Samsung triples number of smartphones sold year-over-year in Q4

What a quarter it was for Samsung as the Korean based manufacturer sold three times the number of smartphones it sold in the three month period ending in December from the same quarter a year ago; the company estimates Q4 smartphone shipments of 35 million units vs. 28 million in Q3...

I would happily buy a Galaxy S 3 if it comes out in the US sooner after its international debut than the GS2 took to come to the US. Wasn't it released internationally in May and didn't it not come out in the US till September? That's why I didn't waste my upgrade on a Epic 4G Touch.

Well Samsung has been coming out with top-notch high quality devices this year so they definitely deserve it. Honestly, the only thing that stopped me from picking up the SGII last year was the android market.

And...why don't you like Android Market? I'm genuinely curious.

The android market isn't that great even after all its improvements. All big company applications like Pandora, ESPN, Facebook, Shazam, etc will easily be in the market but I've found on the App Store that the small and no-name companies are the golden ones (and this is everything and not just games).
For example, I've been using an app called 2Do for almost two years now.http://www.2DoApp.com/en/2Do/t
They were suppose to come up with an Android version one and half years ago but its still "in progress." I don't want to wait months or years for every good application that comes out. So if I'd switch to android I'd have to downgrade my applications and use things like astrid or other simple bare bones black background with white text applications that I really hate and could never use (of course not all of them are like that). And sometimes even the same exact applications look better and/or have more functionality in app store than market like documents to go.

You have great hardware like the SGII but then sucky and ugly applications. Buying SGII would not only mean buying all my iOS apps over again, but also buying crappier versions. I had to pass

its a beautiful piece of machinery. The only thing that stopped me from buying it was that Tmobile doesnt offer a real SGS2. Accept no substitutes.
Heres to the SGS3 and high hopes that we see it by summer like the SGS1 and not by christmas like the SGS2! :)

worldwide release would be awesome but don't think its possible even for Samsung to achieve that.I get a feeling Samsung will do everything to have the US release close to the international release as close as possible.

Let's not forget that 60% of the rise of Samsung is due to the temporary fall of Nokia, and the other 40% is due to the iOS illegal copy - Android. Still, Apple makes the biggest profit and sells tens of millions of only ONE handset in a matter of months, while Samsung sells tens of smartphones. Remember the start of 4S? Over 4 millions in a WEEKEND! Samsung sold 10 million of G2 in 7 months. By the way I had an Android phone for a year and happily got rid of it 2-3 weeks ago. I am now a happy owner of a Nokia 800 - a great phone and most importantly great os!

ok, to ignore your complete fanboyism.
the i4 sold 4 million in a weekend on a WORLDWIDE launch of major markets... including by far its biggest markets, the USA & Europe. The SGS2 sold 3 million in the first month in JUST SOUTH KOREA without help of its biggest markets, the USA and Europe.

I have been a HTC fan for a long time. I love HTC products. I have had their Windows Phones from back in the day, to the HTC Evo 3D. They are very high quality & very durable. BUT I can say this with no qualms Samsung just makes a better product.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus & a Samsung Droid Charge. These phones displays are absolutely fantastic. From the 720p Super AMOLED on the Galaxy Nexus to the Super AMOLED+ of the Droid Charge there are just no substitutes.
Also the build quality is awesome, yes they are made of plastic but that is the point, they want solid light weight phones that are easy to hold & work with. Samsung could easily make a metal phone, but they choose not to. Also not to mention that Samsung makes most of its own components. Samsung is a complete company.
So I see why Samsung is selling hundreds of millions phones worldwide. The people who are buying them love what Samsung brings to the table. People just like Samsung’s innovation, products, & vision. 2012 will be huge for Samsung. Can anyone say Samsung Galaxy S III? Can we all say quad-core? Can we all say 720p Super AMOLED+ screen. I know I can! Keep up the great work Samsung, you have earned my business & my total respect. HTC still makes great phones, but Samsung just plain and simple makes a better product.
Apple better watch out because their products lately are losing their luster, & I believe it's only a matter of time before Samsung overtakes Apple in design.
