Samsung signs James Franco for its newest Galaxy Note 10.1 ad, getting more celebrities on board
0. phoneArena posted on 20 Aug 2012, 08:42
A couple of months ago Apple started it with its ads focusing around Siri for the iPhone 4S, and now Samsung is doing it. Did it copy? Let’s not transplant the tough ongoing legal battle…

Don't waste money the Apple's way Sammy, save the money to make your tablets better.

At least James Franco didn't act like a total idiot here and was showing how useful his tablet is. *cough*IsThatRain*cough*

Oh, I don't blame Zooey, I blame the idiots at Apple who came up with the script.

aww come on. No offence to Franco, he's a fine actor, but they needed to one up having Sam Jackson in a commercial. Maybe Arnold or Stallone? :)

I vote Jason Statham, butt kicking while holding a tablet??? PRICELESS.

I feel like I shouldn't buy a Galaxy Note 10.1 to avoid being pretentious and unfunny.
15. SuperAndroidEvo posted on 20 Aug 2012, 11:44 3 2
This commercial is WAY better than the busted Martin Scorsese one that Apple made.
20. shadowcell posted on 20 Aug 2012, 12:49 2 2
As a current Android OS user I would have to disagree completely with that statement. At least Scorsese didn't need to let me know he's the sh*t.
The whole concept is to make a celebrity commercial and how the device improves their lifestyle not "Let's pretend this scenario will always come up on my day-to-day, oh look, pillow fight with the girls."
32. SuperAndroidEvo posted on 21 Aug 2012, 07:27 1 2
shadowcell,
The whole commercial IS supposed to deliberately be over the top & funny. Not serious like the umm....Zooey Deschanel commercial right? C'mon you really think anyone with an iPhone would use it as a friend substitute like Samuel Jackson did in his commercial by telling Siri to take the night off? Also the Martin Scorsese one was completely busted, NEVER would a cab driver in NYC EVER listen to someone on how to get to a particular destination. All 3 commercials are busted examples of how to use Siri in completely unrealistic ways. Especially since all Siri does is show you pictures of Stallions. lol
The James Franco commercial was aimed to be funny & to people who are in late high school, college, & to the young hip business man. I mean when did you finally start to think the commercial was not serous? Was it when he said cue the tiger, the pillow fight, or when he caught the piece of toast from the air? Yeah my toaster definitely does that. The commercial was not about "James Franco is the sh*t". lol
You definitely missed the whole point of the commercial.
Ohh & when I was in college....... YES there were LOTS of pillow fights with girls on my day to day routine. Just a glimpse to my past. lol
33. shadowcell posted on 21 Aug 2012, 08:56 0 1
Actually I didn't miss a thing other than your hypocritical response. It would seem that you miss the point in advertisements, catchy and memorable. This tailors to neither.
The fact that you could still remember the Siri commercials in a negative way still proves my point. And I never recalled saying the Siri commercials were any way "funny".
I never intended to think first that your "fanboism" has clouded your judgement on appeal but now I don't know what to think.
Glad you went to college but for the sake of future business I really hope you didn't major in marketing.
Here, let me give you the first thumbs down because that "emphasizes" my disagreement with your last response. -__-

shadowcell you did say this: "At least Scorsese didn't need to let me know he's the sh*t".
Based on that & only that is why I still think you didn't get the commercial. If you didn't say that I would not have bothered to respond to you at all.
I know you are an Android user as am I but you did sound very questionable with that quote. Based on that quote it led me to believe you didn't get the commercial & that you were insinuating that Apple's commercial are better, more serious or more memorable, what ever you want to call it. All of the commercials are extreme & genuinely over the top. At least James Franco's commercial admits it & maybe that was the whole point of the commercial. A subtle jab at Apple's commercials, maybe.
My "fanboism" really has nothing to do with what you stated. I still don't understand how from this commercial you only get this "At least Scorsese didn't need to let me know he's the sh*t". I don't feel like James Franco is the sh*t, as a matter of fact no man is the sh*t. All men put on their pants on one leg at a time just like you & I.

Great, this is what it has come down to. I've watched that Franco commercial a second time to see if I was maybe overreacting and now I hate myself even more for doing it.
Everything is so fake, missing the bullseye as a "parody". The puzzled scene transitions, the quirky awkward background music and even the acting feels like paper
I don't know even know why I bother anymore but since we're doing quotes I'll conclude with a proverb you're familiar with: "To each his own."
36. SuperAndroidEvo posted on 21 Aug 2012, 11:58 0 0
You know what, the "to each is own" is beautiful. That I think IS the best way to end this. I think we both understand each other.
+1!

I saw the Note 10.1 revealed on Wednesday, turned around and bought the Nexus 7 on Saturday. Man is this thing worth it! I'm a huge Samsung supporter but the Nexus just felt like the best tablet to buy, especially considering it's ridiculously low price.
9. good2great posted on 20 Aug 2012, 09:52 1 0
apple turned samsung supporter... hmmm? you changed your icon and all! lol
cant hate on that lol
how do you like the Nexus tho? i'm thinking about getting one very soon.
13. PimpStrong posted on 20 Aug 2012, 10:13 0 0
You have me mistaken because I've had this icon since October. I had a Vibrant before that.
My gen 1 ipad has sucked for the last year but I didn't want to jump on a laggy Android tablet at all, not even a shiny new galaxy tab of any kind.
Let me tell you though, the N7 is literally the smoothest cleanest tablet setup I've used so far. Jellybean has made Android whole and I wish we were at this point a year and a half ago when Honeycomb came out.
After using an iPad for as much time, I much prefer the 7" 16:10 screen over the bigger iPad screen.
14. good2great posted on 20 Aug 2012, 10:24 0 0
my mistake, there's another "pimp" account on here who was an apple fan had a white iphone 4/s similar to your phone icon.
i too have an ipad but i'm very interested in seeing what jelly bean has done to android on a 7in tab... it wont replace my ipad but there are tons of things i can't do on the ipad that would be great having a nexus 7 for.
thanks

You think one up Samuel Jackson would be Arnold or stallone? lol
23. DigitalBoy05 posted on 20 Aug 2012, 14:23 0 0
id rather see arnold or stallone be in a Siri commercial. lets face it if Siri understands either one of them that will have proved that unicorns exist.

Can we get the girls in back of him to do some promotion goodness?
12. JunitoNH posted on 20 Aug 2012, 10:05 0 2
Lol just like his movies dull, my goodness talk about a boring commercial. Was this commercial about the Note, or Franco's life?
25. ap1989 posted on 20 Aug 2012, 15:55 1 0
$499! rather get iPad not this plastic piece of junk or the Nexus 7 which is cheaper and has up-to-date software like jelly bean and it only $199
