Second software update for the Samsung Fascinate starts to roll-out
Users of the Samsung Fascinate have already recieved one software update from Verizon in September, and today a 2nd update has started to roll-out. Unfortunately, this isn't an update to Android 2.2 Froyo, as it is still Android 2.1, though the actual update version is i500.DL09. So what's included, you might ask? First off, it updates the pre-installed versions of VCast Video, City ID, VZ Navigator, and Amazon Kindle. But real improvements to the phone include the ability to change the reminder time and alert tone for calendar events, improved the update consistency of the feeds and widgets, music now pauses if you unplug your wired headset or turn off your Bluetooth headset, better GPS performance, increased security by hiding your 3G Mobile Hotspot password while typing, able to open any PDF attachments sent via email, can now use special characters in corporate email passwords, the bottom button's backlight timer is now set to follow the display's backlight time, better refreshing of desktop Widgets, and if the phone is in a locked state it will remain locked even when placed in the desktop dock or car dock.

Let us know what you think of the Samsung Fascinate update in the comment section below.

Samsung sucks. I let Verizon send me a used Droid X and sent back the s. Don't regret it at all. They promised 2.2 before the end of year. Will never buy samsung again. This was mostly to update their own software.

This update sucks. My E911 icon now stays on ALL THE TIME.!!!!!! Even if you turn off all your gps services like VZW location services, Standalone gps services and Google location services. The icon will stay showing on your top bar. WTF ! This is B.S. Now if you would like to use your google web browser to locate stuff around you you will now be transmitting your location to via E911. Please call about this to help it go away... If this is the way Samsung will deliver their phones from now on, I will not buy any more of their products. That means ANY ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS. Huge fan or was!!! By the way my 3G service is weaker now.......

I myself just left a comment about my 3G service being weaker now, and then I read this. Thank god I'm not the only one; I really did not want to have to get a replacement phone!

Update greatly improved GPS location time, from 10 mins to almost instantly, which helps with navigation a lot. The lightening of the button also helps in lower lighting situations.

Benchmarks stayed the same, around 890

Either way this update was needed long ago and is barely catching the Fascinate up to the level of other current Androids.

All the updates above are great. But what we need is a reminder for texts, missed calls, On my samsung rogue, I had a reminder for every 2 mins. 5 mins. and so on. Yes, I downloaded Handcent. It does not work. Very disappointed with that. In hopes that will get resolved. Thank you

Anyone know the REAL scoop on why the 2.2 is still held up for VZW's Galaxy S phone?

Wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I live very close to a tower, and have always had full service on every other Verizon phone. However, since I got this Fascinate, when the data connection is active, it drops down to two bars; and as soon as it is done, back to four. Could this be a software bug or a faulty phone?
