Apple usually doesn't sue for money. That's Microsoft's M.O. Apple is out for blood. With how they are suing Samsung and HTC, they want injunctions against them to stop production.

something tells me there was some internal turmoil. noone drops a huge position like "director of iphone apps" to go "focus on other things".

Yes I agree, to leave & not enjoy the fruits of your labor seems suspicions to me. We will never know what goes on behind closed doors at Apple but to me internal turmoil could be very true. The man looks too young for an excuse like that. I could be 100% wrong, but as business man to me it does look a little strange for such a abrupt departure. I guess we will never know!

agreed,was definitely internal turmoil most probably apple trying to massively overstep the boundaries of control again. This is no adobe ie. a separate entity or company,siri was bought out by apple and as so this Poor Dag Kittlaus had no choice but to bow to apples overlord dominion. The only way for him was to leave no doubt in 'Amicable' ways.......Lets see how long it is before he gets picked up by a free and open platform!!

Maybe I'm missing something, but my Galaxy S II does the same things that Siri does. Sets alarm clocks, opens apps, opens texting and sends texts, gets me directions and so forth, all at the request of my voice. The only thing, my phone doesn't backtalk :)
Wonder why he left.

You are right because i have used this feature on both phones and SIRI by far understands me better. Or maybe it's because the voice recognition is from 'nuance' and i been using them to write projects for years.

I agree that Android is capable of the majority of the same functions... but as someone who owns a Thunderbolt and uses voice commands on a daily basis, I would take Siri if someone offered it to me.
No, I do not think it is as ground breaking as it is advertised to be, but I wouldn't mind being able to speak to it in more of a conversation format rather than a simple command.
Bottom line is that both Siri and Android get the job done but in my opinion Siri is a more elegant way to do it.

Maybe Dag wants to spend more time with his family and work near them? He has now put himself 'on the market' as it were. It will be interesting to see who picks him up.
If he shows up at Google, we may get to see if Steve really passed away....

Besides, he probably had to agree to guide Siri along until it made its first production release on the iPhone as a condition of the acquisition (and his share of the acquisition price got vested). Now Dag is free (if he doesn't get sued for moving to Google if that is where he ends up).

Yes it does. You can select text throughout the entire OS and it will read it back to you.

wait... seriously? thats how it works??? LOL!!!! i can choose anything on my phone and it will read it to me. isnt the point that u dont need to LOOK at your phone... if i have to look and select what i want read then what good is it? id just read it.

Show me evidence of an Android phone getting an emil, and automatically read it back to you with no interaction with the phone whatsoever.

If I'm listening to music on my headphones, and I hear the notification that I've received a new text or email, i simply hold the mic button for Siri, say "read message" and it does it. Phone is still in my pocket. This 4S is my first Apple product, had Android since the OG Droid and will be purchasing the Nexus Prime or the Razr next month to interchange with my 4S.
Oh, I also have a Xoom, waiting patiently for ICS.

Well, the cover story about Kittlaus's parting may ne true, but Jobs has a troubling track record of playing cuckoo wasp to companies, getting in on them and then ousting founding members to take their place through shady means. He did it to Pixar, he did it to Apple when he came back. Of course he's dead now, but Nuance was acquired before he died, and Apple was rumored to have set up a system to keep doing things the Jobs way.

Spouting non sense again? You should read his biography so at least you'll know what you're talking about. I'm sure there's some shady app on android where you can download it free. I know you don't like paying for stuff.

I love the generalization here. Tell me, Taco, since you can see so far into me, to what extent do I "not like to pay for stuff"? Do you mean to insinuate that I constantly steal? Do you mean to insinuate that sometimes I'd rather see if I can obtain something for free if I'm not sure plunking down my hard earned cash wouldn't be a gigantic waste?
Have you read the biography yourself? I've read the introduction and part of the first chapter. (free preview from Amazon). It's promising. There's supposed to be good and bad in there. We'll see what details get revealed in the biography.

"free" I knew that was the key word for you. Most android users pick it because it's easy to pirate music and apps plus there's a ton of free apps on it. They also hate to spend a few extra bucks for expandable memory. This despite the lack of support from OEM's and the buggy software.

I've never pirated an app. I only pirated one soundtrack because I couldn't find it in stores. And I'm more than willing to pay for an SD card. So you're wrong, wrong and wrong.
But it is nice not to have to wrestle with iTunes.

whats wrong in being frugle and not wasting money. I can pay .99 for angry birds or get it for free on android. free is always better when the end result is the same.
