Samsung to officially launch Tizen at its developer conference in October

When word first surfaced that Samsung had planned to hold its own developer's conference at the end of October, the reasonable expectation was that it would be a springboard for launching Tizen. We certainly weren't expecting the developer's conference to focus on TouchWiz and how to best develop apps for smart appliances...

I think separating from Android will kill Sammy until tizen has the app base android does it should stick with it imho

..they are going to launch first Tizen device - no high end just a tizen device...of course their intention is to have their own strong platform, but they are not stupid to do it right now in a hurry...as soon as tizen will be considered as direct rival of android - i mean apps, and no lag, then you might not be able to see a flagship with android from them...believe me, huge % of users even do not care if android or tizen...main thing - nice device, facebook app and other social crap and thats it...

Well they could pack in the Dalvik Virtual machine to make Tizen runs android apps just like what Crapberry did to their BBOS10 .
If tizen runs android apps I don't mind the note 3 to come with tizen

This makes me wonder if Google will give Samsung a hard time using their services like they are with MS and YouTube.

I think no one gonna trust samsung again after what they did with bada. and even if tizen can run android apps I don't think that is will be a smooth experience. Never try a new things until and unless it gets mature.

This will not end well for Samsung.. drop android, and it only give Sony and Motorola an opening to fill the void.

more OS...nice!!! It'll be a smartphone's world made by hundred of niches...good good!!! Pros and cons on each one...but all can still alive if there are innovations.

Samsung is not dropping android. Tizen, Android and WP will coexist in Sammy's devices. Of course is reasonable to assume Samsung would want it's own OS to rule the world. Of course is not that easy. Tizen will not grow popular from one day to another and having as much apps as iOS or Android is no easy feat....
