Samsung's Chief Strategy Officer becomes an Apple fanboy at home

0. phoneArena 13 Dec 2012, 07:12 posted on

Samsung's Chief Strategy Officer decides in which direction the Korean based manufacturer is going to go; incredible as it may seem, once Young Sohn gets home, he changes from Samsung executive to Apple fan boy with a personal collection of Apple devices that includes an Apple iPhone and an Apple iPad...

He knows its products are not better (not the phone itself but the environment, marketing, and everything related to customer perception on it) and did nothing to improve that.
But I don’t think it is the case anymore, Samsung Mobile from 4 years ago is not the same Samsung from now.

"Did nothing to improve that"? Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot we live in the Magical World of Sarcasmaland, where every major business decision is accomplished in the blink of an eye and a snap of the fingers, and anything can happen on the breath of a wish!

Dude, if the guy can recognize quality in his opponents he should keep his job for that alone. Greater empires have fallen because stubborn helmsmen disregard the icebergs of change that doom their ship (RIM of 2007, I'm looking at you.) This guy is obviously working to improve Samsung's ecosystem, and using Apple as a target isn't a bad way to do it.

This isn't a war with lives at stake, this is a competition between two businesses. To fire somebody for expressing their opinion is not only rediculous, but is also immoral and violates freedom of speech. The same people who are saying this guy should be fired would very likely be the people who would praise, say, Jony Ive if he came out and said he was impressed by Samsung.

Exactly my question, darkkjedii...

As far as I understand he is chief STRATEGY officer of Samsung, and he is doing his job as well as anybody should...

By using Apple products he gets glimpses of Apple strategies and can make SAMSUNG strategies even better...

I could not agree more with this guy. He is just saying Samsung is making better devices but Apple has a better ecosystem. Anyone can see that Samsung phones are way better than iPhones but the ecosystem, simplicity, and trust goes to Apple.

aaronkatrini I agree as well. Like it or not Apple makes excellent computers, phones and tablets, but for certain types of users, myself included to an extent, others offer features that aren't on iOS or OSX that are absolutely necessary on android. I have a GALAXY Note and a MacBook Air and an iPad 3rd gen. I do disagree a bit since you can create a mixed ecosystem, albeit with a bit more difficulty, it can be done. I use Dropbox to backup documents and photos, I could find them on my Note and the MacBook Air, thank goodness for the overwhelmingly generous 50GB dropbox gave me for Jelly Bean update.

As a chief strategist for Samsung, then yes that statement holds true... as long as he's looking at Apple's product's objectively.

As a fan however (if he is indeed an Apple fan) then his perceptions become more subjective and his value to Samsung in the performance of his job duties drops significantly.

Perhaps other members of Samsung were also Apple users and/or enthusiasts. Say, right around when a certain phone(s) were put to market that lead to certain lawsuits because of certain resemblances...

Both apple and samsung spent millions in the form of marketing. Make no sense to promote your competitions at the expense of Samsung. The one that pays your expense. He can be a apple fan but he should not make it a statement in the media, doing so is a conflicts of interest and biting the hands that feed.

and i love how you android fans are convincing yourselves he only uses apple products to learn whats good and use it to beat apple...talk about deluded. he uses it and again i will try to be clear because thats what he chooses to use...no secret agenda to it

Don't you think if it were different we'd consider it so? We'd call OSX a Windows equal when it can do at least 3/4 of what we can do on a Windows PC.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling people stupid because they use OSX, I'm saying they're using OSX because they're stupid, there's a difference. But of cause, once in a while, a few "professionals" use OSX simply because the pros of OSX for their use outweighs the cons. Take this guy for example, he's a chief strategy officer, all he probably needs a computer to do is browse the web and send emails and documents, which both Windows and OSX can do, however, OSX is less prone to viruses, while Windows is not. But, when we're talking about raw power and what each OS can do, OSX is clearly a kid's toy next to Windows (hell, it's more confusing than Windows lol)

I'm sorry 3/4? You must be joking. I have both a windows and an OSX machine and frankly, it does absolutely everything my windows PC does, except for games. And guess what. It does all that with greater ease! I browse the web, I edit photos and videos, and I do word-processing, and all that I did on the PC, only it was a lot slower on the PC, especially with it's lack of full-screen apps, a terrible use of gestures and is less fluid, although it has the processing power to run Far Cry 3 at 60 fps and my macbook can't even open it. You have no right to judge especially since you don't own a mac and are clearly basing your judgement on the specs. If the fact that macs can't do games is troubling for you, too bad. I'm not stupid and I can't go back to PCs simply because web browsing is terrible in comparison, it doesn't have final cut pro and is fundamentally flawed compared to OSX. I also find it amusing that you think it's confusing. My friend doesn't know how to turn off a windows 8 computer, and can turn off my mac after using it for the first time in his life. You're also contradicting yourself, if people use macs because they're stupid, shouldn't it mean that it should be ridiculously easy to turn off? And further more, doesn't that mean that you just called yourself stupid because you think it's confusing to turn off a system meant for dumb people?

Why's all the negative comments, even the HTC founder Cher Wang's husband is an Apple fanboy as well, he also own a mac, and iPad...
Apple founder Wozniak pick surface as their tablets instead of iPad, is that the sins?

I believe at least one Google employee own iDevice and at least one Apple employee own android...

This declaration can be used by Apple to sustain the claim Samsung copies everything Apple "creates". He speaks of a stronger ecosystem, that was true one year ago. Right now, Google Services offer a powerful all-around ecosystem as well and in some cases even more reliable than Apple's offerings (someone said Maps?). Maybe this guy has a point but if it were up to me, I would still reprimand him to keep his personal preferences away from the media.

Let me guess, you thought a rich, educated and professional man was going to be logging around an ugly piece of plastic like the S3. You have to remember he has to go to social and professional events. Furthermore, I'm willing to bet the companies CEO children all have iPhones, in private quarters. They have concrete numbers, how many devices are returned or defective; know where true quality, and workmanship lies. Just because you own Ford doesn't mean you can't drive Lamborghini. Sure they want you to buy their devices and get richer, and why not? If they sell you a piece of plastic for $600 and you buy it, is your problem. Don't expect everyone else buy into it. Now, grow up and join the real world.
