Sharp finally flaunts its thin and efficient IGZO displays, Apple nods approvingly
0. phoneArena 01 Jun 2012, 07:21 posted on
The wait was worth it, since this new type of LCD and OLED screens promises thinner displays with higher resolutions and better efficiency - all steps in the right direction. IGZO does that by introducing crystallinity to the amorphous silicon typically used for production, and is a perfect match for smartphones, tablets and even ultrabooks, as a 13.5" OLED prototype with 3840x2160 pixels exhibits...

Good job Apple, time to move away from Samsung that shamelessly rip UIs and design.

What did you just day?
Samsung did copy some elements of ios at first, but they have reduced it gradullaly.
And I want this screen for the galaxy s4.

samsung copied at first and that's how they made their success. get controversial by being associated with the leading brand. they rode on the fame of apple and they succeeded.

Apple invested billions dollars in Sharp display plants, but Samsung and LG didn't worry too much because they are making the displays for their own smartphones too. Apple produced nothing.

why is it bad that apple uses other peoples displays? isnt it good they they go in search of the best displays possible rather than being stuck up and making their own-not-as-good ones?

do you think this screen can smoke my sgs3 screen?
YOU WISH!!! BWAHAHAHA

This is an ignorant statement. Did you read the specifications? Do you know the biggest drawback with Samsung SAMOLED displays? One of the biggest complaints with Samsungs OLED technology is that it has a blue'ish hue. Sharps new OLED specifically states "White OLED". In other words a completely better picture with higher resolution. Thanks for playing.

This mindless guy just got smoked by your comments lol

Haters gonna hate!! Samoled is always a winner!! Higher pixel means nothing!! And all lcd related screen suck big time!! SAMOLED IS THE BEST!!

one word: PENTILE!
even with high ppi i can still see pixelations..
if i can, i rather put S-LCD 2 or other RGB matrix screen in my SGS3.. PenTile just doesn't cut it for me..
not to mention the overly saturated colour.. LCDs have better colour reproduction..
what an ignorant..
32. pwnarena (Posts: 831; Member since: 15 Feb 2013)
most definitely. i'm writing this on 2013. the year when samsung fails to compete with higher resolution displays and skips amoled to go back to lcd to compete with the new HD displays.

ahh, good to see sharp stole tech from samsung, just like LG did.. yet, all those apple trolls that scream "samsung copies" dont care when actual tech gets ripped off, only when rectangle designs..
9. PC_Surgeon (Posts: 7; Member since: 27 Apr 2012)
As a consumer I care not who stole what from who. Competition breeds innovation. I will take my money to the best technology for the money I'm willing to spend.

@PC_Surgeon The hypocrisy is making me sick.

Even IF, I didn't say Sharp did. But so what, they get back what they deserve.
Samsung have been a robber industry wide in TVs, Refridgerator, oven, speaker, air conditioner, phones.

You're actually a f**ked up moron - in your fanboy dream s**tsung made everything. Reality is different.
LCD was pioneered by Sharp. Long loooong time before you saw Amoled on your samsung garbage in 2010, Sony put that on a PDA in 2004. Heck they even made an amoled tv in 2007 and walkman in 2009. And LG and Samsung are still trying to release that this year - LMAO. Now you're calling them innovators - your ignorance is beyond pathetic level. You better know some stuff before you waste your time sucking s**tsung's tiny d*ck everyday.
Korean companies make stuff for cheap compared to Japanese companies. Reasons are cheaper labor and no R&D cost. That's why people buy them. But nothing was invented in Korea. It just follows US and Japan and rips off their innovations. Their whole tech business started with Japanese joint ventures.
All those display technologies were invented by Japanese companies. Korean garbage makers just licensed/copied them.
Samsung has a long history of copying Sony, Nokia, and now Apple. Sheer lack of identity screams in their products. Only ignorant fanboys will consider them as leaders - LMFAO. Oh some morons think they make iphone's processors. How can someone think foundries make chips! Well only Samsung's dumb fanboys can do that.
27. mercorp (Posts: 967; Member since: 28 Jan 2012)
You are a biased person.
You see,why the s3 sells so well?
Sony was over complacent with their nxt series.
I will not buy a nxt phone.
Even the htc one is better.
Sony never bothered giving us tegra 3,let alone snapdragon s4.
and why do so many people like your post?
Samsung gave us a hardware-rich phone.Never mind of the plastic used.
Dmn666,you are also a stupid retard.
28. dmn666 (Posts: 194; Member since: 19 Oct 2011)
You're the retard here. Crying aloud without any facts. In your pathetic fanboy world tweaking is innovation. Like I said nothing was ever invented in Korea. Manufacturing at a cheaper rate is their only enge - that's why people buy their garbage made out of reverse engineering.

For me ... the key works are "better efficiency".
Imagine a phone that is still as thin, but now can afford a larger battery because the screen is thinner; hence can now last equal to or longer than before.
Currently, phones are getting thicker, because they need fatter batteries to support the screens and LTE radios.
I do find it interesting though that none of the screen sizes mentioned are the 4 inch variety for the rumors that are currently flying around for the next iPhone. It could be Sharp is not allowed to promote it either though.
The 6.1 inch is interesting too ... especially if the "mini" iPad rumors are true. It is a bit of an odd aspect ratio ... closer to 16:9 than it is 4:3 ... but the clarity would be amazing.

Daniel, lay off the worms and you'll lose that "baited" breath. Waiting with "bated" breath is a good thing though. :)

samsung is making their own flexible displays and they'll be launched this year. so please stop saying watch out samsung, or all the other crap
22. InspectorGadget80 (Posts: 6193; Member since: 26 Mar 2011)
beautiful flexible design. SOMETHING APPLE WOULD NEVER APPRECIATE. That's why we have AMOLED on Samsung phone. AMOLED is better than RETINA display
