Some Motorola DROID X units have been shipped with defective screens
You might excuse some Motorola DROID X owners tonight if they seem a bit preoccupied. Some might think they are seeing double, or having problems with their eyes. We can assure you, DROID X owners, that the problem is not with you. You see, it isn't just the Apple iPhone 4 that had a problem almost immediately upon launch. The Android forums are alive tonight with word that some units of the new Android flagship model, the Motorola DROID X, were shipped with defective screens. The trouble is either graphical or electrical and results in rapid flickering and vertical banding on all or some of the unit's 4.3 inch display. Verizon has already replaced some models with some customers being told that the problem was common among launch day inventory. If you are one of the unlucky ones who had a problem with their DROID X screen, let us know what your display was doing and how Big Red did right by you. While word of this problem has just started to make its way out of the forums, we should be able to come to a conclusion in the next few days about how differently Verizon/Motorola and Apple/AT&T each handled their respective predicament.

Oh. Well. Shit. Um. I guess I'll just double check every X I get in stock. Of course, gotta make the obligatory joke: "There is no problem with the screen. Look at your Droid correctly."

Haha. If this happened to the iphone first reaction is you are holding it the wrong way. Then hold press conference and give out screen protectors.

You Serious! This happend to some droid and this sorry a$$ website is making it out to be every droid. Wow, apple must have a colt member for a writer here. Please don't compare to iphone's reception issues that every single phone has. Idiots!!!

My favorite is steve job saying what reception problem. Hurry yank all articles that mention the reception problem and tell the authorities that they found a iphone and hacking into to it so we can take all of their equipment from them and it'll keep them from posting untill we replace the millions that want a free case. Ha ha ha lmao. Apple colt members make me laugh. ;)

Not to pick sides or anything, but I think if Apple instead had this screen issue and Droid X had reception issues, I think the same reaction that Apple had with reception would have been equal to it having a screen problem. So, honestly, when you bring up issues, either way, if its about Apple, people like you are bound to jump on them with negativity like a fat kid on cake. I think its already been discussed over and over again on this site that people like you are getting kinda boring and old now. So you can stop at any time...

Google didn't make this phone, Apple makes the iPhone so they have control of the process and the fact that they denied it had a problem is what bothers customers, they also didn't offer a long term solution. Android is an Operating System! Apple's problem is wide spread, this is a defective batch. Not to mention there are six "droid" models and only one iphone made by Apple. The "droids" have four manufacturers. facts please. thank you.

I will agree this issue sucks and I am equally dissapointed this couldnt be a "problem free" launch, however, Apple fans rub in so much about their phones it leaves little room for us up and coming Android users to have a defense when it comes to competition. So this 1 issue, yeah it sucks, but Android users in General snub their noses HALF as much as iPhone users, that why Apple has such a huge target on their back...Look at me look at me...iphone iphone iphone

Theres a big difference between Moto and Apple . Moto is admitting there device has some issues, Apple is dening them good old Steve is trying to close his eyes and ears hoping it will all go away. These "screen issues" if people try to jailbreak there droid x that is what they get, a big brick.

+1 its bascially feeding the egos of the i phone fanboys out there and justifying thier crappy i phone with any other phone on the market...this is NORMAL. When was the last time a big company like motorola sent out a device without issues from the manufacturer? seroiusly. even cars have recalls .. eh eeem toyota? you people need to relax! if your so eager to get one and get it working, make sure your not one of the crazy idiots thats not waiting in line at 4am for the phone, that simply means your taking a risk by buying the first batch. If you wait they usually know what the kinks are, and you will get one that works! all im saying is that the phones great and this isnt something that should come as a surpris to anyone especially apple fans lol relax.. the probobility of you getting a malfunction is a lot lower then you would think..

Actually the "Droids" have two, and only two different manufacturers. HTC makes the Droid Incredible and the Droid Eris; Motorola makes the Droid and Droid X. So what were you saying about facts?

Its really funny how you guys bash on the Apple fanboys. You are just as bad. DROID X bahhhhhhhhh Verizon bahhhhhhhh So now it is shipping with a broken screen and you already need a an ota "fix" some other fundamental issues. But I guess its ok that your screen does not work or even your wifi does not work or your camera is laggy among other things. Oh wait its ok becuase they announced it to to world. Congrats your phone is still buggy one way or another. You guys are idiots. +1 to you HOVA

Really Herb? Anyone? I sure as he'll wouldn't. They are both bad problems and yes the EVO had it's fair share as well. So before you go on your misguided rant about how awesome the EVO is (even though the Droid X smoked it in benchmark tests) you need to check yourself. Don't make generalized statements and make up other people's minds for them. I guarantee they don't like it. PS. If you come back defending the EVO please don't use the kickstand as an advantage. I'm getting really sick of hearing that crap.

Before you go on ranting about how bad the EVO is, you should go check the SUPPOSED glue isue for yourself. What good is the slightly higher benchmark when the screen can crap out on you any second? EVO several key features that X is missing, including the KICKSTAND.

posted on 20 Jul 2010, 12:10

32. gambino37 (Posts: 146; Member since: 16 Oct 2009)

Exactly what I meant. The supposed glue issue is no better or worse than the supposed faulty screens on the X. A far as the benchmark tests, better is better no matter how you slice it. You can have your kickstand, snadragon chip, and front facing camera (which you will use five times maybe). Other than the camera, I don't see any other features that the EVO has that the X doesn't. Wanna fill me in? LOL I'll take my Droid X any day. By the way, hows that massive Sprint 4G coverage working for you? LMAO

Phones with the "Glue issue" are still functional... dead screen on X.. not so much. The front facing camera gets used a lot.. but not if youre fugly. I can see someone like you using 1 or 2 times. Whats BESTabout being on EVO/Sprint with is a feature you fail to realize... TRUE UNLIMITED DATA, 4G or not. So with apps like Neflix coming out, that will be a crucial feature.. along with the KICKSTAND! Enjoy that oversized humpback, non kickstand X. Good luck trying to watch a movie on that for a prolonged period proping it up against a cup... wa wa

As I said before the front facing camera us a novelty, at best. Whether I'm fugly or not. (good comeback, what are you? Five years old?) I never said the X had more than the EVO, it just does it better. And please clarify for me how I don't have true unlimited data? You make no sense at all. Why the hell do I care about Nokia? LTE is coming along just fine. Guess what! I don't pay an extra $10 a month for 4G that I don't get! WOW man you really got me on that one.

Yes, I am 5.. good comeback on your part. X does NOTHING better than EVO. The reason I dont make sense to you and why your arguing the losing side is cuz youre ignorant. We happily pay the extra $10 for true unlimited. Google VZW unlimited data and also google Moto and Nokia.. cant teach you everything.

I really dont understand how stupid you are. Facts are facts homeboy. LOOK THAT SHIT UP. Droid X beat the EVO in all benchmark tests. I already did google Motorola and Nokia where do you think I got my FACTS from? YOU...ARE...WRONG. Face it idiot. Im still confused what your whole "true" unlimited argument is. I have NO LIMITS on my data with Verizon. None...AT ALL.... does that make it false unlimited? You are proving yourself far more ignorant with each and every one of your posts. Give it up retard. Ill even give up the EVO/Droid X argument just to have fun proving you wrong with all the other complete nonsense you have posted on here. Next time back your crap up before you post. I definitely dont want to be taught by your stupid ass anyway so Im happy with where I stand.

Shit that's a shitty problem on a phone whose biggest draw is the display. I hope this isn't widespread. Hopefully a very quick OTA update can fix this and it's not a hardware issue.

phone arena must take their cue from steve jobs, they reports some screens being defective by the end of the article all screens were defective and they were showing comparison to apple's serious design flaw in their phone. as i said before this site is purely for laughs and not serious information as the writers are very bias .

Sprint will kick you off their network if you roam more than 50% of the time not 75%, trust me, I know, I got kicked off their network for roaming, which is ok with me cause I was going to switch anyway. I live in a major metropolitan area too, not the middle of a desert.
