The data, which comes from Strategy Analytics, shows that the Korean manufacturer owns 29.6% of the global smartphone market while Apple's slice of the pie amounts to 17.6%...

Hope Samsung bring even better spec phones and tablets for 2014. Tegra K1 is a good start.

SS has the brand recognition and I like what they did with the Note 3. I don't feel they can grow their install base that much higher without something special but we shall see.

The stock price for both Apple and Samsung went down on disappointing earnings. Enough said ;o)

OK but lets point out that Samsung does need to sell their phones (even flagship) for a reduce price after 6 months. Look at the s4 its free on contract thru almost every carrier. To the general public (not us phone geeks) if they see the S4 free on two year contract and they see the 5s for 199.99 for the same contract of course they will buy the S4. Thats how i got my LG G2 and my HTC ONE...LOL!! How much cash did Sammy make on those sales?

I saw a LOT of iPhone sales over the Holidays. All over the place, and that was before the phone was even three months old.

Sammy made a butt load of cash, as per their recent earnings release. You need to remember, the subsidized prices you see for phones isn't what Samsung is selling them for, it's what the carriers are selling them for in exchange for locking you into a term contract. They bought the phone from Samsung for considerably more.

Samsung's margins are lower than Apple's, but their flagship's have a higher BOM while being similarly priced to iPhones.

Yes but when carriers reduce the price even at the subsidized level is because they were able to get a discount thru the OEM. Samsung needs to play their game and forget about Apple. They need to make a better image other than 'Samsung is all about plastic" When was the last time the UI was improved?

No they don't. None of the iPhone sales took a single dollar of the cost off the price Apple charged the carriers. They don't for Samsung, either.

Derekjeter go back to baseball. Where do u see the s4 free on contract. Everywhere I look its around 200. And if a company can sell a better phone for less money good for them. All that is showing is how greedy apple is and should give u more reason why not to buy apple. everyone should boycot apple till they produce something worth selling. If it was not for marketing apple would be horrible if it went only by performance and what it can do compared to other devices

hold up.... when they say a phone is free with 2 year contract thats just a promotion... you still end up paying more for the phone in the long run... so ur point is invalid...

The Article doesn't bring up how many were flagship devices. We knew all along that Sammy was selling more phones. That was no surprise. The question is how many galaxy s and galaxy note devices sold. Sammy has more cheap phones for sale than fake watches in China. The majority of the 51,000,000 phones that Apple sold were the 5S.
