Samsung loses global smartphone market share in the first quarter of 2014

0. phoneArena 29 Apr 2014, 00:44 posted on

Research firm Strategy Analytics released its latest global market share figures on Tuesday. On top remained Samsung, with 31.2% of the world-wide smartphone market at the end of the first quarter. That figure is down from the 32.4% that Sammy earned last year. Behind the Korean based Samsung for the January through March period was Apple. The iPhone manufacturer saw its Q1 market share decline from 17.5% last year to 15.3% this year...

Not looking all too good for Apple...

BTW, the Phone Arena website is very glitchy and frustrating on Chrome Mobile ¦(

Especially the popup ad that's impossible to close unless zoomed all the way out. I have to view the site using the stock Android browser on my HTC One and Dolphin on my Moto all of which seem to be glitch free when it comes to this site.

Anyhow, it seems as if anyone who wants an iPhone already has one and are just waiting for the next version which may coincide with a renewed contract. I wouldn't write Apple off. Now Lenovo is somewhat of a surprise and I'm hoping that they'll make the Motorola brand even stronger like they did with the ThinkPad line.

Download a 3rd party app for PA , since PA itself is incapable of delivering a decent app.

Samsung is going to start to decline. Galaxy Grand look-like design for most devices made people tired and start to look at another design.

This is the first quarter.

The second quarter will see a definite increase due to the Galaxy S5.
and if they apply their "new form factor" successfully for the Galaxy Note 4 Q4 and 2014 Q1 will be Samsung dominant.

Its because the market is getting saturated and the chinese brands who are offering much better bang for buck AT lower-mid range phones.

Samsung on the other hand, is turning into a premium brand that's why their galaxy S sales are higher and more than any android ever sold. And every Galaxy S outsells previous generation. They've even sold 200 million Galaxy S:http://www.engadget.com/2014/02/24/samsung-has-sold-more-than-200-million-galaxy-smartphones/

It not because of design (which are subjective). People prefer removable battery, better updates and an excellent global customer service.

Wrong.. They sales are not declining, their overall market share decreased.

2013 Q1 -- > 69.4M
2014 Q1 -- > 89M

Increase of 20M in a year. Just this increase is more than Nokia + HTC combined sales in a Q. That's how large it is.
Infact the difference between 1st and 2nd place is even greater now.

What has changed is that there are many smaller companies which are selling decent phones at very cheap prices. As such the overall marketshare percentage has decreased. Even after that, it's more than 30% of marketshare, way above anyone else can even think.

Let's get one with straight with people that compare Samsung to HTC: HTC never was, and never will be 1 tenth of the company Samsung is, so let's stop predicting some kind of imaginative downfall because we all know that ain't happening any time soon.

? HTC was never had this much market and samsung (and apple) went down due to no one really wanting to upgrade. But samsugns share probably went up now that the gs5 is out.
