Hell yea. going from motorola droid x to a galaxy nexus was like getting set free. I'll never settle for locked bootloader bullsh*t ever again.
2. MorePhonesThanNeeded posted on 20 Jan 2012, 07:36 8 5
I prefer Motorola over all the other companies, while they don't have the most cutting edge of phones, their phones are built freaking tough. I don't trust HTC's phones too much as they all look too plastic like and Samsung which are always packed with the latest and greatest but for some reason their high profile phones tend to take a backseat to Galaxy S line...Charge anyone?!? I'm basing this off the high profile line up of phones I used on Verizon, and Motorola's are the most solidly built and they feel like it in your hand and going odd the amount of times my X has met the concrete and has very little in the way of scratches and no problems tells it's own story. Now someone get Verizon to stop adding useless crap to my phone that I have zero need of, that crap is the reason why software tends to be slightly unstable and needs updating to fix.

"while (Motorola) they don't have the most cutting edge of phones" ??
I disagree . . . on this. The RAZR is one of the best smartphones available with innovative technology and style. And like you pointed out they're tough and work. Also, Motorola stands behind the devices and updates models more than any other manufacturer.
12. PimpStrong posted on 20 Jan 2012, 08:15 9 1
Die hard Samsung fan here. Motorola is the only other maker I would think about going with. They have come a LOONG way since the OG Cliq and its blurry s**t.
19. Tux4g63 posted on 20 Jan 2012, 08:51 5 2
Couldn't agree more. They have come a long way and I like the build quality, durability, and software updates to there handsets.
29. remixfa posted on 20 Jan 2012, 10:21 6 0
the RAZR is most definitely one of the best phones right now.
It most definitely is supposedly tough...er.. than normal.
Moto has among the WORST track records for updates though. Dont kid your self on that one.
Moto is coming back around. I hope it will be a good year for them. They obviously made some deals with samsung to get Super Amoled screens which was awesome and the Ti Chipset is second only to samsung's exynos. So basically its an "almost samsung" with Blur on it. Fine by me.
41. Jimstar posted on 20 Jan 2012, 13:03 3 1
i think not. It took months longer for any of the Galaxy S devices and and most contemporary HTCs to get GB. Moto is easily the most reliable when it comes to updates. At least within the US.
52. KingKurogiii posted on 20 Jan 2012, 17:04 1 1
Motorola actually is pretty great with updates. most people seem to get this.
now if only Samsung could get to "almost-Moto" in build quality i'd consider taking one harder.
59. remixfa posted on 21 Jan 2012, 04:17 0 0
moto is great with updates.. if you have a VZW droid device. outside of that they are so-so at best. NONE of the manufacturers are great at updates. There was an "update graph" on the site a few months back and it had moto in last place for over all updates.
Jimstar,
The SGS updates took longer because they had to go through the carriers. The world version galaxyS got its 2.2 and 2.3 updates rather quickly comparitively.. by like 6 months +
62. KingKurogiii posted on 21 Jan 2012, 22:35 0 0
really all Moto seems to matter on now-a-days is Verizon anyway, it's a shame but it's true and besides Moto just doesn't make as many handsets as other manufacturers and they're just not as big as Samsung and HTC in other parts of the world. here in the US Moto has done a good job updating their handsets. they're usually always first with getting a major Android update on a handset after the SWV's launching handset with the exception of Froyo because Froyo didn't come out with a launch handset but Moto did launch the first handset with Froyo pre-loaded, the Droid 2.

Haha yea... sure, Maybe stateside but in europe its totally diffrent,
I own a Soe Arc, SG2, and a Xoom tablet.
Sony is the one with the best and fastest updates, then samsung but man,
Motorola lied to us euro customers about the whole GED thing. + it took us like what half a year after the americans to get 3.2.
Ps. The Xoom also makes noices and flex when i press the upper right corner. Quality my Az.

HTC is ALL plastic dude. Just because they make it feel thick and heavy doesn't mean it isn't. They just make the plastic thick.

You don't know what you're talking about. The Desire/Inspire, Hero S/Evo View 4G, have aluminum bodies.
63. KingKurogiii posted on 21 Jan 2012, 22:39 1 0
not to mention the Sensation. HTC does hits and misses on build quality but they experiment and that's a good thing.
28. bigdawg23 posted on 20 Jan 2012, 10:14 2 0
Both the Droid Bionic and Droid Razr are excellent phones with good technology on them.
I have owned several Motorola(Droid, Droid X,Atrix), but didn't care for Motoblur. Have had HTC(G2, Vivid), I really like the G2 but left for AT&T because of bad service. It was AOSP OS. Lastly I have the SGS2 Skyrocket and TouchWiz is nice compared to the others IMHO.
My guess is that Samsung being easily rooted and rom'd since they don't like the bootloader elevates them.
46. sgogeta4 posted on 20 Jan 2012, 15:56 3 0
While Motorola definitely has solidly built phones and lots of experience with phone technology, I prefer Samsung because they have the hardware and software experience to make better overall smartphones. They have joint ventures with Corning (Gorilla glass), their own chipset manufacturing plant, massive experience with TVs, software developers such as the CyanogenMod team, and many others that make their phones more desirable in day to day use.

i think Motorola needs a big hit for T-Mobile. they used to be closer than what they are now. they even got to sell Moto's FIRST Android device.
21. PimpStrong posted on 20 Jan 2012, 09:35 2 0

yea, and now they are giving us the 2nd class shyt. SGS2 with no exynos... no 3d phones.. wtf!
no, i know its tmobile making those stupid plays as they have final call on what to put on the shelves. We still have the greatest over all selection of android phones on any manufacturer... and most definitely at the right price. Just wish we had a few alternate sets.. but i guess everyone feels that way about their carrier at one point or another. lol
37. PimpStrong posted on 20 Jan 2012, 11:40 0 0
Shoooot nobody on VZW feels that way about phone selection! LOL They are like the grocery store for Androids. But yeah I think TMO may just not want to spend the money to get the wider selection of phones. Namely on the higher end.
I don't care about non of that tho since I'm rocking the only phone I want for right now!
53. KingKurogiii posted on 20 Jan 2012, 17:08 0 0

@SleepingOz
How did you know that I'm a SE Fan and I didnt even mention it? And come on cheap guy, Xperia phones look better than your Crapsung phone. Specs that Crapsung brags are inexistent in real life that it wont even make a difference compared to other phones so stop fooling yourselves about Crapsung being the best Android maker. They just suck. End of story.
26. SleepingOz posted on 20 Jan 2012, 09:51 3 1

Dude, no need to mention it, your name says it all!
ahahahahahah how ironic, the only person fooling himself here, is you. If they're inexistent in real life, Samsung wouldn't be FIRST IN REAL LIFE! You just proved to everyone here that you're biased and really in denial, as in denial as your beloved i sheep friends.
31. remixfa posted on 20 Jan 2012, 10:28 5 3
your an idiot.
samsung phones are leagues above the others when it comes to hardware. there is samsung in first place.. and then there is everyone else, in samsung's dust.
My nearly 2 year old SGS1 is running ICS 4.0.3 flawlessly. Having that massive GPU on top of the best single core chip really helps ICS explode. I was impressed with how well it ran older versions of android.. but now with hardware acceleration the thing is flying. I'll put its smoothness up against the iphone. Thats how nice it is.
I cant wait to get my hands on an ICS infused SGS3. Who would want anything less?
You talk about "build quality & specs". Samsung has both. Build quality is how its made, not if its made out of glass or plastic. Samsung phones can take abuse better than most any other phone out there that isnt millitary spec. Why do u think they put the HUGE SGS2 against that little iphone in drop tests? If they were both built to the same standards, the SGS2 should smash first every time since its bigger and should vibrate more. But it doesnt. It wins every time. Why? Because its build quality is PHENOMENAL.

If Motorola makes the next Nexus, it'll end up with a normal LCD (TFT) display.
47. sgogeta4 posted on 20 Jan 2012, 16:01 1 1
IPS LCD/LED panels and backlight are nearing their maximum potential but are still excellent choices for screens and IMO currently on par or still better than AMOLED technology. AMOLED has lots of potential to be better than LCD/LEDs and will continue to improve but there is still a large amount resources needed before AMOLED reaches past this point.
50. Muhannad posted on 20 Jan 2012, 16:05 0 1
True, I personally prefer IPS LCDs, high contrast ratio coupled with good brightness levels.

Funny the reasons why some people choose certain brands. If you think samsung phones are cheap and not tuff try the phoneshops. You will be suprised you wont see a samsung device there. They look cheap no doubt but are twice as tuff as ur tuff phone. It depends on the user and how you use your phone.

38. PimpStrong posted on 20 Jan 2012, 11:48 1 0
Nice. BUT we're talkin ICS and a 720p SuperAMOLED screen which offsets that a bit.
25. snowgator posted on 20 Jan 2012, 09:42 0 0
Each carrier having a version of the GS2 and Samsung's mid tier offerings make this an easy win for them. They have choices at all price points on all carriers, and once you decide on Android you will have a Sammy as an option. I think Moto is my favorite for Androids as well as a lot of other posters, but I can see why Samsung is top dawg in the pound.
34. krysis posted on 20 Jan 2012, 10:45 0 0
it's probably due to the fact that the past 2 nexus devices have been made by samsung.
35. dorfoz posted on 20 Jan 2012, 10:59 1 3
Lol Samsung? I'd rather have HTC, Motorola, Sony or LG. They're consistent on their OS updates-- and they don't lie. Perhaps the reason why they're popular cuz they're sitting on ICS with the Gnexus and are used as flagship phones of the carriers. In addition, Samsung makes a crap ton more android phones for cheap hence the public may purchase if they can't afford a premium ($200+) smartphone.
36. itzmando posted on 20 Jan 2012, 11:21 2 1
As much as I love my Galaxy Nexus, Samsung does in fact have radio problems, holding a bar of reception is very difficult. My moto Droid 2 Global was great with reception and very durable for a phone that had no case. I already dropped my GN :O and already has bezel scratches even with thick rubber case so material quality isnt that great.
Also the fortified glass Samsung claims isnt that strong, I forgot my keys were in my pocket when I put my phone away in the same pocket, and quickly pulled it out and already has a few scratches. Really wished they somehow made the curved glass gorilla glass.
49. sgogeta4 posted on 20 Jan 2012, 16:04 2 0
Update your radio and you'll get those extra imaginary bars that other phones have. My reception in areas of poor coverage are much better than my Motorola Droid. I will admit that the Motorola is built like a tank but the GN is just as tough from my usage. They have a joint venture with Corning, the company that makes Gorilla glass, so I doubt that they have anything that is less than the product that they sell to competitors.
58. itzmando posted on 21 Jan 2012, 00:50 1 0
Since I am located in a 4G area San Diego, CA(college) I get as high as 3 bars, and my GN tends to freeze when communicating with towers, web pages just do not load. Not sure if its software or hardware.
My bezel is scratched due to the strange angle when it was knocked out of my hand and the rubber case was pulled back since it fell against a cement bench edge. I was very bummed with the nicks, and the 3 scratches already seen on the screen by my key incident worries how durable it really is.
I guess it all depends on the batch of GN, since I apparently have a faulty one, since reception is poor, along with wifi connectivity. Already gone to VZW but they said they cannot do anything.
39. doubler86 posted on 20 Jan 2012, 12:45 0 0
I've had 3 smartphones. The Moto Droid one, the Samsung Droid Charge and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. One thing that I'm certain of is that I can't ever go away from a AMOLED screen after having one. They are just so amazing and you can see them out in the Sunlight no problem. I do like the Razr too, but I think if it hadn't had the AMOLED screen it wouldn't have been nearly as popular. I really feel the key to Android's success will be through Samsung Hardware and Google Software. Moto will always remain at the top as well of course because of the merger, and HTC and LG will continue to be at the back end at this point.
I do find it amazing though too.
2010 HTC was the best and Samsung sucked.
2011 Samsung was the best and HTC sucked.
