Siri, why are you on the Apple iPad mini but still not the Apple iPad 2?

0. phoneArena 23 Oct 2012, 22:10 posted on

What does Siri have against the Apple iPad 2 anyway? In announcing the Apple iPad mini on Tuesday afternoon, Apple revealed that the smaller tablet would support Apple's voice activated personal assistant while those with the iPad 2 are still shut out...

It's not Apple who is stupid, that's those who bought iPad2.

Then what's the right word for Apple? That's greed.

The iPad 2 is yesterday's news. Apple doesn't want you to become friendly with Siri if all you have is an iPad 2 - you aren't worthy enough.

People will still take out money to buy apple products no matter how s**tty they are..

They buy it for the Half eaten Apple logo not for the experience !

Allow PaPi to answer that question: simply put, if my sister SiRi were on iPad 2 then those folks with SiRiLess iPad 2 would never consider upgrading to iPadMiNi and, therefore, Apple's Q4 profits would be greatly emaciated.

the answer is greed of more and more AND more profits by selling the almost same iSh1t every now and then

I really don't get why Apple hasn't given siri to the ipad 2.

Siri was released with the iphone 4s when the ipad 2 was barely 6 months old if my memory serves me right..

Apple are great with their updates but I will never understand why they restrict devices that aren't actually that old.

I guess Apple is trying to say that SIRI needs an A5 or higher processor. iPhone 4S, came with the A5 and SIRI.

Siri will not be a part of the iPad 2 because apple wants its customers to buy a newer generation of their tablet so they can make some iCash.

iPad Mini got Siri but iPad 2 and iPhone 4 didn't. Apple is on a trolling spree lol.

None of the prior comments address the real issue: Reducing the need to buy a smartphone with a large screen. What Apple did was brilliant.

It will take the market 6 - 9 months for the market to understand what Apple did. The obvious move was to get more people into the Apple Ecosystem and Apple wants these people to get the best Apple experience so they are discouraging iPad 2 sales to free up capacity for the iPad Mini.

The not so obvious move is to show people you don't need a smartphone with 4.8" or greater screens (when measured diagonally). Just think about how cheap android devices is today. For about $100, you can get a fast processor, lots of memory, a decent screen (say 3.5"), a 3.2 MP camera/camcorder, etc. all while paying $45 a month or less off-contract. If you want 4G data speeds, the Exhibit II with a 3.7" screen is selling less than $150 and $30 a month gets you 5GB of 4G data. With the money saved, would you buy a crappy Kindle or Nexus 7 or get the Apple Mini. You get much more real estate with the Apple Mini than the Nexus 7. Consumers are starting to be upset for spending about $100 a month over a 2-year contract for a top-end android smartphone that becomes ancient in 6 to 9 months. I guarantee you that 9 months from now, the current top-of-the-line of android smartphones will make your current smartphone look dated. The speed of innovation in the smartphone space is just incredible.

Kindle, BN's Nook, Android tablet OEMs were all caught flatfooted when Apple announced its Apple Mini and next generation iPad. Overnight, Apple render many of the existing and yet to be announced tablets into uncompetitive products.

"Apple render many of the existing and yet to be announced tablets into uncompetitive products."

this has got to be the most stupid statement ive heard. you assume that a blown up ipod will render a surface(pro,rt), nexus 7, or nexus 10(coming on october 29) uncompetitive..why because it is a 7.9 inch ipod touch thats merely a toy compared to those tablets ive mentioned. typical isheep mentality " all you need is the minipad". It doesnt even holdup to a nexus 7 (a one year old device) in terms of specs price and useablity what more when the next nexus comes out. really if this is THE best apple can do this year man are you in for a huge disappointment.

After their stock dropped over $20 today, I'm not so sure the stockholders agree.

That's what I've been watching. In the past, stock has done well after the introduction of a new product. The device that created the most buzz, flatline to declining. There's a lot of factors but looking at AAPL, confidence is weakening.

You want to know why it makes your current smartphone look outdated? Because they actually do proper upgrades to it to make the experience better. Unlike Apple which does minor updates, which is why you are only paying for the prestige of owning the "latest" when you can pick up an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 5 and the experience will be exactly the same (Since you iFans love to brag that iOS runs smoothly even on the iP4).

One word: Money. Apple is giving iPad owners a reason to upgrade.

After this latest event, I really hope Apple fans start to finally realize just how greedy this company really is. The only stat the mini has on sy a Nexus 7 is screen size. Which means nothing. I feel so bad for the knew that fall for their storage prices as well. IOS is a tired and date app. Launcher. If I actually see someone with one of these I will giggle.

Sometimes I really cannot stop understand!
Is it real reason to give up my ipad2 and pay 600-800euro (depends the version) for Siri!!!Who gives a ... about Siri, after all if you don't play so many games(buy a game console) and you only use your tablet for internet, mail, and general everyday use it doesn't worth any update.

Of course if I was starting now with Ipads,, then yes i would buy Ipad 4,,but not now!!
From the other hand sorry for Ipad 3 users that their product is already outdated, in comparison with Ipad 2 which is long time in the market and still is!!

The bottom line, somehow apple saw no respect for costumers money and devaluing a product so expensive like Ipad 3 so fast, however it doesn't feel this way for Ipad 2.

P.S.: Next holiday season, (money earning opportunity), Ipad 5 will come which will spot the same thin bezel of Ipad mini, and new Ipad Mini will spot higher resolution and the A6 Processor, and so the story goes.... lets go to buy now..

Why do we have to feel for the owners of the iPad2? It was their choice to buy it, they weren't forced to.

actually i dont have a bad experience with iPad 2... it perform task like i wanted to... play games, creat docs etc etc... so the processor that apple make only works for iDevices..not for android which by the way has a lot of chips... Qualcomm, NVidia, TI, MediaTek,STEricson, Samsung etc etc which make android performance different from each other...

the very reason why microsoft only allow manufacturer to make a WP with qualcomm chips on it....even though it would be nice to add Tegra chips or exynos for WP!

Damn the iPad 3 & its 8 months before it was replaced by iPad 4th generation. Apple is getting a bit too aggressive with their upgrade schedule. However I do like the updates to iOS 6.

Siri was always giving me grief that I didn't use her much. She was like mmmm I am not listening.

I recently found the Basic Siri FAQ & posted to my blog on My5Case.
