Samsung working on forming a partnership between Tizen and Firefox OS
0. phoneArena 29 Nov 2013, 16:08 posted on
Just how badly does Samsung want to split from Android? Amid rumblings that the Korean based manufacturer feels responsible for Android's success (to be fair, Samsung does have the lead in global market share amongst smartphone manufacturers), Samsung’s Chief Secretary Wonsuk Lee said at an HTML5 conference that thecompany is working on fostering a relationship between its Tizen OS and Firefox OS...

It's hard enough to get people to understand how much better Android is than iOS and despite popular misnomers how simple it actually is. Why in the crap would you leave the OS that all your users have come to love and took the time to learn?
3. Finalflash (Posts: 1803; Member since: 23 Jul 2013)
Because no matter how much they adapt/copy others (not saying this in a bad) they are still of the old school mentality of proprietary OS and full control. That is just how it works with these idiots and they don't realize that they sucked and still suck at OSes and should focus on their hardware strengths instead of trying to completely take over everything. All that remains now is that in the attempt they will fail at everything. Lucky for them, Google is nice enough to let them hedge their bets by letting them use Android in the interim and concurrently.

"Letting" them use Android? People are so butt-hurt about Samsung's success.

So much hate LMAO .. Honestly I don't get why people get butthurt that Samsung and Co are trying to build a new mobile OS. Come on ... Competition is good and always welcome. Ultimately we comsumers will get benefits of choices! Windows, iOS, Android, Firefox, Ubuntu, Tizen .. Awesome LOL

Android is slow, resource hungry, has tons of security holes.
And Java sucks.

I don't know what Android handsets you're using, but my HTC One & Nexus 4 are anything but slow and resource hungry. Tons of security holes? No more do than iOS or other OSes out there.
13. tedkord (Posts: 4955; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Android is the number one mobile OS by a factor of 4, used by the number one smartphone manufacturer by a factor of over 2.
And that sucks for you.
25. ardent1 (Posts: 1997; Member since: 16 Apr 2011)
That is absolutely correct. There are more junk android smartphones being used than any other smart phone.
44. tedkord (Posts: 4955; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Awwww. Maybe you and Ozzy's former guitarist here could get together and apply the Preparation H to each other. And brainstorm some more excuses and rationalizations.
Meanwhile, I'll be deciding whether or not to upgrade my S3 to a Note 3 off contact or wait until next year to see what is coming down the pike.
16. shamataa (Posts: 202; Member since: 07 Dec 2011)
just becuase you have bad experience on Android on 1 phone does not apply to other people nor other phones. You don't speak for everyone in the billions user on the number 1 platform of all time. Go cry somwhere else bud.
26. ardent1 (Posts: 1997; Member since: 16 Apr 2011)
shamataa -- you don't get it. About 70% of android devices are just junk. It's not one person saying it -- it's billions of people saying android sucks.
37. jroc74 (Posts: 4966; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Right....thats why Android has a HUUUGE marketshare lead...
Because billions of ppl say it sucks....
42. joey_sfb (Posts: 3003; Member since: 29 Mar 2012)
ardent1 life must suck for you. So bother by Samsung and Android success.
The rest of us just enjoy the value that both Android and Samsung brings.
If i think fire fox OS is better i will get it, i don't think i will ever need your biased advise on phone.
45. tedkord (Posts: 4955; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Billions, eh? Since you're already out there, why not just go ahead and claim trillions of people are saying Android sucks. It's not like you have any credibility left to worry about.

that's why KitKat can run smoothly on 512 MB RAM?
First, Java in Android is different, it uses dalvik virtual machine, not Oracle JVM. It's optimized. Not all the code in java app need to be translated into virtual machine, sometime certain codes can be executed directly in the OS without translation in VM. That's why today's java can be as fast as the program written in C++.
Second, resource hungry because the apps use skins. Rip the skins, it becomes lighter and runs smooth.
Now I dare MS and Apple to run Java in their OS. Can java apps in their OS run as smooth as Android? it will lag as hell. Google has done great job here optimizing java in android.
Tons of security holes? Please mention at least 100 of them. That's what happens when an OS is number 1, becomes the target of hacker & attacker. Just like MS windows becomes the target of 750,000 viruses.

Don't waste time replying to him, he's one of those rabid iFans, they'll use whatever logic (sometimes just bashing like in this case) to put down anything but iOS. If you haven't read one of his crazy rants about x64 and how it will only work on iOS, I suggest you continue not doing so, its utter BS.
29. JakeLee (banned) (Posts: 1021; Member since: 02 Nov 2013)
So you are talking about things you heard of.
I'm talking about what I'm working on.
Java is sh*t. Dalvik isn't any different. The only meaningful difference between JVM and Dalvik is they are each stack/register based. Google adopted Dalvik only on the purpose not to pay a single cent to Oracle. (They succeeded in that)
The Zygote instance of Dalvik interpreter and even interpM suck.
Comparable native codes run roughly 20 times as fast as the VM and about five times as fast as Dalvik JIT.
Both Apple and MS hate Java for the reason.
Google chose Java not because it's good, but there was no choice left :
Being a web company, most of its engineers were proficient with Java the most.
And unlike Apple or MS, Google had no toolchain, no IDE.
With Java, Google was able to "misuse" the whole development environment Sun had established. Eclipse and all the plugins around without paying a single cent. Oracle has every right to be furious.
Java sucks. period.
30. supersume (Posts: 5; Member since: 04 Oct 2013)
Well, I am a programmer, and comparing Java to .NET, Java is terribly slow. I don't really know what the problem is, coz they both use managed code and require runtimes (or VMs in the Java world) and have garbage collectors. Programming for Windows Phone is a very smooth experience comparing to Android. No comparison. But I still love Android and use Visual Studio, C# and Xamarin to code for Android

Why blame Android?
Blame all the OEMS, using outdated CPU, which can't keep up with the OS. Android multitasks more than your PC, it runs so many apps that the OEMS are only providing so less RAM, and CPU that it can't keep up with the OS.
The CPUs are so weak that it struggles to push Flash on phones. A57, A15s are the perfect CPUs, but OEMs are not providing better battery, slim like the RazrMax.
48. microsoftnokiawin (Posts: 971; Member since: 30 Mar 2012)
MeeGO had true Multitasking and did amazing things and ran amazing things using thanks to all the developers on maemo.org
what was it running on 1 gb of ram and 1 GHz single core processor
so yes android is the blame because it's designed in a way that makes it resource hungry and it runs on java as JakeLee said
20. Username. (banned) (Posts: 74; Member since: 25 Nov 2013)
Well way much better than halfbaked OS, that cant truly mulitask.
Still no way near Android. To become like it, they will need to raise Cpu speed.
33. Ashoaib (Posts: 2297; Member since: 15 Nov 2013)
Many people seems furious over samsungs development of OS... why?... they are a company and they have a right to produce what they think can be beneficial for their business... apple has it own OS, so whats wrong if samsung has its own?... ifans do you hate apple for having own OS? if not then plz shut up against samsung
2. puckhead (Posts: 76; Member since: 13 Jan 2013)
more like the other way around, Android is responsible for Samsungs success.
7. maccess (Posts: 629; Member since: 16 Jan 2013)
well samsung is the one who made android famous.. in some small country most people even think samsung = android.. htc = chinese brand , lg = some korean brand.. so sad..
8. JerryTime (Posts: 468; Member since: 09 Nov 2013)
I'm pretty sure Motorola and and the Droid Tag line was what put Android on the map before Samsung did.
38. jroc74 (Posts: 4966; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Exactly. The orig Droid put Android on the map. Not Samsung.
53. alpinejason (Posts: 262; Member since: 06 Sep 2011)
You are correct sir the Droid brand is verizon
32. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
Any person who think samsung = android is clueless or closed minded fanboys like you :) and some uneducated people.
34. maccess (Posts: 629; Member since: 16 Jan 2013)
fanboy like me?? i just give an example kid.. i never proclaimed that samsung = android.. can you read properly?? did you use your eyes to read?? or because you had problem with me?? lol.. kids these day..
36. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
You think i'm a kid?? hahaha...
I'm 100% that you are closed minded samsung fanboy because you always defend samsung even when you know that samsung doing something wrong.
That's the reason why i say “Any person who think samsung = Android is clueless or closed minded fanboys JUST LIKE U” :)
46. maccess (Posts: 629; Member since: 16 Jan 2013)
and you're just close minded SONY BOY that hates samsung so much.. and sorry in fact my last samsung phone is my s3 and now i've been using the htc one for 7 months.. i defend samsung from kids like YOU.. why?? butt hurt sony boy likes you keep bashing samsung in any samsung articles as far as i know.. but have you ever saw me bashing sony phones on any sony's article?? NO , coz i'm mature enough and i'm not sucking my thumb anymore like you're doing now boy.. :)
51. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
Let me tell something about me.
I always bash samsung and their fanboys only when samsung doing something wrong or when samsung fanboy say something stupid.
If you are “mature enough” you will never defend your beloved company like mindless armies.
Just FYI I'm also samsung and nokia loyal customer since 2009 and until this day there is only 4 devices from sony that i ever use K750i, RX100, Xperia ZR and Tablet Z.
If you can show me that sony have done some dirty moves like samsung i'll start bashing sony.
4. snowgator (Posts: 3242; Member since: 19 Jan 2011)
Samsung does not want to "split" with Android, in my opinion. More like they want to have an OS they can foster to not be so dependant on Android.
I can't see how leaving Android will help them at all. The two make up the most successful pairing ever. Not just in mobile..... EVER.
Well, that Reese's pairing may have an argument, but OTHER then them.......
5. darkvadervip (Posts: 333; Member since: 08 Dec 2010)
It's amazing how idiots bring up iOS into this conversation. It's more people that create apple vs android war than the actual companies. All OS's are pretty amazing just find out which one you like.
10. MojoDojo (Posts: 82; Member since: 11 Jul 2013)
Can someone who knows a lot about this tell me why Samsung would want to leave Android? I would not say that Samsung made Android famous or vice versa .. but today Samsung and Android together are the biggest in the smartphone industry. Why risk it?
15. Boybawang (Posts: 45; Member since: 02 Jun 2013)
Because the burden of Android forced Samsung to pay fines to both Apple and Microsoft in Billions total and its still going on. Shame because Android is an excellent OS too bad some features are borrowed tech
21. tedkord (Posts: 4955; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Nothing from Android cost them a penny in fines. Some license fees. And every OS has borrowed tech. Every new feature in iOS 7 came from another mobile OS.
12. DigitalJedi_X2 (banned) (Posts: 346; Member since: 30 Jan 2012)
I'm pretty sure that if Android were to never have been, Samsung would not be in the position they're in now. I say Android and Samsung are responsible for each others success.
14. AstronautJones (Posts: 271; Member since: 01 Aug 2012)
I agree with many of you. Tizen will be a supplement to Android and not a replacement. I would go with Windows before Tizen.
23. W.P._Android_in_that_Order (Posts: 206; Member since: 15 Feb 2012)
I really hope this takes off.

You know anyone saying that android is slow or a resource hog is stuck in a time when this once was true. All I can say is I love my nexus 5 and I'll put it up against any iPhone or wp phone out right now. I'm sorry Samsung but you need to stop before you end up dead in the water. I'm not a fanboy I have been using android since 2009 and watched it grow. I had a little affair with wp and went back. My friend has an iPhone and I fix all of his problems. So yes I can truly say that Android you have become a very mature young adult with so much potential ahead of you.
40. jroc74 (Posts: 4966; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Exactly....seems like many are caught in a 2008, 2009 time warp....
49. microsoftnokiawin (Posts: 971; Member since: 30 Mar 2012)
android is still a resource hog if you look closely that android yes has been improving but the game changer is the hardware advancement in the last few years they just answered the question by giving android the resources it need !!
31. itsdeepak4u2000 (Posts: 2694; Member since: 03 Nov 2012)
But this partneership would be nice for their success.
35. AfterShock (Posts: 2812; Member since: 02 Nov 2012)
Don't care for Samsung myself, so this shouldn't effect my future purchases greatly,
as I'm hearing the siren call of Gomoto lately anyways.
43. LikeMyself (Posts: 288; Member since: 23 Sep 2013)
I have a better idea:
Partner with Apple and bring iOS to your crap devices!
Apple makes 4.0 inches iPhones. Samsung makes larger 4.7,5.0 inches samPhone with iOS.
Leave Android samsung, you're only making bad advertisement for Android.
Look at how you made TouchWiz heavy, dull and full of lag. The difference is night and day when you compare with Sony and HTC and even more with CyanogenMod. And I know what I am talking as I was a fool for using your products! GTH
54. MartyK (Posts: 715; Member since: 11 Apr 2012)
I think Samsung should use a different OS,
Because they don't appreciate Android anyway, please add them to the listed of user to be good companies
Another episode of 'where are they' coming up.. lol
