Shocking: Chinese teenager sells his kidney for an iPad 2

0. phoneArena 02 Jun 2011, 06:33 posted on

17-year-old Chinese boy Zheng liked the iPad just as pretty much every tech geek out there. But being seventeen means you don’t have your own money. Combine this with a mind-boggling local advertisement offering cash

At least this kid does not hope for anyone's organ or health to fail like you do. Who's the worse person?

he is. you give an organ to a family member or a friend in need. hes playing with his life. a person with no self-respect and no self-worth makes the worse person...tommorrow his mom needs a kidney transplant....what is he going to do?...donate her his ipad?

He is a kid. Kids make stupid decisions. If you're that concerned, why didn't you just get him his ipad2? Lol. The real bad people here are those who operated on him w/out his parents consent. But of course you don't consider those people because all you can see is this kid wanting the ipad so bad.

not an excuse. asked my 15 year old cousin if he would do the same and like a smart logical person he said no. you shouldnt give a person sympathy just because hes 17. a dumb person is dumb whether hes 17 or 40. hes a idiot no matter how you look at it

Well this is not your 15 yr old cousin. You are not even related to this kid. Your 15 yr old cousin has a different life from this kid. Different culture. Different upbringing. This kid is not old enough to make this decision, therefore, the adults are the ones to be blamed here, not the kid. Yet you only see the kid, and that's because he wanted the ipad so bad. And if he is 40 and made this decision, it is none of your business.

your write...he had a right to do whatever he wanted and the adults should also be held accountable but that doesnt cover the fact that hes an idiot and he is old enough. if he wasnt he would have still had his kidney. if he would have killed somebody would you have said he shouldnt be held accountable because hes seventeen and cant make his own decisions?

Donating a kidney is not a crime, killing is. So for you to have me compare those two actions as if they're in the same league is just wrong. He can be arrested for murder at 17, but not for donating his kidney. Again, I am not saying that what he did is totally alright, I'm just pointing out how Apple haters are more concerned of his reason for donating his kidney rather than those malpracticing doctors taking advantage of this kid.

im not comparing murder with donating a kidney. im saying he knew what he was doing. hes 17. hes not a 8 year that has no idea the ipad is not going to be relavent in 2 years or has no clue that the organs in his body are there for a reason. hes 17 and knows that his ipad will be a thing of the past in two years and that his kidneys are there for a reason. the idiot knew what he was doing and not to mention what if he breaks it or gets it stolen?......a plain idiot

You just asked me to compare. Of course he thinks he knows what he's doing. That's how kids are, and that's why they need adults for guidance, because teens usually make the worst decisions. At that age, gadgets and having other things that's hip are everything to them. What's inexcusable are those adults who took his kidney. This article would not have existed if not for those criminals who took advantage of this kid.

As usual, this is all a bad thing as far as Apple haters are concerned. Let's just forget about the other person who bought the kidney that now has a second chance to life :)

The kid sold his kidney and now got his ipad2. He is happy. The dying patient who bought the kidney could now live many years more, and is now also happy.

Two people are both happy, and I see negative posts here because???

It's ALWAYS a good thing to save a dying person's life. I know people who have donated their kidneys for free to strangers. This kid is smart. He got an ipad out of it :)

You people that are blaming apple are ridiculous. How and the Hell can Steve Jobs or Apple be blamed for this. He easily could have done this for a Xoom...er uh, well maybe not

Oh believe me. If this was a xoom tablet that this kid wanted, he'd get a standing ovation from the fandroids, if not, they will be more understanding with the kid and find a way to switch the blame to Apple, lol.

No! Selling your kidney is plain stupid! No matter what the device is. No device is worth compromising you health. Sure the kid could live with one kidney, but he is too young to understand the ramification of his actions. When he's a little older he'll see the error of his ways and really regret doing this. And before you go there, no, I don't think this is Apple's fault. Its the fault of everyone present and didn't speak up when that kidney was removed.

Selling of kidneys happen. It's a proven and working and safe procedure when done right. It's not a delicate procedure. It can even be done in an outpatient setting. So whatever your reasons are for selling your kidney, that's your call. But yes, he's not old enough to make that decision unless consented by the parents. The real criminals here are the people who took his kidney, not the kid. But fandroids hate the ipad more than those criminals, so that's why they pick on the kid :)

Everyone had something to say about this kid, even taco50! And I'm pretty sure he is no fan of Android. This is just plain stupid. I don't see how anybody can defend stupidity.

I am more upset with those doctors than this kid. That is all I am trying to say. Kids do stupid things. Instead of those doctors enlightening him, they took advantage of him instead. That's evil. But guess what? The kid gets picked on more, not the real criminals. Why? For wanting the ipad. He's a kid for crying out loud. Little kids would go far protecting their favorite toys. They would cry if you take their teddy bears away as if those teddy bears have lives. That's stupid as well. But again, that's the mentality of kids. For this kid, the ipad is everything, and he saw an opportunity to make money to afford it.
