0. phoneArena 24 Oct 2011, 14:02 posted on
Samsung announced today that it has sold a combined total of 30 million copies of the Samsung Galaxy S and the Samsung Galaxy S II handsets; the Samsung Galaxy S was launched in 2010 and has rung up nearly 20 million units which makes it the highest selling mobile device in the history of the Korean manufacturer...

Yep, me, too, and unless I switch carriers or one of the newer phones comes to AT&T, I plan on getting the SGS2.

It will be a matter of time before the ZTE's or Huawei's of the world start producing knockoffs for hundreds less. Right now ZTE is producing a 4.3" android smartphone that can be bought for $250 (for Boost customers on Sprint's network).
Next year, I wouldn't be surprise to see ZTE or Huawei phones that have comparable features for the Samsung's Galaxy line. By then, Samsung will have the learned the bitter medicine of someone copying their technology without paying for it.

if ZTE can pull off the usability of touchwiz + the power of exynos + the beauty of SA-HD, then go them.
until then, you are talking out of your butt.

Did they not announce this a week or so ago??? Count me in as one of those 30 Million!

Yup your right. It looks like the writers over at PhoneArena need to have a little better communication or at least have one person that approves the stories before they are published, so they already know what is already out there and what isn't. This is a prime example of piss poor communication.

Well with the quality & innovation of the Samsung Galaxy line of phones, naturally it will sell VERY well. The Samsung Galaxy S II is an incredible phone. This makes me imagine what the Samsung Galaxy S III will be like, because the Samsung Galaxy S II was leaps & bounds better than the Samsung Galaxy S. Samsung plain & simple makes a GREAT product, HANDS DOWN!

Agree with most of your post except innovation. What example can you give of Samsung innovating.
I have lots of them copying

no he can't help himself.... he is a negative being. Can't be happy for anyone. I have a mission to get everyone to boycott TACO until he learns to be cooperative. If no one responds to him he'll get lonely and behave better. He needs to be left alone and put in the corner. So please peeps, don't respond to taco AT ALL!
On a personal note, 30 million phones sold? Holy SH*T! Way to go Samsung!!!

Do the words SUPER AMOLED PLUS\HD even strike a chord in your diluted partially dissolved remnant of your brain?
Or is it the fact that they managed to pack the fastest and most powerful smartphone in mid 2011 inside a 4.3 inch screened device, an 8MP camera - and make it thinner than the iPhone 4 in every area except that said camera lens and the chin on the bottom (for stability)?
Or maybe it's their unique touch-wiz experience on their phone?
But no, of course not. /Super Amoled Sarcasm.

"unique touch-wiz" hahahaha maybe you haven't been following the news. Touchwiz is getting samsung banned
61. protozeloz (Posts: 5396; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
well touchwiz has quite unique features
19. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 4814; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
The Super AMOLED, the Super AMOLED +, & the Super AMOLED HD screens. Apple didn't innovate the display with the Retina display, that was LG my good man. Also the best dual-core chip in the world is the Samsung Exynos. You know the dual-core from the iPhone 4S is from Samsung right? Also their design, making excellent, durable, & thin devices. I mean what did Samsung copy & from who? Please don't say Apple because Apple copies everyone. Can you say the LG Prada? & if they can't copy then they buy so they can keep up with Android. Can you say Siri?
25. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Higher specs don't make innovation. I don't know about the display. Did Samsung actually develop the super amoled technology? If so that can be called innovation.
Bigger screen or faster processor isn't innovation and they don't make android so that would not be innovation either.
34. ilia1986 (unregistered)
Okay taco. Let's hear you then.
What did Apple make that is so innovative? Can you even name one thing?
36. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
graphic display on pc with mouse
ipod still dominates mp3 player industry
iPhone - changed the smartphone forever
Now I already know all the comebacks Apple didn't invent it or took it from someone etc. Fact is no one invents a product all by themselves. Everyone takes something from previous generations and works in collaboration with others.
Fact is Apple had the vision and brought a finished product to market. Heck there was no tablet market before Apple even though there were tablets.
44. ilia1986 (unregistered)
So Apple's innovation is to.. expand existing markets? Because there was a MP3 player market before the iPod. A PC market before the Apple 1. A slate market before the iPad. Etc etc.
So Apple - thanks to it's unique status as the most popular consumer electronics company in the world - thanks to countless loyal customers who do nothing but buy Apple products regardless of price or quality - is "innovative" because it sells its products in EXISTING markets - and because of its unique status as the most popular consumer electronics company in the world - thanks to countless loyal customers who do nothing but buy Apple products regardless of price or quality - these EXISTING markets suddenly greatly expand.
That's not innovation taco. It's the furthest thing from it, in fact. It's good old marketing and customer deception. It's been there since the invention of money. Apple just does it better. That's all.
50. taz89 (Posts: 2014; Member since: 03 May 2011)
apples fans believe regardless who invented it,if you mainstream a product then it means you also invented it lol
62. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Apple was not very popular at all when they came out with the iPod. It was just much better than anything else available.
Apple also wasn't popular when they started selling pc's
65. taz89 (Posts: 2014; Member since: 03 May 2011)
was not talking about the popularity of apple.as we know with microsoft you dont need to be a popular company to have your products to be popular.for some odd reason it is believed by some that apple invented everything they put out which is far from the truth
74. bucky (Posts: 2476; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
taz, apple has a way of bringing a finished product to the market-not necessarily invent it.
give credit where credit is due...
-everyone made fun of the ipad and called it uselss...now all of a sudden everyone wants a piece and bigging up their own tablet...
-there were mp3 players but useless, tedius and slow ones. ipod made everything easy and usable.
-i always hear how front facing camera's were there in your 10 years old nokia, but nobody used it! why? because is was brutal. Now, every android phone is a failure if it doesnt have one. Hell, android still hasnt found a suitable competitor to face time.
-why is everyone fighting over how thin a phone is this year? because apple claimed the LAST YEAR!
-a big one everyone forgets is multitouch. Nobody bothered to implement it properly until the iphone showed u it was usefull!
-app store. nokia had one first but i cant remember "apps" being popular or as colorfull untill the appstore came out.
The SGS2 is CLEARLY a copy of the apple iphone from head to toe. I own one and love it but even i can admit it.
Geez, android owners on this website are extremely insecure...
Well done sammy.

Again, your ignorance is insulting to the other members of this site. Xerox PARC Star, Alto sounds familiar?
Are you going to say now Xerox also stole from Apple?
"Well, Steve, I think there’s more than one way of looking at it. I think it’s more like we both had this rich neighbor named Xerox and I broke into his house to steal the TV set and found out that you had already stolen it."
-- Bill Gates

Look up the legal doctrine / definition of "sweat equity" -- that will answer your complaints against Apple regarding Parc & Xerox.
Recall Steve Jobs was invited to see Parc's R&D efforts and that Steve Job came back to visit again with more Apple employees. Somehow, these facts are always omitted in a slam against Steve Jobs and Apple.
"Steve Jobs had co-founded Apple Computer in 1976. The first popular personal computer, the Apple 2, was a hit - and made Steve Jobs one of the biggest names of a brand-new industry. At the height of Apple's early success in December 1979, Jobs, then all of 24, had a privileged invitation to visit Xerox Parc.
And they showed me really three things. But I was so blinded by the first one I didn't even really see the other two. One of the things they showed me was object orienting programming they showed me that but I didn't even see that. The other one they showed me was a networked computer system...they had over a hundred Alto computers all networked using email etc., etc., I didn't even see that. I was so blinded by the first thing they showed me which was the graphical user interface. I thought it was the best thing I'd ever seen in my life. Now remember it was very flawed, what we saw was incomplete, they'd done a bunch of things wrong. But we didn't know that at the time but still though they had the germ of the idea was there and they'd done it very well and within you know ten minutes it was obvious to me that all computers would work like this some day.
It was a turning-point. Jobs decided that this was the way forward for Apple.
Founder, PARC Place Systems
He came back and I almost said asked, but the truth is, demanded that his entire programming team get a demo of the Smalltalk System and the then head of the science centre asked me to give the demo because Steve specifically asked for me to give the demo and I said no way. I had a big argument with these Xerox executives telling them that they were about to give away the kitchen sink and I said that I would only do it if I were ordered to do it cause then of course it would be their responsibility, and that's what they did.
The mouse is a pointing device that moves a cursor around the display screen.
Adele and her colleagues showed the Apple programmers an Alto machine running a graphical user interface.
A selected window displays above other windows much like place a piece of paper on top of a stack on a desk.
The visitors from Apple saw a computer that was designed to be easy to use, a machine that anybody could operate and find friendly...even the French."

Taco you are a prime example of an iTard and this post proves just how blind you are. Lets be honest here the only thing Apple is truly great at is marketing and you have proved just that. They have you so sucked in to what little it is they now have to offer that you are willing to waste your time and everyone else on here with your useless banter. Everyone on here clearly cares very little about what you have to say, so why don't you go back to playing your video games or whatever else it is that you do with your free time that clearly keeps you sheltered to reality. :) iTard
39. tedkord (Posts: 10709; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Yes, they did develop the Super Amoled + tech. They also license ARM processor tech and turn out the Exynos processors, which are generally faster than the competition.
The only part of TouchWIZ that is in any way iPhone-like is the app tray, which looks like iOS main screen a bit. Otherwise, totally different. (And with WinMo, unuseable. But that's a different story)
51. rd_nest (Posts: 1593; Member since: 06 Jun 2010)
No. Apple developed Super AMOLED. When Jobs was sleeping, Samsung's Lee Jae-yong stole the display under the bed of Jobs and put that into Galaxy. I saw that personally. I told Jobs to call the police. Stupid thing, there was no connection in the iPhone. He was holding it wrong.
53. Johnny_Mnemonic (Posts: 240; Member since: 05 Oct 2011)
Good one rd holding it wrong jajajajajajaja
23. taz89 (Posts: 2014; Member since: 03 May 2011)
and i can see lots of copies with apple but of course you will deny as usual
35. ph00ny (Posts: 1201; Member since: 26 May 2011)
Screen, nand, memory, SoC
They do hold a ton of wireless and power management patents. Also that antennae switching patent that apple is now using on iphone 4s
40. tedkord (Posts: 10709; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Correction - that antenna switching patent that Apple is now stealing without license.
43. rd_nest (Posts: 1593; Member since: 06 Jun 2010)
Apple actually stole the iphone name. Forget about the actual product, they couldn't find a different name. WOW!!
Anyway's are you the long lost illegitimate son of Jobs? There were a few rumors going around regarding this.

Everything inside iphone except screen, glass and case
Or are you that dumb to have forgotten? Don't you have HDTVs at home?

super amoled +

What did APPLE innovate with the iphone - a rectangle-shaped with a button on the lower portion of the screen?
Cut and paste?
itunes - maybe it was itunes?
I tell you, APPLE may not innovate, but they do market it that way and people fall for it....
47. rd_nest (Posts: 1593; Member since: 06 Jun 2010)
Did he really...
That can't be true.
I hope you are doing fine. Are you able to walk properly now?

Rd I think taco is not doing well he liked it cause he won't stop talking about how great the iPhone fills he's hand.

Great Job Sammy. Amazing screens and processors... Now if you could perfect you call quality/antennas, battery, and use nicer materials I would definitely join the party.
11. sarb009 (Posts: 307; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
have u ever owned a samung mobile ?? u troll. u are the only person complaining abt call quality and antennas of samung. if u don´t like samsung then buy a double price iphone with half of functionality or simply f**k urself
20. bolaG (Posts: 468; Member since: 15 Aug 2011)
Actually yeah I have owned and used a plethora of Samsung phones. I'm currently using a Samsung Rouge btw while I wait for the Moto Razor to come out. I actually don't care much for Iphones cause they don't meet my needs. Its funny and kind of sad that you take my constructive criticism on Samsung phones as a personal attack on your-self. Have you changed your tampon today?
32. networkdood (Posts: 6330; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
Battery? Last 24-36 hrs. with my captivate.
Call quality - wife says it is better than the 3GS and no one complains of it on the other end.
Antenna - I get 4-5 bars at home - the best of any phone owned since 2005.
Nice materials? The back of the captivate is awesome.
The screen still looks shiny and new as it did in July 2010....no scratches.
41. bolaG (Posts: 468; Member since: 15 Aug 2011)
My experience and that of many others I've talk to has not been such. My brother in law has a Galaxy S and gets pretty bad battery life. He has 20% left after 6hrs of moderate use. When standing at the same spot with my old g droid as my friend who owns a galaxy s I'm with 3 bars while he's galaxy is trying to just maintain a signal. The materials they use are undeniably cheap; plastic, plastic, with a little more plastic.
None the less I'm glad your experience with them has been a good one. I dont deslike Samsung, I just rather use other manufactures.
79. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
i would say your brother leaves his apps running in the background if his battery life is so bad.
I didnt have bad battery life until a cell in my battery went bad. until then 24-36 hrs was normal with moderately heavy use on my SGS1. a quick battery swap when the cell died and i was back in business.
same as ND,
I've owned my vibrant since launch day. zero non user created issues (i love XDA lol). exellent battery life. its been dropped and thrown and doesnt have a single scratch on it.
People that diss samsung's build quality on its HIGH END flagship phones, have no idea what they are talking about. No HTC or iPhone with their "premium materials" like metal and glass could ever go through what my galaxy has been through and still look as good.
You can keep your "premium" bull crap, ill take well made and durable.
84. bolaG (Posts: 468; Member since: 15 Aug 2011)
The poor battery life could be user caused so I'll give you that. The reception is still debatable but through the test I performed the motos came out on top.
The only thing that cant be debated is the quality of materials. No way can you say metal(steel and aluminum), Kevlar, gorilla glass is inferior to "high quality" plastic. I mean seriously remixfa you actually prefer a plastic feel over metal? I just cant believe that...
And my og droid was primium, well made, and durable BTW
42. tedkord (Posts: 10709; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
If you get better signal at home than your wife's iPhone, you're probably holding it right, she's holding it wrong. You should show her how you hold your phone.

Do you want in on mine and Remix's bet? Samsung vs Apple Q1 total smartphone sales. If Samsung sells more I leave PA forever. If Apple wins Remix leaves forever. I'd love to get rid of you too. Do you want in on the bet?
33. networkdood (Posts: 6330; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
Hmmm, I believe APPLE will win, but Samsung will still sell alot. There is room for the two companies on the marketplace.
38. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
I agree with your comment ndood. The reason this challenge happened is remix said he would bet his paycheck that Samsung outsells Apple. Every other month he predicts the demise of Apple. I just asked him to put his money where his mouth is. He will be gone from PA soon.
72. Jillsandwich (Posts: 62; Member since: 24 Oct 2011)
Betting on an anonymous medium like the internet where promises count for s**t. Really, Taco?
That's about as dramatic as someone unplugging the TV and just leaving it there while they ground you from said TV.
76. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Well the alternative is he goes back on his word and stays. That's why I didn't want to bet money. This way he's guaranteed to look like a fool either way.
Win/win for me

lol, your a bigger moron every day.. thats why i lubs you soo much.
81. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
This last quarter.. Q3, Samsung took over apple as top sales dog.
In Q4, apple will win again on the back of the i4s.
In Q1 2012 samsung will take back over again. With the launch of the american SGS2, world wide nexus prime, note, and maybe SGS2-HD (which may have ICS) all launching late Q4 into Q1-2012, samsung is going to have the upper hand on sales momentum.
By the end of Q1 2012, the i4s will be close to 6 months old and be even more irrelevant than now.. especially since the i5 rumors will probably start heating up in January again. After the initial i4s sales bump, i think the only thing thats going to keep apple's numbers propped up is the free 3GS and really cheap (if not free on a sale) i4.
Right now they are pretty much neck n neck for sales.. whoever pops out the best new devices per quarter is going to have the advantage... which for Q1 2012, is going to be samsung.
Especially if stores put the nexus right beside the i4s... lol.
Oh they will both sell a lot, but I'll be doing the boards a favor by having taco ban himself.
Of course, knowing him he will just make a new account name.. maybe burrito50.. lol.
87. networkdood (Posts: 6330; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
OHHHHHHHHHHH!! Total Samsung vs APPLE in terms of smrtaphones?? Hmmm, that may be a tough call...the iphone 3GS may put APPLE over the top.
7. arcq12 (Posts: 733; Member since: 13 Oct 2011)
i think this is pretty good considering that theres a lot of manufacturers who sells android phones..
