Samsung sues Apple in Korea over Apple iPhone Notification Center
0. phoneArena posted on 22 Dec 2012, 02:29
As soon as Apple released a Notification Center in 2011, many expected Google to sue Apple what would appear to be an infringement on an Android feature; now, Samsung is taking Apple to court in Korea over the Notification Center and it appears that the patent at the heart of the suit is not a FRAND related standards-essential piece of IP...

well everyone sees this as a payback time for APPLE
but the real hero from the story is GOOGLE which decided not to sue the i-asses and showing the i-assed "narrow minded and closed sourced" people that google is a MATURED company compared to i-assed company that say "ALL SQUARES WITH ROUNDED CORNERS".belong to them.
google only wishes people (WHICH EVEN INCLUDES THE iassed iphone OWNERS) to enjoy it's innovations.

Google tried too hard to be the peacekeeper. They are like the UN, all talk and no action. Someone needs to step up to the game.

DIdnt expect this from Samsung, Google maybe but not Samsung.
Tit for tat; whats good for the goose , etc? Maybe....but Apple had to know this might happen.
One more thing....Touchwiz notification features were or are nice. Many ppl wanted it in custom ROMs, or apps. How is a company (Apple) gonna sue, claim copying and turn around and have a notification feature that smells alot like a competitors?

I think, in the longer run, it will just confuse the consumers over which phones to pick from. I am a big Samsung fan but I belive these patent wars must end.

I think we all can agree that that patent wars must end bro. That said, we need to tell that to the lawyers who keep cooking up the lawsuits over all this dumb sh*t.

Agree. These companies need to be more innovative and creative (which Samsung is, no offense to Apple fans out there) instead of keeping this meaningless patent wars going on which no one will really benefit from. Like I said, it only really adds to consumers confusion.

Love it. In Korea this case will easily be a Samsung victory. Way to go Samsung. Apple is the one that wanted the war with Android, well they got it.
42. nexusalltheway posted on 22 Dec 2012, 08:32 0 0
yeah. But whats the difference between android and apple then? We need to treat Apple a little differnt for Android to have that moral victory over them.

Difference is they started it. I firmly believe that when someone starts with you, you finish it. Punch the bully in the mouth as hard as you can and continue your day.

I hear you but then apple can come back with some other stuff and this will be a never ending battle only to hurt both giants

Korea doesn't really show any particular support to Samsung. In fact, i think it might hurt them a bit. Korean government has been trying to limit the influence of conglomerates like samsung and lg for years. This might the perfect opportunity.

i do believe google didn't invent that nofitication but they were the first to use well on android. the IOS is a really ripped off of the android one. also i dont think sammy have the right to sue anyone over this.
P.S: so tired , i dont think what i wrote makes any sense. i wrote it anyway :D

Google has actually patented part of Android? That's a shocker. I would say that Samsung has "enhanced" the default Android Notification system because they are not exactly the same. Good to see an Android manufacturer suing Apple over an Android feature rather than Apple trying to sue the manufacturer over an Android feature.

this is pathetic and the law suits need to stop.
92. leetg01 posted on 22 Dec 2012, 21:23 0 0
You guys know wrong. Google has no patent of notification Center. However Samsung got this patent in Sep/2000 at Korea. Even before Google made Android, Samsung got this 12 years ago. It is Samsung's long history of phone business. Apple and Google are just newcomers to phone business.
96. Edmund posted on 23 Dec 2012, 02:06 0 0
lmfao... Samsung has completely lost the plot. Patents relating to event notifications are way too broad to be considered "non-essential". It therefore comes as no surprise that samsung would only try to pull something as stupid as this on its home soil.
97. jroc74 posted on 23 Dec 2012, 02:38 0 0
The notification setup is waaaay different on iOS now than when the iPhone first came out. It changed dramaticallly after Android appeared on the scene.
Events notifications is one thing....they way its implemented is another. Still surprised this didnt come from Google tho. I dont know why Samsung would think they have a case.

I'm sure it's a lot more specific than the "rounded corner."
98. theultimatephoneguy posted on 23 Dec 2012, 03:51 0 0
Apple made a mess of copying android's idea anyway. when you get a notification, it disappears and you won't see it until you pull down from the top, possibly several hours after the notification was received. Android shows a little unobtrusive icon in the top left hand corner, which is easy to see so you would never miss it. EPIC FAIL APPLE.

This is WHAT SAMSUNG should of show in their trail here in the STATES. APPLE DID STEAL THE NOTIFACTION BAR and yet still got a way with it. But Apple got away with a billion dollars so low of them to copy someone else.
