Every DIY enthusiast who also happens to be passionate about cars has at least once considered the idea of mounting a tablet into the dashboard of their personal vehicle. Just think about it: with its rich set of multimedia features, a tablet can be a great inexpensive in-car entertainment system, not to mention that such a modification would be über awesome, if done right...

I think they had a vague patent for this back in the 1980's dude. If not they had a "star witness" who remembers all of this because waving Benjamins in front of his face stirs the memory.

It is fascinating of what android can do because it open source. Automaker with dedicated GPS price ridiculous excess of $2k will be obsoleted. Welcome Android and plus more.

I have an iPhone, but really want an Android tablet. Having a powerful, smaller tablet in the dash would be awesome, and I could just use my phone's wifi tether for webs on the tablet.

That is probably the coolest thing I've seen in a long time especially how you can take the tablet back out and put it back in. I had planned to do something like this for a long time except I wanted to have a real computer under the seat that you can make that is really small. with a real intel chip inside it im running windows perferrably windows 8 when it comes out. because the technology to do this has been around for a long time but no 1 has really made a commercial unit yet. The thing I really like is that the touch screen for this tablet is better then any thing out other for the price. They do make pretty nice touchscreens that fit into a double din with no modification needed at all. I think this is better cause you can take the tablet out but I would like to have the power of a full computer with with the ability to connect more to the car and have more integrated electronics and even but very low on list a lte Or atliest 3g radio with a DVD player which a SD card slot would be easier. The mini computer option though since battery power is not a problem can have a Terra bite hard drive. Ivy bridge i7 with DDR memory at about six to eight giga bytes. With all the bells and wissles you can build your own cheaper than you would think. Any ways I really think this is a bad ass mod

So how would you use pandora since its a wifi only tablet? Cool concept but seems like it would be limited.

Some newer vehicles come available with Wifi, and as some other users have pointed out, you can do it the old fashioned way.

I've been wanting to do a carputer for a long time. Didn't have the time to build one myself, and buying one that's out there is waaaaaaay too expensive. Tablets could be the perfect alternative.

I've been waiting for something like this... the touchscreen in my Jetta is roughly the same size as this and I have always thought about how sweet it would be to have the Android OS in my car.

People gets more distracted while talking on the phone or texting while driving. You're making it sound like people want to use their Nexus on their car just to play games or something. Nexus will probably work better than the standard navigation system on your car cept no AM/FM radio. To tell you the truth, having it embedded into the car is actually better than someone driving and operating their tablet on their other hand.

You must use your comment scene; not play while driving and exact equal as back seat driver.

For those who haven't seen this or a CarPC kind of thing done before, you guys need to check out MP3Car.com go to the Forums and start checking out the "Show Off Your Project" forum, including the worklog's if you're interested in seeing how it's all done. Oh and yes I bought most of my equipment for my project from SonicElectronix, they're amazing. For example, I put my Galaxy Tab 2 7" in my dash right after I bought it (When it came out a few months ago) and LOVE IT.
Here's my worklog:http://www.mp3car.com/worklogs
