Samsung sues Apple in Korea over Apple iPhone Notification Center

0. phoneArena posted on 22 Dec 2012, 02:29

As soon as Apple released a Notification Center in 2011, many expected Google to sue Apple what would appear to be an infringement on an Android feature; now, Samsung is taking Apple to court in Korea over the Notification Center and it appears that the patent at the heart of the suit is not a FRAND related standards-essential piece of IP...

Upcoming years will be the years of a real tech giant ----> Samsung

I think that Google will license the Notification patent to Apple, Google is more like a business partner to Apple than an enemy. Google needs iOS to deliver their service, and some extra money does no harm.

Frankly I hope I'm wrong.

13. iDroidWin posted on 22 Dec 2012, 04:43 7 1

I think you are. Apple have pay a fees for using notification center. But, honestly, SS shouldn't fall to Apple's level by suing everything. Apple did it own its own.

32. Cynipap999 (banned) posted on 22 Dec 2012, 07:47 1 2

I think you are almost right, they will and should pay. Apple shouldn't be above their own tyrannical extortion methods. However, I do think as extra punishment, Tim Cook should get on his knees for Eric Schmidt; 'a little service please?!'

51. tedkord posted on 22 Dec 2012, 08:57 8 1

You wouldn't want Samsung to stoop to Apple's level, but when a bully keeps punching you over and over just because he's bigger, sometimes you have to throw some punches back, hoping to land one that's good enough to make him stop.

57. iDroidWin posted on 22 Dec 2012, 09:07 6

I don't support hypocrisy. Apple is one. Samsung is strong enough handle such situation. Apple is "trying" to bully him. I doubt SS needs such measures to fight Apple back. Infact, SS has landed a few punch. Its doing good in market, Premium Suite is awesome. I am using it. Leading in phablet category. But, apple getting a piece of its own medicine won't hurt.

93. bigdawg23 posted on 22 Dec 2012, 21:26

They can remove it for all I care. I didn't use on any of my Android phones and I don't use it on Apple IPhone 5.

As for the court battles both of these kids need to play nice and quit the "take my ball and go home" BS. Consumers pay for this garbage.

So is Samsung.....

24. Mxyzptlk posted on 22 Dec 2012, 07:11 3 17

Based on what? If recent statistics are to show, apple is still very much in the lead.

30. Mr.Alawi posted on 22 Dec 2012, 07:42 12 1

Lead ?? what lead ? US Lead or whole world Lead? as i can recall from previous posts that Android toke 52% of market share while iOS at marely 35% ... but if you ment Apple on the lead of sueing companies then you are right..

33. PhenomFaz posted on 22 Dec 2012, 07:56 12

My friend wake up here on PA itself Sales figures showed that Sammy is the leader in smartphones as they sold 59 million units whereas Apple was a far second with just 26 million units...so what lead exactly are you talking bout??

Please explain how it's coming to an end for apple? I'd just like to hear your take bro.

49. Cynipap999 (banned) posted on 22 Dec 2012, 08:50 7 2

He's right, the end is soon. It's Apple's own fault, they're playing in a rapidly changing and competitive market with a mindset of 2009; it's their own pompous attitude that will be their ultimate demise. I speak to more former iPhone owners on a daily basis now than ever before; they usually have opted for a GS3 or a Note 2.
Based on what they've said, they just got tired of the micro hardware updates; they wanted a bigger screen; they wanted a more powerful phone; they got tired of everything being proprietary; they're fed up with iTunes; or, all of the above.
The end is near: R.I.P. Apple!!

65. sithvenger (banned) posted on 22 Dec 2012, 09:48 3 2

Good points, I recently sold my ip5 and got the note 2 for those same reasons. Ip5's a solid device, but apple is holding it up with their restrictive nature.

87. Cynipap999 (banned) posted on 22 Dec 2012, 16:27

Acutally, I think that Symbian or Maemo was the first to have a pull down notification bar. Correct me if I'm wrong.

61. redmd posted on 22 Dec 2012, 09:18 1

I'm not sure about Maemo but iI know Symbian got the notification toggle during the belle update.

73. kanagadeepan posted on 22 Dec 2012, 10:24

OMG.... Belle came only after Android got Notification system.. Infact Nokia too copied that idea on its belle upgrade and still using it in series40 phones like Asha..

I am ex-Symbian fan and now Android user...

6. rusticguy posted on 22 Dec 2012, 03:07 3 2

Naah .. iNotification has patented "Skewmorphism" written all over. Apple only improves it doesn't steal or copy ... Apple advocate Myxtyxpyx would say this is Essential Patent so Apple should get it for 1/00th of a pence :D

haha aww how funny a troll trying to turn it round onto someone else, mate your a real fail you know that.

yes there are lots of trolls on here, and we dont need them they should be banned.

both Mxyzptlk and you are the same, i hope P.A bans you for good as you add nothing and pollute this site with your hate and one sided fanboy views

108. jroc74 posted on 23 Dec 2012, 11:32 1 1

I wasnt gonna say anything, now I am:

The more you post, the more you are looking like a fanboy, troll. Me and you dont agree on something, now I'm a fanboy? Thats not what a fanboy is. A fanboy and ppl that dont agree are 2.....totally....different things. Learn the difference between the 2 and stop labeling everyone that doesnt agree with you a fanboy, troll.

Ppl can agree to disagree, in case you didnt know. Know what fanboys do? They do like you, result to name calling and questioning the other person's education, grammer, etc. We can agree to disagree and the world wont explode.

Learn the definition of debate, fanboy, troll, opinion....then maybe we can try to have a sensible debate again. Until then.....pot...kettle.....black....

109. chaoticrazor posted on 23 Dec 2012, 12:08 2

mate again seeing as your only going at me and have never gone at any of the troll's like the above one shows your part of the problem. you will support the trolls that are on your make believe side but anyone questions or calls said trolls out and you will go for them trying to act like the vioce of reason and ignoring the real disrespectful person who has insulted many users. ''troll' right now is seen as a good troll as he is on your side. just like when apple was the majority there trolls were seen as the same.

when the numbers shift he will be subject to what he deserves and those that supported him i.e. you will also be seen as an aid in his trolling

if you wanna call someone out call all out and not just those that have questioned and disproved your claims on other articles. you were acting like a real fanboy couldnt accept solid facts and you kept dodging any questions that were put to you

110. VZWuser76 posted on 23 Dec 2012, 12:50 1 1

And that's what I did in the second paragraph of the post that started this. That's what I meant by everyone. It was not at just for apple, windows, or android fans, but for EVERYONE.

112. jroc74 posted on 23 Dec 2012, 13:16

lol.....this....isnt....about ......him......this....is....about....you....and ....me.

But more about you.

The more you post, the more transparent you become.

If you feel like it.....read my post history, dont assume you know my posting style from a few posts here n there.

Accepting fact? So..I have to accept yours, but you dont have to accept mine? See how crazy this sounds?

116. chaoticrazor posted on 23 Dec 2012, 13:51 2

mate now your just repeating what ive said to you, please try to be more original lol your just deflecting the issue and trying to turn the subject. the facts are you ignore any comment that disproves what you say and then repeat yourself like it means your right. you dont state any facts, all you did was try to put your opinion forward as fact theres a big difference.

but mainly theres no point continuing, your not able to have a real discussion and i doubt ever will be. its like talking to a wall

dont worry though your android back up will appear and support you. ofcourse you will not see a problem with that as its in your favour. as long as its in your favour you wont speak against it no matter how bad it it. one sided trying harder then anyone to convince people your not.

so dont bother repeating what ive directed at you back to me as if its your own. until you can actually give a proper comment with a real basis there isnt any point especially when you never answer whats put to you

113. jroc74 posted on 23 Dec 2012, 13:30 1

I dont have to explain myself to you, but just to indulge you.....

I have made positive posts about Apple, I have asked questions about Apple things here n there. I say good things about WP here n there or just leave regular comments. I gave the orig iPhone props for something.....and that lead to a barrage of red thumbs.

I have gotten into a debate with a fan of Android......big fan... We didnt agree on a subject. Had nothing really to do with Android. Guess what happened? At some point we just let it go and moved on.

Please dont assume you know me and my posting style from a few posts or because we dont agree on something. Learn the definition of a fanboy, troll and try again when it comes to me, thanks.

114. jroc74 posted on 23 Dec 2012, 13:39 1

Until you started the name calling and trying to talk down to me.

9. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 22 Dec 2012, 03:58 4 1

From what I understand Google has been trying to patent the notification system but it has yet been granted. Either way, good on Samsung for at least trying because I dont care what the apple fanboys say, Apple blatantly stole that from Android.

36. androiddownsouth posted on 22 Dec 2012, 08:08 1

I don't see any way that ANY Apple fan can defend this issue. Android has had this for years. I'm not familiar with the other OS's potentially having had it first, but I know for sure Android had this long before Apple added it to iOS 5.

10. apexKBC posted on 22 Dec 2012, 04:02 2 2

Samsung has nearly 32,000 patents
Apple has nearly 1,900 patents,,,,,,,,,
now anybody can estimate who is going to sue whom?

41. kingpet13 posted on 22 Dec 2012, 08:31 2

I'd say Apple will sue Samsung for having a touchscreen on the phone. Then Apple will lose everywhere but in the U.S., and six months later Apple's patent will be invalidated. That is pretty much every patent case in the past year so the patern should continue.
