Santa calls the Samsung Galaxy Gear a miracle in new ad

0. phoneArena 11 Dec 2013, 00:11 posted on

Santa Claus is hosting his "Big Christmas Secret 2013" event. The place is packed with elves while the big guy reveals the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch that is on his wrist. Santa points out all the things that a regular watch can't do, like make a phone call, tell you when you've walked away from your phone, and take a picture...

I certainly wouldn't go that far, but the Galaxy Gear has proven to be an excellent Galaxy Note 3 companion for me, and I've yet to demo it (oft requested) for anyone who wasn't impressed at how cool/functional it really is.

The latest updates really went a long way towards delivering on the what a good smarwatch should be.

Agreed. With the recent gear update, i can pick and choose which app notification alert is shown on gear display. Furthermore the watch styler let me design my own watch face to exactly how i want it to be.

Perfect meet my need.

I do wish I get pay by Samsung but no.

In asia, Samsung is popular. I went into a meeting or site survey all my peers are carrying a Samsung. I joke with them is this a Samsung Fan Club meeting to lighten the mood. We all laugh.

Good try, c.hack :)

It's the best smartwatch I've seen up to this point. So yeah, it's pretty miraculous.

Maybe it's because we haven't seen many smartwatches so far? Sony's version is more useable.

It may be more usable to some, but the Gear packs more features (oh well, at least from what I know). I agree that there are still not many smartwatches so far. I want to see more smartwatches with features like the Galaxy Gear and beyond.

We have to start somewhere... Samsung is doing what's necessary for new type of product, finding it's feet. There's no Note 2 without the Note, if you know what I mean.

Wrong! I have both gear and sony smart watch. Sony smart watch can't run its apps without bluetooth connection to the phone. Gear can run its apps without bluetooth connection to phone.

Gear is more useful to me because i gym with my phone in the locker. Gear could run the fitness apps to record my performance. Sony smart watch just display time and nothing else.

True. I bought my gear together with my Note 3. Gear can also pair with Note 10.1 2014 Edition LTE out of the box.

I getting that as well to replace my Galaxy Tab 7.7.

The price is similar to what a normal watch would be, so for me, I always thought they were priced really cheaply smh

Why would you have a problem paying $300 for a smart watch when you have no problem paying $200 for a watch with two moving arms and a ticking sound?

U dont need to charge the 2 moving arms watch daily and there are alot cheaper then $200 ticking sounds watches. -.-

For a high precision watch that's durable and looks good I will easily pay more than $300 for a watch.

At least with that watch it will be guaranteed to last me a very long time and I won't have to charge it everyday. I personally think it's over priced just like the calculator and tv remote watches were when they came out.

There has to be a happy medium between price, functionality and convenience that Samsung does not have with this product or at least this version.

Most of expensive watches(which are mechanical) are less precise than the quatz cheap ones.

And if you don't use it every day you will have to "recharge it"

Watches(tissot, hamilton and other swiss) are like iphones, people buy it because it looks nice and give you status, nothing more.

Since when are cheap watches more precise? Please back this up because every bit of evidence I have ever read on watches and crystals proves you wrong. The preciseness of the gears, build quality and crystal all play a part. The quartz used in cheap watches are also cheap.

If that's the case then high precision GPS equipment for the TELECOM industry should get replaced with a Casio.

Yes expensive watches are a status symbol as much as they are fashion accessories but let's compare the Galaxy Gear to a high end Movado when it comes to that. That's like showing off your new rims to a guy driving a ferrari. I don't care how much "they spinnin" you ain't winning that competition.

I'm not talking about chinese cheap ones, what I´m saying is that every single expensive watch is mechanical and a mechanical watch will never be as precise as a GOOD quartz watch(casio, timex...) which is wayyyy cheaper than they big swiss brothers and just don´t forget to charge it every day or you will have to set the time everytime you use it(thats why my auto ones just show the time, not date or something else)

Just google it and you will see
http://www.chronocentric.com/watches/accuracy.shtml

I'm not comparing GG with a regular watch because their market are very different. As you said, a patek philippe is a fashion article the last thing it is used for is to know the time.

Like a friend of mine have said, a watch is a man's jewel.

You can get a regular watch thats as bulky and ugly for $5. For $200 you get a good looking quality watch that runs for several years on one battery or kinetics.

I love my 16GB iPod Nano on a wrist strap. 2,000 songs and tells the time. The only thing I don't like about it is that people keep asking me on a daily basis if it's the Samsung smart watch.... And I swear it's the same idiots at work that keep asking... they must know it annoys me.

I'm going to have to wait for 2nd or maybe even 3rd generation smartwatches to come out before I even consider buying one.

Sony made the smartwatch first and they launched second version of it still galaxy gear a miracle?
And c'mon guys would you really click pictures from your watch then why have you bought a galaxy note 3 with 13 MP camera..smartwatch can be bundled with many phones..via nfc or bluetooth depending on its version..a spy camera is available for 10$ max to max. Smartwatch is quiet cheaper than the galaxy gear and as usual you get sony's excellent build quality..and waterproofing
