Samsung's GT-B9150 smartphone leaks with Exynos 5 processor and 1080p screen resolution
0. phoneArena 01 Feb 2013, 20:37 posted on
Just a few days ago, a list of Samsung smartphones expected to launch in the first quarter of 2013 included the GT-B9150 handset and while no information was known about the model, some new information has come to light about this handset, which could be the Samsung Galaxy S IV just waiting to be officially named...

Samsung releasing three beasts this year?

I think what everyone should put into perspective is that the original article (traced back to SamMobile) had no mention of a 5 inch screen. In fact, if you read other articles on other sites they are speculating this could be a tablet for all anyone knows. I think it's interesting that the Galaxy Player 5.8 model number is GT-I9150 and this is GT-B9150.
EDIT: My guess would be this is the Galaxy Tab 3. With a codename "HomeSync" and a 1080p display (which would be inexpensive enough now to put in the Tab 3 since the Tab 2 was a $400 device) I would say chances are this is a tablet. I, of course, could be wrong but that is my guess.

Let me add that nowhere in the article did we write that this had a 5 inch screen. It is merely pointing out that a 5 inch screen on a FHD device poroduces a Pixel Density of 441ppi.
As far as the GT-B9150 is concerned, we have no info as to the size of the screen.
55. Dr.Phil (Posts: 924; Member since: 14 Feb 2011)
While I agree with your statement Alan that there was no mention of a 5 inch screen (you did just state that a 5 inch screen would have a 441 ppi pixel density), the way the entire article is setup is misleading to readers. In fact, there is no mention anywhere in the article that this could be a tablet, when other sites are mentioning the possibility of it being a smartphone or a tablet. You refer to the model later in the article as a "handset" instead of a handset or a tablet. Not to mention there is a pretty good size picture off to the side with the caption "Is the GT-B9150 the Galaxy SIV?" We all know the Galaxy SIV is rumored to have a 5 inch screen. So, I'm just saying that there were probably readers out there that may have taken it as you speculating this could only be a smartphone, which is why I posted my comment.

It's interesting no one ever imagined a possibility that this could just be a monstrous QWERTY Galaxy phone. Look at the prefixes of the Galaxy Chat, Galaxy Pro, Galaxy Y Pro. They all have the B something prefixes. Also, this makes a lot of sense considering Samsung is drumbeating themselves to the enterprise segment with their so called "SAFE" campaign and how they are somewhat trying to steal the spotlight of the introduction of BB10

My next phone will be the Note 3. I am still in love with my Note 2, big beautiful display, lots of ram, great processor, amazing battery life, and despite it's large size, it's still very much pocket and easy to hold.
58. half_21 (Posts: 44; Member since: 16 Nov 2012)
I have to agree with ur statement except for the "pockety" part except if ur wearing baggy pants...i own a note2 and its not as u have described it physically..though i admire the awesome capability of this phone..
3. phones522 (Posts: 94; Member since: 27 Jan 2010)
It definitely is the S4 because what other phone is Samsung going to have with those specs it cant be the note 3 there not going to downsize
10. jinwons (Posts: 95; Member since: 24 Nov 2010)
It can't be GS4 because it's going to have Exynos 5 dual. Nexus 10 already has this processor. GS4 will have Exynos 5 Octa processor.
11. jove39 (Posts: 1320; Member since: 18 Oct 2011)
Exynos octa is a wild horse...will be difficult to tame inside smartphone chasis...power consumption and heat will be major challenge...wonder why there are no phones announced with Tegra4 yet?
16. Hemlocke (unregistered)
The Exynos 5 Dual is going to be a bad deal in a smartphone. That thing is a power hog.
20. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4103; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
Power consumption isn't too much of a problem with the Exynos 5 Octa thanks to big.LITTLE. As for heat, I don't really know.
25. HDShatter (Posts: 1021; Member since: 17 Jan 2013)
Big.little is NOT for phones. It is a stupid technology that will be a failure and die. I don't understand why people think its a good idea it is a horrible idea.
I know your going to disagree but the extra core for power saving in the tegra 4 is going to have more impact on the battery life than big.little. Still waiting for an article on this site that explains why big.little is a stupid gimmick that will never work.
32. Dr.Phil (Posts: 924; Member since: 14 Feb 2011)
Actually, according to Samsung, big.Little IS going to be offered in smartphones as well as other devices.
36. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4103; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
A stupid gimmick that will never work? So Samsung's official claims that the Exynos 5 Octa will use 70% less power than the Exynos 5 Dual is a lie? I mean, I know that 70% is a peak scenario based on optimal conditions, but more or less it's going to save power, which is the entire point of big.Little.
28. TROLL (banned) (Posts: 4851; Member since: 13 Apr 2012)
It should EV been clocked at 2.3 GHz, and slightly wider, and with 3 GB Ram™
24. Dr.Phil (Posts: 924; Member since: 14 Feb 2011)
Well officially, Samsung says the Exynos 5 Octa will consume up to 70% less power than the Exynos 5 Dual. Now, if you take the stance of the Qualcomm CEO then you will claim that it is a power hungry processor.
Also, there was an article PA put out today explaining why there is no real adoption of the Tegra 4 chipset.
You also have to remember that the Tegra 4 chipset isn't ready for production until around Q2 of this year (the nVidia Shield is supposedly going to be the first Tegra 4 device). So, any phones that are going to feature the chipset probably won't be announced until around that time (unless they feel like announcing a phone that won't be in production for a couple of months).
I would say you are sadly mistaken to comment that the Exynos Octa chipsets (or any other A15 chipset for that matter) are going to be power-hungry or big producers of heat, because the facts show otherwise.
39. imsickwithsmartphone (Posts: 153; Member since: 28 Jan 2013)
Yeah, competiitor said like this, power hungry, produce a lot of heat, bla bla bla....
but they said like that, power efficient, less heat, etc....
this is SMARTPHONE WORLD!!
50. kobainez (Posts: 302; Member since: 13 Apr 2012)
It will drain so much battery when u play hd games. Its power saving works when u do simple things like call, txt etc. The A7 cores will work only when u open up simple apps
61. Dr.Phil (Posts: 924; Member since: 14 Feb 2011)
Okay, I want you to think about this: what phone/device would NOT drain the battery when playing "HD games" or anything that requires a lot of processing power? Tegra 4, A6X, Exynos, and S4 would all drain the battery faster when playing games or watching movies than if they were just doing mundane tasks. However, the quad-core A15 Cortex along with the 28nm process allows it to be much more efficient than the previous A9 Cortex processors. The truth of the matter is that the newer processors that are coming out are not only more powerful but also much more efficient.
26. Adithya7184 (Posts: 316; Member since: 05 Mar 2011)
i don't think its difficult to place it inside a 5-incher phone...4 A7 cores are there to save the Battery. I don't think its a major challenge.
6. ajac09 (Posts: 1367; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
could just be a test phone testing out the screen
8. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4103; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
This is definitely NOT the GS4. The GS4 will have at least the Exynos 5 Quad, and plus the GS4 is supposed to have its own event, not be at MWC (like you said, Alan).
18. Hemlocke (unregistered)
An Exynos 5 quad would be a huge mistake. ARM has stated that the power requirements for A15 in a phone are too much, and a BIG.little A15/A7 configuration is recommended.
22. HDShatter (Posts: 1021; Member since: 17 Jan 2013)
The exynos 5 quad would overheat in a phone, the only a15 chip that will work in phones is the snadpragon 800 and tegra 4.
40. TylerGrunter (Posts: 1040; Member since: 16 Feb 2012)
Only that the snadpragon 800 is NOT an A15.
51. kobainez (Posts: 302; Member since: 13 Apr 2012)
Its better or on par with current A15. Try google it
62. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4103; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
Still, not A15. It's a custom Krait architecture, that's the point he was trying to make, he made no remarks on quality compared to true A15.
27. ph00ny (Posts: 606; Member since: 26 May 2011)
Wouldn't Exynos5 octa be the right solution since it is using the big.little configuration?
12. lpratas (Posts: 103; Member since: 09 Nov 2011)
It can be a top Tizen phone or unless a phone to compete with the Sony Xperia SP maybe. Or maybe a WP8 phone. It can be any one.
13. HTCOE (Posts: 509; Member since: 20 Nov 2011)
this which is either the S4, or Note 3, or some new Galaxy vs the X Phone
but im still awaiting the next Nexus of this year !
14. cR203 (Posts: 188; Member since: 27 Jan 2013)
I'm not sure what phone this could be. I don't think its the s4 or note 3.
15. lpratas (Posts: 103; Member since: 09 Nov 2011)
If it be a phone to compete with Sony Xperia SP there be a reason for be released, because this Sony phone has in the specs a dual-core Krait at 1.7GHz, Adreno 320 and maybe 1.5 or 2GB of ram and it's natural that Samsung wants to compete in the top midrage with a Exynos 5 Dual phone. If it is a top Tizen phone i also believe that it can be. If it is a WP8 phone, also it can be, for to be the top WP8 phone in hardware but in this i don't believe so much because the WP8 only uses the Snapdragon Krait platform.
21. lpratas (Posts: 103; Member since: 09 Nov 2011)
Why this phone looks like crap? It isn't a powerful hardware? Even if it isn't the S4, it isn't a powerful phone? I think you have is envy because maybe you are Apple Icrap fanboy.
30. nlbates66 (Posts: 311; Member since: 15 Aug 2012)
if you mean the look of that picture at the top of the article take it with a grain of salt, just about every time there have been "leaked" pictures of galaxy phones they've turned out to be fake and incorrect, That picture completely abandons the idea behind the design of the S III.
31. zuckerboy (banned) (Posts: 898; Member since: 22 Dec 2011)
it will be better than sony ...
34. GALAXY-STORM (Posts: 328; Member since: 13 Oct 2012)
Its neither sgs4 or sgn3. Its released just to threaten sales of device's powered by s4 pro.
35. rustyimtiaz (Posts: 44; Member since: 16 Oct 2012)
this one will be a upper mid range device!!!!
37. emadshiny (Posts: 1142; Member since: 05 Dec 2012)
dual core?? how can SGS4 be a dual core??
this one must be a mid ranger.

just checked the HTC Butterfly this morning and boy thats an "ANGEL PHONE"... lol
its just gorgeous!
now that android has evolved so much and hardware getting better, its more than just the performance of the smartphone! i am very much looking forward to samsung making a device with some real nice Build quality! have been a loyal customer to samsung but im seriously disappointed by the build quality of sammy's phones now! although they are all plastic, they still weigh more than the competitors!
sammy really need to up the build quality of its products now! or they will lose a lot of loyal customers including my self, when almost 95% my electronic gadgets are from samsung!
what u guys think?
41. pyradark (Posts: 781; Member since: 10 Jun 2012)
Monsters Specs but trashy look!! i always had a 50-50 feel on buying sammy device
note 2 owner(great display & speed but eiiww build quality)

samsung's key to success for 2013
low end android: dual core A9, WVGA-qHD, 5Mpix camera, 4-4.5" screen (more or less s3 mini)
mid end: Dual core A15, 720P / WXGA, 8Mpix camera 4.3- 4.7"
high end: exynos octa, FHD screen, 12-13 Mpix camera 4.7 - 5" screen
52. HDShatter (Posts: 1021; Member since: 17 Jan 2013)
You will be lucky if you even get an a15 dual core. They aren't going to put a quad a15 exynos in the s4, maybe the note 3. The only a15 processors that are even close to being ready for phones is snapdragons.
63. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4103; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
The Galaxy S and Note series typically have the same chip, just the in the Note it's clock 200 MHz higher. They will put quad A15 CPUs in phones, they even said they'll put the Exynos Octa in phones. It isn't too difficult, considering the size that the GS4 and Note 3 will probably be; they'll just have to find a way to manage space more efficiently.
Also, the new Snapdragon's aren't A15. They use a custom architecture called Krait. The Krait in the S4 Pro quad was inferior to even dual core A15 (Exynos 5 dual), the new Krait 400 in the Snapdragon 800 running at 2.3 GHz *might* be up to par with true quad A15, but we have to wait to see.
Quad core A15 is ready for phones, it's just they're so power hungry that no one wants to put them in. That's why Samsung made the Exynos 5 Octa, with ARM's big.Little design. 4 A15 cores + 4 A7 cores = quad A15 power (when needed) without the battery drain.
They're going to be out by the second quarter of 2013. They are perfectly ready, the only thing that's not ready is the devices that they'll be in, and the M7 will be announced with the Tegra 4 this month; or at least it should, if HTC wants to have any success this year.

Again great chips by SS but that look is terrible. I know looks are subjective but for fk sake SS get it together in this very important category"
46. MistB (Posts: 581; Member since: 07 Jul 2012)
How many times does it have to be said that that is NOT an actual image nor final representation of the actual phone, it is just a fan made mockup by some very crafty Hong kong student. The model B9150 is NOT the S4 in anyway but another device. Sometimes wonder whether the folks in charge are trolling!
47. papss (unregistered)
Mistb I get that but if YOU read under the pic it says could this be he b9150 so since that's all we have to go by then that's what I'm commenting on.. You act as though it would be a stretch for SS to use this design again... Have you seen the last two years of SS products? They are doing an apple... They all look the same whether it be the note, note 2, S3 or any of there lower range phones..and don't get me started on the lack of fit and finish that they put into their phones... I'm all for their chip sets but the phones are garbage
49. MistB (Posts: 581; Member since: 07 Jul 2012)
Well lets just say that Samsung are the Audi of the phone world without the fit and finish, photocopied designs from the top model ;) The render in question in just an impression but yes, it's like saying before the MK VII Golf was revealed we have only the cgi's to go by and in reality, they're quite off until the FEP stage. I will concede that Samsung has been using the same design but maybe they want that same cohesive look that creates a unique identity for their range that says Samsung and not HTC/Apple. Don't get me wrong, the aesthetics aren't their strong point but here's hoping that 2013 will usher some designs and materials that are light years ahead of their current range. We won't really know until we see something concrete from the source themselves.

I definitely think it's either galaxy note 8.0 or one of galaxy tab series .
53. goojman (Posts: 55; Member since: 29 Oct 2012)
Definitely going with the Note 3 when it comes out.. Once you go Note, you can't go back to anything with a smaller foot print..
