Sign-up page on Motorola's site for the DROID X
With the Motorola DROID X MB810 about to make it's appearence in NYC on June 23rd, it made a preemptive sighting on Verizon's DROID DOES web site a few days ago, touting the 4.3" display, 720p video recording, and HDMI output. Not to be out-done, Motorola has now posted a special sign-up page for those of you who are dying to get your hands on the DROID X. Too bad Motorola doesn't list any of the official specs of the DROID X, as there is only a picture of the device, and you get an email saying "Thanks for registering. We will let you know as soon as the Droid X by Motorola is available." With the HTC Droid Incredible having major inventory shortages of about 3-4 weeks, due to Samsung's behind-schedule production of their AMOLED display, most people are waiting to see if the Motorola DROID X lives up to the hype and will be competitively priced to the HTC Droid Incredible ($199 after rebate).

Think...ppl are hypin the front facin camera a lil more than it needs to be. Video conferencin is not that big a deal...web cams have been around for years...so why is this such a desired feature? Just ice cream on the cake...could take or leave it (more so leave it). To say that the X isn't innovative enough based on the one feature...is a little ridiculous

no, their not. this phones TI processor eats up the snapdragon and the A4 chip and spits them out is disgust. front facing cameras are stupid and are just an excuse to have a longer specs list for a new phone.

So the HTC and Iphone are better cause of 1 feature (front facing camera)? I am sure I am not the only one who could care less about a front facing camera. Talking and texting is more than enough for me, I don't wanna see you or you to see me. That is one feature that doesn't break my sale. I am sure it will not break others as well.

I love the Android os either way but I can't wait for this Droid X processor to run circles around the EVO's snapdragon and use less battery life at the same time. Also you can screw your front facing camera until it is standard on smartphones. You will use it once and be done with it until you can use it on a daily basis with all other cell phone users.

The front facing camera on the evo and iPhone is not a feature to go crazy about. But at the same time, it's not a feature that you totally ignore like you guys are doing. At least these phones offer features that the Droid X doesn't. If the Droid had it and Iphone/evo didn't, you guys would make sure every knew that. And to CRICKETownz, we're not saying the Droid X isn't innovative enough because of 1 feature, we're saying it's just plain not innovative, sorry

cdma smart phone manufactures needs to figure out how to use all that (big screen, skype, 4g, hd video,...) on the same batteries. Having a charger in every car, work, pocket, is not tha way to go. Getting tired of all that. That why apple is best, slowly but surely.

All apple does is come out with the same phone every year with very little improvement. And look at the bezel on the top and bottom. The fact is that iphone was a great phone but is now just way over rated.

But the point of competitive marketing is to release a phone that exceeds peoples demands. you can't blame someone who releases 2 phones and say droid x and xo etc. Etc. Atleast its not apples marketing where its short changing everyone every six months to release a new phone with features people wanted to begin with. I.e. iPhone 2g, 3g, 3gs, and now 4. Talk about buyers remorse. People buy apple because they like apple, and apple is screwing with them with every phone they release. Giving back a few features they had full capability of adding a long time ago just to make a buck. Atleast the Droid saga is alternating manufacturers. Now if HTC desides to confront Verizon with yet another Droid phone, do you expect them to turn them down? Now you can choose which droid fits you, keyboard or no, large screen or no. Not iPhone iPhone iPhone iphone. If I was an apple consumer ID be twice as pissed, and its already bad enough from the sidelines. I say make as many Droids as you like, they're like shoes not everyone wants to wear the same pair.

EXACTLY, with the iphone you are stuck with what they have available. "Oh damn the iphone doesn't have this feature yet, oh well guess ill have to wait till next year and MAYBE they will add it on". With android you have phones all shapes and sizes, high end, low end, and yes even in the middle. You need a keyboard? There's android phones with. You need an ultra lightweight small touch screen? You got em, you want a huge powerful high spec android phone? There's that too. There is virtually every kind of phone for someone. Nobody says you have to buy the next android phones, its just an option available if you choose to. Sure hell beats waiting an entire year for slight modifications and added features. The iphone use to be the best, most powerful but android and moto, htc, samsung have really stepped up their game and flat out surpass the iphone. Each year the iphone just tries to simply catch up, just to be outdated moments later. Yes I will give apple credit, what the iphone does, it does well. But its over now and they are just going by overhype and fan base. It use to be "I'm cool I have the iphone and if you don't, then you're poor, you're a loser" ha not anymore. So yes apple fanboys still hold on to that claim as if it was still true and that's why they hate android. Because inside they know they are missing out, they know they are being ripped off and they are bitter for not having an android phone. This is coming from a guy who had the iphone 3g for over a year until he UPGRADED to the motorola droid. I could not be happier with verizon and android.

But yet every year, they sell and people buy millions of those phones. And every year, every manufacturer is trying to build the next IPhone killer. Every day people in this forum gripe about it as if though that will change something. It's really not that serious

How well something sells has really nothing to do with how great a product is. If you take something, overhype it, create a huge fan base off the over hype, it well sell. Apple has a huge fan base, that's why the iphone sells the way it does. Its the same thing with the Halo video games. Its completely over hyped and that's why it sells. You really think the EVO or Droid X is trying to compete with the iphone and be an iphone killer? Both phones have already surpassed the iphone 4, the iphone 5 will have the same specs as these phones but there will already be a dozen android phones that are twice as powerful.

Your right, +1...a front facing camera is only as good as the other people that have one to. I would use it to video chat with my kids if I was a way, or so my mom can see the kids, wait now kids need a phone and so does mom? Loss....when it is more popular and people use it more often you more likely to see a lot more than 1.3mp...

Yea exactly, with how slow, laggy, low end this new feature is right now. I'm glad the droid x skipped the front facing camera. Nobody really said until just now "oh god I can't have a phone that doesn't have a front facing camera". We did just fine without one before. Yes the faster processor, higher resolution, more memory and large responsive screen is what I have been wanting. I can live without a front facing camera until it becomes standard for high end phones. Once the tweaks have been made to perfect it, yes ill be interested then. But oh whoooping 2 phones have this feature right now and one of them isn't even out yet.

Man never thought I would get so much hating.... my point was that there isn't anything special about the Droid X. The iPhone is innovative with not just a front facing camera but new innovative apps like iMovie mobile and the new retina display, The Evo not only has a front facing camera but also offers WiMax and the ability to stream the video more effectively than 3G not even mentioning that the EVO costs less to own because of Sprints great price plans. Motorola didn't offer anything new with this phone it is a clone nothing more with nothing new to offer.

4G or Wimax, whatever Sprint is calling it. The technology is only offered in 13 states, and not all of the 13 states at that. So you're complimenting the wrong people. It's good that HTC made the EVO support 4G, but if you in a area that doesn't have 4G, than you minus well say it's not a feature. What if the Droid X did support 4g/LTE, the network isn't even launched yet. I will give Apple some credit (credit for good marketing) on their Retina Display, knowing what I know. Seeing recent articles and studies about the depths of their Retina technology, I'm not as impressed when i first watched the Apple Conference. Let I not forget that imovie has been on Macs, of course they can make an app for it. It's their program to begin with, they've had it since 1999. Everyone mimics off someone at some point, you minus well say Apple copyed HTC with the front facing camera, since HTC came out with their phone before the Iphone 4. I just don't view front facing camera as some huge break through, I think it will actually die down pretty fast.

@tiolawa, the Moto Droid X actually comes preloaded with this app that lets it control other media devices in the house (eyeConTroller). I mean, you can get it from the Market, but still...it's a fairly new app.

Well, the Dr that's an optical specialist that designs displays says that Mr. Jobs is incorrect. It's a brilliant marketing marketing pitch, but BA non the less. If Steve Jobs started selling real estate 100 miles west of SF, He'd make a fortune.

posted on 20 Jun 2010, 17:43

There's another doctor that says that Jobs is correct. Someone said that the threshold for the eye to see pixels is 477 ppi as opposed to 300 ppi that Jobs said. But the 477 ppi only applies to people with 20/20 vision. For the vast majority of people who don't have 20/20, the limit is around 300 ppi. Obviously Steve Jobs isn't goin to use 20/20 vision as the example, that would be stupid. It makes more sense to use the average. I really hope you guys enjoy your Droid X when it comes out. Just know that it doesn't do anything new. Even though I dislike the Evo, at least it attempts to do something new with 4G and front facing camera. iPhone also upped their screen resolution (by a lot), front facing camera, created a new video calling program which is open to any device (even those that work on 3G networks), iMovie, better battery life, etc. Oh yeah, and they updated their OS. Really guys, the Droid X doesn't do anything.

The iPhone video calling is actually only iPhone to iPhone in the US and is only avalible over wifi as for sprint thier 4G is only avalible in select cities right now.. and reports are it isnt any significant speed increases from 3g and lets not forget the EVO is an android device..

I didn't say it did anything new, he said it didn't do anything. Besides, it's going to have a faster cpu than most of the Android phones out there (Even though it's 1ghz if you look at the actual speed tests it's a better proc), it has been stated that it is more efficient on battery life because of changes to the cpu, it's not running the crappy Sense UI (some people like it, I don't.) Besides the specs, I haven't seen a single Android phone made by HTC that didn't feel and look like a toy, so i'm excited for another high powered Motorola Android phone. Compared to the Incredible, the actual shape of the phone seems to make more sense (why the hell they make the Incredible so when it's flat on a table the lens of the camera hits the table i'll never know)

I like how the Droid Incredible may actually get DISCONTINUED based on the release of the Droid X. I also like how I bought the Incredible and THEN the prelim specs for the X came out. But most of all, I like how I'm past the 30-day restock time period, and they say that the X has the same speed processor that produces less heat, so it overall works better. Wonderful. If i had verizon i would buy this phone, but i dont, i have sprint, and im satisfied. All you guys on here(or most) are just fanboys. Just pick your phone you want, and buy it when it comes out or wharever. This article has nothing to do with the evo or iphone 4, so why are you bringing it up. Damn idots............

Agreed, I think every one should just buy whatever phone that they want when it's available, and use it for a year or two, what ever the contract is. I doubt by then it would really be that much of a piece of shit to have to be crying about the next phone that comes out. Pick a phone, use it, and get a new one when your time comes.
