SanDisk says it produced some bad 32GB and 64GB microSD cards
0. phoneArena posted on 18 Mar 2013, 12:41
Certain Samsung Galaxy S III users have had problems with using their SanDisk microSD cards with their devices unable to read the card; while Samsung's initial response via a forum responder was to say that no one should trust third party information found on a forum, SanDisk admitted to the problem, has repaired the manufacturing process and will replace the faulty cards...

Soo... this is a recall? The note says about class 10 microSD cards, but what about class 4 32GB? Are affected too?

How will you know what class of sandisk memory card you have bought? Is it written on the package?

That was one hell of a mediocre answer by the samsung rep, but at least he didn't tell the customer he was "holding it wrong".
7. rusticguy posted on 18 Mar 2013, 13:37 0
So is the current issue with XZ reported to be dying recently related to this?

i had a 32gb micro sd that every once in a while wouldnt let me get into my gallery because one picture was corrupt. I deleted the file and i was able to access my gallery again. then two months later the card wasnt recognized by my 16gb s3. i tried to load it on my computer to transfer some of the files and it didnt even work in my computer. Definitely contacting sandisk

I don't blame the customer service rep. "I read it online" is a mantra heard daily and many cannot discern fact versus speculation.

I was having problems with my sd card around xmas time last year but it seems to have sorted itself out. Havent had any unmount or error messages for about 2 months now...

Bought a 32GB card before Christmas and worked great on my DROID RAZR M. Bought a Note 2 about a month ago, worked for a while then it just died. I wouldn't read on my computer or any other phone.
In the process of getting a replacement.

Nice way to build a strawman argument against Samsung. Take an out-of-context "quote" from one side of an alleged conversation with a rep, and blame them for a problem that has nothing to do with them. A customer complaining about an issue with his memory card, and the rep saying that he shouldn't believe everything he reads on the internet is a complete non sequitur. If this conversation even took place, there's a lot missing here. Is there a full transcript of the conversation? Or is the author of this "article" just pissing in the wind? This article should be about the possibility of having a bad micro SD card, yet the author has devote half his "article" to get his digs in against Samsung, which has zero responsibility in this matter.
I don't know Adam F. from shinola, but it's clear that either he has some unjournalistic biases against a certain company(ies), or he's completely clueless. Check your sources, cite your sources, qualify the statements, provide context, and remain objective before you spew a bunch of ignorant drivel all over a website that some people, despite certain articles, trust and respect for their tech news.

Okay then, it wasn't just me that got that feeling.
13. roscuthiii posted on 18 Mar 2013, 15:33 1
Sheesh. Samsung and it's products are mentioned so much in this article you'd almost think the writer was attempting to associate Samsung with the SD card problem in the readers' minds here instead of SanDisk.

got a 32g class 4 memory card for my trip back in august of 2012 and the 2 week trip i had taken over a hundred photos of everywhere i went in NY from Mahattan, to Syracuse, Buffalo, Niagra falls, Saratoga. The last day of my trip my phone said it couldn't read my card and so I took it out and put it back in and it still didn't read it. Then when i arrived at the airport it said it could read the card, but all my photos were gone. EVERY SINGLE ONE!!!! I tried those recovery things online, but none of them work. Does anyone know how i could recover those photos or if it is even possible???
16. regbone posted on 18 Mar 2013, 16:37 0
by the way i don't feel better about getting it off my chest. it brings back the hurt i felt because of all the wedding pics i had from my trip as well.... i haven't used the sd card since just because i didn't want a repeat of what happend.

I have a 32Gb Class 10 SanDisk micro SD card and mine got corrupted and I lost EVERYTHING. I was furious. I kept all my music, photos, videos, backups, all on that SD card. Some pictures will also randomly become corrupted. I purchased it from SanDisk because I trusted their quality and I will not make the same mistake again.

I've had a class 10 Samsung 32GB card start mounting and dismounting till it died... pissed me off. Went it and grabbed a 64 gig and I sure add he'll hope it doesn't act up, it hasn't yet.
*knocks on wood.

Yea I heard about this when I was buying my 64gb ultra. I read A LOT of negative comments about cards dying in less than a few months. Do you have a serial # range of some sort so we can tell which ones might be affected?
21. joey_sfb posted on 18 Mar 2013, 19:15 0
I do encounter problem with one sd card i got from the grey market. Intermittent reading/write error. Format the card and problem still persist.
From then on, i only buy SD Card from authorise dealer which normally cost a bit more.
So far no problem from authorise dealer purchased SD Card. I use it with my pocket camera and my cell phone.

This happened with my Samsung GS3 & SanDisk 32 GB card. SanDisk was great about replacing the card quickly. Seemed like a good company to deal with.

I don't know 64GB is also effected. I should be worried.

Yep my class 4 32 GB San Disk will not show up in my Maxx HD from time to time. A while back it kept remounting. I had to pull the data off. Reformat and put the data back on. Been ok for now.

I had a Samsung galaxy express that wouldnt read my card for a while.one of my folders got erased and erased my 3,000 songs off my class 4 32 gig sandisk card no where to be found. Now my brand new 16 gig s III unmounted my SD card and will not mount it again. Last time I had to remove everything off my card and reformat to the phone. This is makeing me very upset due to I don't have time to mess with my phone all the time. Ill be contacting sandisk for a new one!

Purchased SGS4 in May. Bought a 64 Gb SanDisk Ultra micro SD card. Data kept dissapearing when rebooting the phone. Contacted SanDisk. They sent me a replacement card. Used it for 2 days... after a reboot got the same message "Damaged SD card" with all videos and photos gone. Wrote an email to SanDisk on June the 3rd. WTF?
