beware. You too may not even been sold a new.

I have a cool photon 4g. it took good pictures but the phone has bug on it as it reboot a few time while I am trying to make a phone call. Sprint service center reset one and it has upgrade one but it still has a same problem. WAITING FOR SPRINT CLEAN THE BUG. :-(((

Hi - I am on my 2nd photon phone and there is clearly a glitch in both. I was so hoping the second one would be fine. I am having the same problems as others...making a call and it never connects but shows that the call is in progress. I try to end the call and will not unless I reboot...V-E-R-Y FRUSTRATING to say the least. The Photon also just shuts down all on its own. My excitement over having a "smart" phone is fading FAST!
Maybe it is not so 'smart' after all - my old Samsung could at least make a simple phone call!!

On my second unit. Silent calls issue has been fixed but calls go to voicemail without
ring notification and somtimes without voicemail message. Have tried hard reset. Tech guys at Sprint cannot fix it. Has anyone else had this issue? Should I just give up on this phone?

My Photon not only does the "silent" call it also puts people on mute or speaker. Even better it hangs up on people and calls people whenever it chooses. The other issue I have is the screen locking up. I have to push the top button again and again just to be able to slide my screen to answer the phone. To say I dislike this phone is mild, I HATE THIS PHONE. To all of you who say get another one, well send me the money and I will.
