How interesting. Maybe Verizon is laying the groundwork to provide more data services and use voip services for voice. Maybe free up more network resources for data traffic and less for voice. Hmm, that would seem like the logical thing to do.

Huh? Verizon's voice service is solely operated on the good ol' 1xRTT network. EVDO is exclusively for data. There's nothing really to free up. VoIP would simply eat into the data capacity.

hence the transistion of mandatory data packages on even some of the basic handsets !!! it makes sense if you think about it.

Doesn't mean he does not have a point or that it is a bad thing. The people who scored him down are dumb.

There is no way VZW is announcing something w/ skype. Wouldn't that possibly make things easier and/or cheaper for customers? We all know they are the worst company for doing things that benefit the customer right? Where are the VZW haters at? B/c if this was AT&T every comment on here would be abotu how great they are and how VZW would never do something customer friendly.

If you think about it, this would be smart on all ends. It would stop overages and reduce churn which is a big concern for any wireless company. Verizon Wireless is trying to get people to do more with data. This would help pull people in that direction. If you look at it, data is cheaper for companies and in honesty, pure revenue after the bandwidth is paid for. Voice is no longer the way to grow a company or grow your revenue. Data transmission is the way to go and I believe this could be a win-win for everyone!!!! People can start lowering those minute plans and get more data on thier phones!!!!

I was being facetious. I am a promoter for vzw. Only tools down ranked my comment b/c I was mocking them and they did not have a logical rebuttal.

Seems like someone is goin "-1" happy. Don't think any one of these comments deserved a -1. All the comments seemed to make logical sense to me. I'm just curious about what LTE will bring...not a big Skype user.
