Seagate announces 12GB hard drive for cellphones

Seagate Technology, manufacturer of Consumer Electronics (CE) hard drives, has announced its new ST1.3 Series hard drive for mobile phone at the 3GSM World Congress. The new 1-inch 12GB hard drive offers 50% more storage capacity than the company's current highest capacity 1-inch drive, which is due to the perpendicular recording technology, the company used. Moreover, the ST1.3 Series drive is physically smaller, consumes less power and has higher operational shock resistance.  Its smaller size allows it to fit in most of the current clamshell and candy-bar designed mobile handsets. The new Seagate's hard drive is expected to be launched in the third quarter of 2006.
