Skype 7.0 for Android brings a revamped tablet interface

Microsoft has released a new and notably improved version of Skype for Android. Skype 7.0 for Android brings a revamped tablet interface that should enable more efficient communication while also making it much easier to search for contacts and chats from inside the app.

The new Skype for Android version comes with a new user interface for tablets. Microsoft says that it has redesigned the tablet UI from the ground up with Material Design principles in mind, and the end result is fairly pleasing on the aesthetic level. The update also adds a floating action button (FAB) that allows users to quickly engage in a conversation - be it a message, a voice call, or a video call - from the main screen.

Probably the coolest change introduced with the tablet version of Skype 7.0 for Android is a new multitasking system. During a call, just flip your tablet in landscape orientation and you'll be able to check the latest conversions and send files with the call still in focus.

The new update also brings Microsoft's universal search to Android slabs. On the main screen of the app, users can quickly find contacts, chats, and groups by typing into the search bar. If you're the type of Skype user with tons of contacts in your address book, you're probably going to appreciate the new universal search feature.

Skype 7.0 for Android is now available from the Google Play Store. Once you update the app on your Android tablet, check out the new update and let us know what you think of Microsoft's revamped Skype UI for Android tablets.
