Second quarter could show the first year on year decline in Apple iPad sales

0. phoneArena 25 May 2013, 08:18 posted on

After almost three years of dominating the tablet industry, the Apple iPad has seen its hold on the market start to crack; according to KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, shipments of Apple's slate may show a year-over-year decline for the current quarter. This has never happened before to the iPad and Kuo expects to see a sequential decline in shipments from the first quarter as well...

You mean stolen statusbar and almost every new feature iOS5,6 stolen from Android? Deal with that...... almost Every new feature of iOS is a robbery from Android, just search in Google:
"ios5 rip-off android"
Without quotes

Apple still has a chance with the iPhone brand but the tablets will never have the same domination. While I see Apple releasing a $200 on contract 5" iPhone (within the next 3 years; lol) I don't see Apple wanting to price battle with Android. Google does it better at a cheaper price.

Yup. Just another example of apple REFUSING to listen to what their customers want, and TELLING them what apple feels they need.
Which is fine by me, I am very curious to see just how far their stock can drop.

Ah i see, just like the announcemnt of galaxy s4. The expectations were too high..
The recent concept render of ios7 was really sexy and classy. If any android manufacturer can produce something like that, i will be a hardcore fanboy.. i just cant figure out why these android manufacturers do not want to move away from traditional stock android style.. i mean there are android launchers out there with classy and different look, example the buzz launcher, the homepacks are really classy :)

Yes, I agree with you, the recent concept render of iOS 7 was really sexy and classy.

Android manufacturers don't want to move away from traditional stock Android style is because........Well, you know how to say "traditional stock Android style" right? Android manufacturers don't want to move away because stock Android is Android's own traditional style. That's why Android is the best because it is highly customizable, if you don't like stock Android or the manufacturer's own UI, you can customize it with many launchers.

I hope you will get what I mean. lol My english is not so good..

Yeah and, ironically, a lot more can be done with those so-called "cheap" 7-inch tablets.

It depends on your definition of gimmick. Apple fans call Samsung features gimmicks, but I find many to be extremely useful. Smart stay is brilliant, and so is smart rotation. Their camera apps are awesome. Gesture based features, like direct call and silence when face down are good, too.

I have found that when it comes to features, most fan boys consider any feature the competition has as gimmicky, any feature their device has as innovation at its finest.

How can people hate a manufacturer that knows how to make a smartphone smarter. A manufacturer that doesn't rely on hardware specs bumps. A manufacturer that continuously providing difference in software. A manufacturer that even a Galaxy Music (a low-end with dual front speakers) will have jelly bean.

All of the above is done on the iPad through one app or another. I still don't see anything that the iPad can't do.

I don't hate Samsung at all, in fact if I were to get an android again I would probably go Samsung. I just don't like the mindless bashing of a quality tablet based on fanboism alone.

The main things that keep me with the iPad are
-screen mirroring (wirelessly and seemless for xbmc)
-great selection of optimized apps
-accessories
-smoothest and lag free
-seemless connection with other apple products
-battery life
-quick to charge
-change songs of 3rd party apps using the headset
-apple warranty in store
-software updates right away with the rest of my apple products

The mirroring and changing songs through headset is the biggest thing for me and I have yet to find android versions.

Let me translate your post:

The main things that keep me with the iPad are

-screen mirroring (wirelessly and seemless for xbmc)
I have a friend who tried the same thing and when he had problems he called Apple; they said they were working on a new accessory called iMirror.

-great selection of optimized apps
And, they all cost $10.99 (monthly, each)

-accessories
All new because the old ones from my iPad 2 are all iObsolete.

-smoothest and lag free
(Unlike your wife)

-seemless connection with other apple products
Through a revolutionary Thunderport plus accessories (sold separately)

-battery life
You use it at Starbucks like everyone else and keep it plugged in (that's why it never dies before you get home to plug it back in).

-quick to charge
At Starbucks (only if there's an available outlet because you have to compete with the other iPads and iPhones).

-change songs of 3rd party apps using the headset
OMG, can't break a nail doing it the other way

-apple warranty in store
Because you need to be just as co-dependant as everyone else making an appointment at the Genius Bar.

-software updates right away with the rest of my apple products
Until they discontinue all your other products and you have to buy a brand new everything (again).

The real reason you love it so much is because you've spent thousands on everything you need to make that wittle Pad work the way it should.

you want to know why i choose android over ios every time...here i go (bare in mind im goin out in an hour so sadly this list will have to be shorter than it should be...)
1.apps-apple doesnt have keyboard replecement or launchers does it? (and dont give me that bs that the ipad keyboard is already perfect...)
2. Choice-i can choose between hundreds of brands from the mighty Samsung to the unheard of chinese brands...so if one of them doesnt cut it the others will...
3. customization-the amount of apps, morphs , ROMs etc. you can find on android out numbers ios 10000000 to 1!
4. Flash-yes i can use flash you cant haha
5. Ópen Source- Whatever you say....closed source has nothing on open source!
6.UI- omg they added and extra row of icons that improves the ui sooooo much....is what i would never say.....
7. Support-Apples support is useless compared to support offered by samsung or google
8.Selecting default applications to open files.
9.Making Chrome my default browser.
10.Viewing apps, no matter what folder they're in, in an alphabetical list.
11.Installing different keyboards -- for example, Swype.
12.Viewing windows containing a live feed of appointments or emails (widgets).
13.Using any micro-USB cable to charge my phone, tablet or Kindle.
14.Receiving automatic, unattended updates to the operating system and applications.
15.Making multiple aliases for apps, not simply moving apps around.
16.Using Google Now [Google's search app and personal assistant].
17.Viewing summaries of notification messages. For example, "25 new messages" instead of 25 individual notices.
18.Using NFC [near field communications -- radio technology that enables two devices to wirelessly trade data when they are within close range of each other].
need anymore reasons just contact me ;)

I fully agree with many of those points. In my situation, i have already spent countless hours on xda and outside of it. Changing and moving and poking and flashing etc was getting old for me and i just wanted something that did everything straight from the box.

1-keyboard is pretty much perfect
2-always nice to have choice of different brands
3-dont care for customization as everything is a touch away as it is
4-flash is ok but im finding less and less requirement for it on a tablet. still nice to have i guess
5-im definitely a pc guy so i get what youre saying there but again, its nice having one rock solid OS-both have their benefits
6-UI is a matter of choice
7-apples support is the best bar none
8-default apps i have no argument for. Hoping they update that (probably not though)
9-believe it or not chrome was very laggy when i had the nexus 4. Safari is a great browser too
10-i can sort apps as i choose
11-again, really think apple pretty much nailed it with the keyboard.
12-i have an icon i can just tap on.
13-i do miss having that but $5 at the local flea market gets me a new cable
14-auto updates are in IOS
15-not sure what you mean there.
16-Apple has google now. too much drain for me
17-i have an icon for that.
18-nfc has yet to be important for me as i have not seen it yet.

Honestly, i get what youre saying and understand your viewpoints but again, its all there on apple in a simpler fashion which is what i want at this point. It is pretty damn boring though.

You put all that thought into that creative, and utterly useless post. If that post was designed to persuade him to ditch his iPad, you failed. If that post was designed to make him dislike the iPad, you failed. If that post was designed simply to insult the iPad and turn people away from it, you failed. The iPads sales have gotten smaller due to the saturation of good tablets on the market, combined, with those waiting for the next iPad like myself. I'm still using my iPad 3... When the iPad launched it had complete market share obviously, however all the android and windows tablets put together aren't outselling the iPad... They're simply cutting into its market share like they should. The larger iPads, and the mini are out selling their counterparts. The iPad has like 46-50% and the others make up the rest. My numbers might be off a little, but name one non iPad that has outsold the iPad for that model year, and not just for 30 days or a quarter, but for the year. It's easy to come on PA, and insult people for their choice of the iPad...funny thing is, droiders praise choice but only when that choice is android. The iPad has its quirks just like android windows, and BB tablets, yet it consistently outsells them, and outperforms them where it counts most...customer satisfaction rate, and globally being catered to. Automakers, hotels, factories, airlines, hospitals, schools, colleges, the NFL, NBA, and NASA use the iPad yet you claim it sucks. It's light weight, portable, fast, intuitive, gets steady updates, is catered to by tons OS businesses, has the highest customer satisfaction rate, and the smallest return rate, great battery life, a friggin gazillion iPad optimized apps, and extremely high resale value...tell me how that sucks. Oh I know specs lol no quad core lmao...news flash the people who drive iPad sales, you know the ones called the mainstream consumer, you know the ones that number in the hundreds of millions unlike we techies. Yeah them, they don't care about specs, they care about performance...the iPad performs the best, and sells the most, and is returned the least. Why do you think MS is attacking the iPad in its ads and not android? Attack the top dog not the also rans.
