Snapdragon demand pushes Qualcomm fiscal Q3 profit up 31%

0. phoneArena 25 Jul 2013, 18:17 posted on

Earlier today, we ran a story about how MediaTek could overtake Qualcomm in the mobile space because the biggest growth market right now is in low-end devices, which is where MediaTek lives, and Qualcomm is just a visitor. But, whatever the future may hold, Qualcomm's fiscal Q3 earnings report shows that the company is doing quite well in the here and now...

A wonderful competitor of Samsung's Exynos chipset.

The Exynos chip is an ARM design, not a Samsung design, and while competent, it's no Qualcomm competitor. Qualcomm sells hundreds of millions of its chips, and last I checked, the Exynos chips sell a few tens of millions a year.

Whatever but it is developed and manufactured by Samsung Electronics and is a continuation of Samsung's earlier S3C, S5L and S5P line of SoCs.

I didn't get the point of Napalm_3nema's comment to be honest.... I though your point was clear.... It didn't see why He/She felt the need to go into detail about the chipsets being used.

Its because some people have to prove their extra smartness to others.
And you can see the example in Comment 7

I was just pointing out that too many people give Samsung too much credit for their chips, when they do little more than fab (There are some modifications, but they are minor). Qualcomm, like Apple, Intel, Nvidia, and AMD, design their own chips. Apple, Nvidia, and Qualcomm all use ARM reference as a starting point, then use their ARM Architecture licenses to design their own, unique SoCs. The volume is a differentiator for Qualcomm, as is the actual design.

I have owned plenty of Samsung phones, including the S4. Maybe you should try to get outside your little fandroid Samesung box sometime.

Qualcomm needs to make desktop chips, intel has a monopoly on them.

Desktop demand is way down, which is exactly why Intel is making a big push into mobile chipsets. Qualcomm is in the right sector but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to get into desktop chipsets it they successfully compete with Intel, so long as their mobile business does not suffer.

Well i hope qualcomm continue in making a good chip to compete others in the market. I sure hope they make a low end chip that doesnt lower the performance and gpu performance.
