0. phoneArena 04 Feb 2014, 08:20 posted on
Microsoft didn't go for the surprise, and just announced that its new CEO is a promotion from within. Effective as of this very moment, Satya Nadella becomes the Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors. Nadella previously held the position of Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group, and will replace the outgoing flamboyant co-founder of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer, taking the reign in a crucial for the company moment...

Good for him. I am looking forward to what he brings to the table.

I'm liking forward to what he clears off the table (Windows Phone 8, Windows 8, XBOX One).
21. jellmoo (Posts: 643; Member since: 31 Oct 2011)
Why would he clear off items that Microsoft has invested *TONS* of money into already, with one of the three being financially successful, and another of the three having just been released, to seemingly great numbers?
Given that his background isn't in consumer products, I can't imagine he would make any snap decisions on items he has limited experience with.

Don't feed this pathetic troll.. He wants attention
31. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3485; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
Who cares.. We have a lot of progress to look forward to coming out of MS the next few years.. This is great news for WP, and all MS products, and services, which ate already great...

None of them has made any real money. Which one are you talking about again?
29. NokiaFTW (Posts: 1815; Member since: 24 Oct 2012)
Which is BTW the best selling gaming console in the US.
32. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3485; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
Haters gonna always hate...
A lot of WP hatters just gain more insecurity, and more fear, today... So, expect a heightened amount of pathetic, immature, hatred for a long time... Just write down the haters you see on every WP related article and you'll quickly start to see a pathetic pattern...
40. corporateJP (Posts: 1548; Member since: 28 Nov 2009)
About the same pattern as somebody else madhatting about Windows this-and-that all over this site.
You're so far in, even the Nokia fans on the boards here distance themselves from you.
Man, you are a hypocrite.
45. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3485; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
All over the site.. Where are you from? I'm not sure what I'm communicating with...
I only talk about WP/ MS/ and Nokia topics on those related articles... And, only mention them on other articles if they are relevant...
Here's what you should do.. If you don't want to hear about MS related things, or you want to limit how much you hear, then quit upsetting yourself buy clicking on more MS, Nokia, Lumia, WP articles than you do Android related articles..
Here's a question for you.. Do you comment on more MS, WP, Lumia, and Nokia related articles than you do Android, or iOS articles?
46. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3485; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
Oh, yeah,, and I guess people liking my comment's means that they are distancing themselves from me...
Also, why do say Nokia fans distance themselves from me, as though that's supposed to mean something... I'm a huge WP fan first, then a Nokia fan.. Not everyone needs people by their side like followers like you.. I can stand on my own, and make decisions myself.....
Just because people like you rely on the popularity of Android, or iOS, to make them feel good about themselves doesn't mean everyone else does... That's your issue... And, anyone who hates to hear about MS, but seeks out information, and discussion about MS everyday, obviously has a few nuts loose..

I am sure XBOX is doing great. I myself own XBOX 360. But I would like you to realize US is not world, it is only part of world. Here all games played between individual states are termed as World Cup. So, you need to look at bigger arena to call something best selling.
2. NokiaFTW (Posts: 1815; Member since: 24 Oct 2012)
Looking forward to what you bring to the table. :D

I think Microsoft made a good choice Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella seems to me to be Pragmatic , likes to learn new things and knows Mobile devices and the cloud is an area Microsoft must make improvements in. If it true He will seek Bill Gates Tech Savvy them Microsoft will make some innovated devices. EX CEO Ballmer was a Business oriented CEO. He did a great Job expanding and keeping Microsoft's money making "Enterprise"
business going so microsoft could have the cash to do new things. I wish Ballmer a happy life and retirement. he'ill probably be on Microsoft's board of directors.
16. pookiewood (Posts: 562; Member since: 05 Mar 2012)
Great post. I've seen nothing but bashing of Ballmer. Ballmer LOVED the company and was super passionate about it. This rubs some people the wrong way. Money talks! He kept earning quarter after quarter but people fail to mention this. They just call him names because they don't have anything really bash him on. He's be mostly successful.
On to new business. Welcome Satya!!
19. jellmoo (Posts: 643; Member since: 31 Oct 2011)
I don't think anyone would question Ballmer's enthusiasm and drive for Microsoft. The dude was and remains very passionate. He was also an excellent #2 at the company, and I think that's where his skillset was. Not everyone is cut out to be an amazing CEO, and it remains to be seen whether or not Nadell has it. I certainly hope so.

Proud to see another Indian ruling a tech giant!!best wishes!
33. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3485; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
Who cares if he's Indian?
I know you might be Indian, but the way it sounds when people say stuff like that... Kinda self-righteous IMO...
I'm black, and you would never hear me say something like that.
37. NokiaFTW (Posts: 1815; Member since: 24 Oct 2012)
People in India are proud of him. It's not self-righteous, as we look up to him as an inspiration because many aspiring software engineers here dream of working at a tech giant in the US.
38. asingha94 (Posts: 288; Member since: 08 Apr 2012)
Dude!India is a country & it is a thing to be proud of as I am an Indian...but you are comparing skin color with country. This is so kiddo logic.you can see black & white people in same country as I am white & living in India..So keep your racism issue out of the book as this is a tech site & take it in a simple way...If the guy would not be an Indian I would also be happy if he is eligible enough...
6. PBXtech (Posts: 968; Member since: 21 Oct 2013)
I like this guy, seems very humble and creative. Looking forward to what MS brings to the table this year and next.
7. ihavenoname (Posts: 1307; Member since: 18 Aug 2013)
Yay! No more Ballmer or Elop. Now I can actually watch M$ keynotes. Best of luck, Satya.

Would be better if they also can get rid of tiles & do a proper use of Nokia!! :P
12. NokiaFTW (Posts: 1815; Member since: 24 Oct 2012)
What? Why would they get rid of the tiles? It looks great and is imitated by every other OS around.
20. asingha94 (Posts: 288; Member since: 08 Apr 2012)
I agree it is not that bad.But if you see 24*7 same kind of tiled home screen it really gets boring.I feel that. Because I own a windows phone device myself. In my view It needs more customization or option to add another home screen!!
26. NokiaFTW (Posts: 1815; Member since: 24 Oct 2012)
Its been 8 months since I bought my first WP, and just can't get enough of the live tiles. I'm never bored of it. Don't know what you're talking about.
35. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3485; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
If your home screen is boring then that's your fault...
WP has the most customizable, and active, home screen on the market.
42. elitewolverine (Posts: 1282; Member since: 28 Oct 2013)
Boring? What would you like them to bring, static icons? Magazine UX that has mimicked live tiles updates...
I agree, that if your home screen is boring, it is no boring than looking at a static background picture and staring at icons that do nothing.
Personally love live tiles. I can see customization perhaps customer tile launchers, but you can technically do that now if your code happy.
There is also apps out there that change tiles looks as well for certain functions, basically a skin. Search it in the store.
23. corporateJP (Posts: 1548; Member since: 28 Nov 2009)
The tiles, I like.
However, the "do a proper use of Nokia" thing, I agree with.
10. cezarepc (Posts: 548; Member since: 23 Nov 2012)
Congrats to the guy. Hopefully he learned from Ballmer's arrogance.
14. kaikuheadhunterz (Posts: 690; Member since: 18 Jul 2013)
Still shocked by the sudden announcement, even when I literally know nothing about this guy
17. xoxoGeorges (Posts: 194; Member since: 11 Jul 2013)
If he's smart enough he'd keep the Nokia brand
18. jellmoo (Posts: 643; Member since: 31 Oct 2011)
He can't even if he wants to. The terms of the deal state exactly how long it can be used.
24. corporateJP (Posts: 1548; Member since: 28 Nov 2009)
The deal itself is still an oddity.
The Lumia and Ashas lines will lose Nokia branding, but Microsoft can produce basic phones and brand them "Nokia" for the next ten years.
It would be interesting to see if Nokia starts making smart phones again after the no-compete agreement, only to see two different companies making phones that say "Nokia" on them, trusting MS will make basic devices at that point in time and Nokia wants to go back into the handset business.
36. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3485; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
You hate MS...
Why should anyone care about your opinion when you can get it through in a mature way?
39. corporateJP (Posts: 1548; Member since: 28 Nov 2009)
You see Microsoft with rose-colored glasses.
I lost respect for you the day you insinuated Nokia would be nothing without Microsoft and Elop. You are nothing more then the people you try to mount here, a fanboy and a troll.
Get on with your day, fam. Nobody here takes you seriously.
49. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3485; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
Not that I think I should have to explain anything to you, and it's really just a waist of my time, but I always said that Nokia needs MS just as much as MS needs Nokia....
But, with selective hearing, and questionable reading comprehension skills, I can see how certain people can get confused......
That's just to bad for you...
43. elitewolverine (Posts: 1282; Member since: 28 Oct 2013)
They may or may not make smartphones. Personally they might, but will people remember them if they do.
The current youth does not know Nokia like the old youth. It would have to be a resurgence that not even droid could help with, just ask LG, HTC and other makers trying to take on Samsung and the very clouded droid market.
And so i dont have to post again, to be honest Nokia might be nothing without MS at this point, in terms of Smartphones. They were well behind the Droid scene and Samsung was taking off. People tend to think, just go android and you will make it, it would not be that simple.

another day and yet another Indian grabbing top position , best wishes!!
