0. phoneArena 29 Dec 2012, 15:59 posted on
The second batch of Nokia Lumia 920 models went on sale at the Nokia Store in Shanghai and a long line snaked its way around the store while the yellow version sold out in just twenty minutes; the Nokia Lumia 920 could end up having spectacular sales numbers in China since the Nokia Lumia 920T variant will be sold to customers of the world's largest carrier, China Mobile...

Surely Lumia 920 will definitely sell out everywhere. Its a great piece of art..
19. darac (Posts: 2156; Member since: 17 Oct 2011)
It looks like a lady box that was shaped with an axe.
I find it strikingly boring honestly.
Just the other day me and my friend were having a drink in a cafe and with our devices reflecting the lights on the table, I was kind of shocked at just how much better the glaring, sleek, subtle, color changing curves on my Galaxy S3 look than the dim, bulky exterior of his L920
30. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
mate your such a fanboy, you talk as if the s3 is a design masterpiece. its really not design isnt where samsung excel and your whole like tribute to it there isnt true .
''glaring, sleek, subtle, color changing curves on my Galaxy S3''
its glossy mate, like one of those hard candys you act like its been sculpted to the last detail ...please lmao
44. darac (Posts: 2156; Member since: 17 Oct 2011)
"Like it's been sculpted to the last detail".. Lol
The huge irony of your comment is that it EXACTLY IS SCULPTED TO THE LAST DETAIL
..and it is gorgeous.
Besides, I was talking about the front part in my comment, the back is covered anyway.
I have two cases for it - one thin, elegant matte case that I use mostly, and one thick hard case for some outdoor activities.
I'll post photos if you don't believe :p
48. Leo_MC (Posts: 717; Member since: 02 Dec 2011)
Well, S3 inside a case is no longer "glaring, sleek, subtle, color changing curves" but rather mate and obviouse; on the other hand Nokia doesn't seem to need a case so it's design can shine.
50. darac (Posts: 2156; Member since: 17 Oct 2011)
Wow, what an observation.
Here's my phone in a thin black matte case
58. Dastrix (unregistered)
dat plastic.. it looks hideous :D
60. Leo_MC (Posts: 717; Member since: 02 Dec 2011)
That is just a case with a phone inside (a phone whose "glaring, sleek, subtle, color changing curves" can't be seen).
Sorry, mate, if I don't share your enthusiasm in [lack of] artistic "dresses" for gadgets; it's nature's fault because she made us different ;).
36. Veigald (Posts: 268; Member since: 13 Jan 2012)
Sounds like you're envious of your friend's phone... it's alright, you should be.
46. darac (Posts: 2156; Member since: 17 Oct 2011)
Sure buddy.. makes sense for he's actually my best friend who always had a thing for Nokia.
He likes android but just loves Nokia more. But he is NOT a fanboy.
It's me who he asked for a final opinion about the phone, before making a decision on the purchase.
I explained all the advantages and shortcomings, especially regarding the OS, and then said go for it if you're okay with that.
So far, he is. It's a good phone.
But trust me.. I would never trade it for mine

56. TROLL (banned) (Posts: 4851; Member since: 13 Apr 2012)
True that chunky 12mm thickness does look ugly, Nokia were never know as slim looking phones, more into connecting people, unlike Android and iOs excels in both design and highend specs™®©
33. MeoCao (unregistered)
920 is a work of art, no doubt despite the poor OS.
Hopefully Nokia makes SailFish version of L920.
40. eisenbricher (Posts: 973; Member since: 09 Aug 2012)
Man, wp8 isn't a poor OS. It may be called unpolished. Not poor. WP7 was. 7.5 was a little advancement and 8 is still better.
And what do we know about sailfish? Does it have its own ecosystem? About android compatibility there's no official word out. And I'm sure android fans will hate it because they'll think about the rumored compatibility as 'Theft'
45. MeoCao (unregistered)
WP8 file is very big and take a lot of precious memory, it has much less features than Android, customizability is very limited, live tiles are very annoyingly distracting...
I know Saifish is nothing w/o support of big players but with Nokia things will be different. Nokia has a ecosystem of its own, and porting an app from Android to Sailfish is very easy.
Android fans are unhappy about Sailfish? maybe some but I don't think it matters.
here's a vid about Sailfish.

Good for nokia good for windows, nokia lumia stands out of the rest of windows 8 phones.
4. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
Agree, if I had to choose an Windows Phone device, I would choose Nokia Lumia 920.
42. neutralguy (Posts: 1152; Member since: 30 Apr 2012)
nokia lumia 920 for windows phone, in a heart beat.
3. lumia920 (Posts: 112; Member since: 27 Nov 2012)
it was obvious... one thing every one should remember that there is a whole world outside the america's locked one, you know what i mean... lumia920 will hit every where because it is about quality...
17. ckoch125 (Posts: 191; Member since: 29 Oct 2012)
well if Nokia wouldn't have made it exclusive to at&t I bet they could have sold a ton more. But hey I mean carrier exclusives work so well /s
34. AnTuTu (Posts: 1429; Member since: 14 Oct 2012)
Mate I do like Lumia 920 it is a good piece of technology. But the way you are chanting its name in this article doesn't make any sense.
And moreover when you say Google and Samsung are shocked or something like that, please refer to S3, Note2 and Google's own Nexus line. They can answer your each and every question.
5. lumia920 (Posts: 112; Member since: 27 Nov 2012)
samsung and google may shocked..... a very bad sign for them... it is the rise of the king...
7. lumia920 (Posts: 112; Member since: 27 Nov 2012)
there is not any single phone in android squad to match lumia 920 build quality... they are made of cheap plastic....
8. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
I agree that Nokia Lumia has good build quality but Nokia Lumia 920 is also made frome the same plastic as HTC One X or Samsung Galaxy S III or almost any other Android based device...
14. microsoftnokiawin (Posts: 1154; Member since: 30 Mar 2012)
accept that the plastic and gorilla glass is thicker than any other android phone thus making it better
22. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
As I have said before I agree that Nokia Lumia 920 is strong build device and I agree that it is more durable than many other phones but plastic is the same Polycarbonate.
Now talking about thicknes Nokia Lumia 920 has Corning Gorilla Glass 2 which is actually 20% thinner than older Corning Gorilla Glass. Also both Nokia Lumia 920 and Samsung Galaxy S III use the same Corning Gorilla Glass 2.
And talking about body plastic thicknes, do you realize that body is not at the same thickness entirely it has different thicknes in different areas and that's mean that in some areas Samsung Galaxy S III may have even thicker body than Nokia Lumia 920 and vice versa in some areas Nokia Lumia 920 body may be thicker than Samsung Galaxy S III.
So question for you, how did you determined that Nokia Lumia 920 has thicker plastic, did you have made any measurements or what if so then maybe you would like to skare your results with us or maybe there is any reliable source which could prove your words about thicknes? Or maybe it is only your baseless and concocted a statement???
20. lumia920 (Posts: 112; Member since: 27 Nov 2012)
using same material does not mean both are equal. e.g you can see so many torture tests of 920 vs s3 and you will find out that lumia survives well while both of the phones uses the same gorilla glass 2..now what? similar is the case with polcarbonate.. nokia pioneered polycarbonate..
23. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
"using same material does not mean both are equal"
Could you show me please where did I say that same material means the same build quality???
Could you show me please where did I say that Samsung Galaxy S III is stronger build than Nokia 920???
I was exactly talking about this your statement:
"they are made of cheap plastic..."
I just told that Nokia Lumia 920 body is also build from Polycarbonate as Samsung Galaxy S III or HTC One X or many other phones.
31. ChiX017 (Posts: 308; Member since: 09 Nov 2011)
We are talking Design not just build quality
32. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
Where do you see word "Design" in comment #7 ?
9. Googlethis (Posts: 179; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
droid razr, droid razr maxx, droid razr hd, droid razr maxx hd I believe have metal frames and Kevlar backing thats not cheap . not sure what the dna is made of but i believe it is some soft metal with rubberized coating. droid x and x2 have metal on them. plastic so not all android phones are cheap plastic and the lumia is made of plastic as well. i believe it has somthing to do with the desighn and how it takes the impact.
18. darac (Posts: 2156; Member since: 17 Oct 2011)
Ugh, nothing beats a Nokia fanboy..
You obviously never held Xperia Acro S or Ion, or Motorola RAZR MAXX HD or Defy plus, or Casio G etc etc
26. lumia920 (Posts: 112; Member since: 27 Nov 2012)
ok, put your favourite droid phone against 920. and do some research or test it your self if you can, i bet at last you will conclude that 920>any droid smartphone. when you talk about build quality then nokia dominates simply and you should know that. sweet brother it is not about nokia fanboy it is about nokia. nokia=quality.
28. jroc74 (Posts: 5595; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
You do realize the Kevlar back is scratch resistant? And the RAZR family have a water resistant coating?
If you dont consider that quality and think thats cheap...I dont know what to say.
39. amansingal14 (Posts: 307; Member since: 08 Sep 2012)
Well, not a nokia fanboy definately (using Sam G Note 2), but nokia has all three, scratch resistant back, scratch resistant front, and scratch resistant camera lens.
41. jroc74 (Posts: 5595; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Seeing as the RAZR family uses Gorilla Glass also, like most Android phones.....they have the front covered too. Dont really know about the lense.
Remember...I was responding to the guy saying that basically no Android phone has good build quality and are cheap quailty.
43. jroc74 (Posts: 5595; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
And I just seeen some clips of the Lumia 920, guy talking about micro scratches. ....the Kevlar doesnt have any micro scratches....you rub the scratch away if its there and its gone. Seen some other forums about scratches for the 920.....same thing.
In this case...I would pick Kevlar over polycarbonate for scratch resistance. I can make scratches in the Kevlar and the scratch rubs away entirely. The softness of the Kevlar probably helps. Again....just responding to the guy saying Android phones are cheap plastic and build quality cant match the 920.

Well seems like the nokia fan base is full of ignorants. Go on youtube and search for videos about XPERIA Go, Samsung Rugby and Motorola Defy. All running android.. =]
57. TROLL (banned) (Posts: 4851; Member since: 13 Apr 2012)
More like the other way round, Nokia will never ever be on par with Android or iOs™®©
62. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
your like a bad rash, always irritating and hideous to look at (your comment are anyway)
so one sided yet look none of the android do gooders saying a word. your just like an apple troll yet your accepted by those that bitch about trolling.
see i was gonna just ignore you fanboy comments but thought it be more fun to give you abit of what you do to others and watch your diverting replys that never answer whats put to you.
nokia will never be on par with android or iOS. well except for the fact it already is with wp8. the general user has all the need features and more. the apps are growing and the 920 has certain key selling points that set it out from others......android phones are starting to get washed in with the crowd. hoping sony will deliver as it looks a beast. iOS well thats become stale, some still like it thats fine but times eroded its appeal.
try to reply with sense lmao
10. lumia920 (Posts: 112; Member since: 27 Nov 2012)
don't talk about s3, it is cheapest of all. htc yes it has good quality but overall still inferior to lumia920.. you may think that i am biased toward nokia, but i am not. i am simply impressed. the second and the final thing is that there is nokia behind "lumia" which means quality and no compromise.
12. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
In your comment #7 you say that:
"they are made of cheap plastic..."
I agree that Nokia Lumia has good build quality but Nokia Lumia 920 is also made frome the same Polycarbonate as HTC One X or Samsung Galaxy S III so your statement about "cheap plastic" is weightless...
38. MeoCao (unregistered)
It's a tradeoff, SS make the battery replaceable and less rigid structure.
920 also has heavier body and smaller screen.
I think SS design is better, but I know a lot of people would choose 920 with JB inside.
15. Googlethis (Posts: 179; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
My Galaxy s3 Survived most of my torcher tests except being ran over its the only one that it failed so even if you believe its made of cheap plastic from my personal experience it can take a beating.
dropping on hardwood flooring from 4 feet
dropping from head hight so about 6 feet on to hardwood flooring
Child test (letting a 4 year old play with it for an hour)
being ran over with a weel chair (no one in it)
being ran over with a car is ware it failed.
Keep in mind the phone was not working before the testing due to unknown reasons.
16. Googlethis (Posts: 179; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
over all the lumia is a great phone can't wait to get a second one to torcher test so far the only phone i got to survive all my tests is the Casio Commando.
24. SleepingOz (unregistered)
"you may think that i am biased toward nokia"
Hahah, who are you fooling, dude?
You had a previous account, Lumia900, that was muted several times for excessive trolling.
27. lumia920 (Posts: 112; Member since: 27 Nov 2012)
i swear it is my first account. i was the silent reader of gsmarena and phonearena before. you are talking about that you clearly don't know about.. and that is so bad..
61. b1acktiger (Posts: 219; Member since: 19 May 2012)
Lumia 920 ? Nothing new, its just a stretched version of Lumia 800. Lumia 800 were a good attempt by Nokia. Got hands on 920. I would say the glossy finish and the weight ruined. In design HTC Windows Phone 8X wins ahead of 920 and in over all 920.
13. ckoch125 (Posts: 191; Member since: 29 Oct 2012)
It will be interesting to find out how many they actually had. Plus this can turn into a bad thing if people have to wait a long time for the device to be back in stock it can lead them to get a different phone.
21. johnh3 (Posts: 8; Member since: 23 Aug 2012)
I suppose it was same when the first iPhone was released to. Many just was forced to wait for it. That happend when a smartphone is "hot" so to speak.
Soon Samsung will release many more Windows Phone 8 also.
25. lumia920 (Posts: 112; Member since: 27 Nov 2012)
dear 920 is not hitting just because of wp8, actually it defines another category of its own. a unique camera, unique touch, fluidity, better design, and much much more... (don't say it is heavy, actually it isn't, secondly you wouldn't have to protect it with heavy casings like that for iphones)
29. jroc74 (Posts: 5595; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
I will give you unique camera and touch. But all WP phones are fluid. Thats not unique to Nokia WP phones. I tested a WP against Android and against iOS last year. I am an Androud user, its my favorite phone, mobile OS right now but I can give credit where its due. Design is very debatable. I think Nokia WP phones dont look all that good.

"Recent statistics showed that Android owned more than 90% of the Chinese market in Q3, a number that could come down a little based on the demand in the country for the Nokia Lumia 920."
Not to be one of "those" people, but when mentioning phones and lines waiting to buy said phone in an article, it seems amiss not to mention that the brand of phones most famous for creating lines didn't have the same splash as usual when it was opened up to be sold on more carriers in China...
47. erdpov (Posts: 67; Member since: 07 Dec 2012)
I have tried it in a shop. It's not as fluid as it they say. This phone is good, but not as good
as a lot of people want to think of it. The overrated phone.
49. tashreef (Posts: 476; Member since: 24 Nov 2012)
i don't understand this fandroids are just giving thumbs down to the comments which gives better rating to nokia lumia 920 ........even though they are not saying any thing about android or iOS....
