Samsung knows its software is weak, looks to improve through acquisition

0. phoneArena 08 Oct 2013, 18:35 posted on

The only way to get better is to admit you have a problem. It looks like Samsung is ready to admit that it has a problem with software. The company feels confident in its hardware capabilities, but it wants some help to beef up its software offerings. One big part of that plan was to purchase Waze, but Google won that bid. But according to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung is still looking to make purchases...

Next year: Better software, metal devices and improvements in almost every aspect. Unlike Apple Samsung actually will change their phones and dump tons of money into research.

come on,
samsung is a money oriented company. There is no innovation in their products. never has. will never have.

Oh, shut up meg!
Every company is money oriented. Samsung spends more money on R&D than HTC and Apple, every year!

Obviously, Samsung has more money than HTC, Samsung's Marketing budget is more than HTC's R&D. Apple doesn't want to innovate coz dumb people still buying their phones. then why wasting money on R&D ? Samsung and Apple are big fat corporations. Samsung is investing more on marketing and gimmicky software features. they do have the potential, unforunately they aren't the game changers in this industry.

apple also spends money on R&D hunting for good software companies . that mean it is apple's software is weak?
why iphonearena keep sayin' samsung software is weak?
WSJ they just talking about Samsung is looking at a wide variety of software companies ..just like other companies do . but iphonearena keep sayin'
"Samsung knows its software is weak"
"Samsung obviously wants to get rid of its weakness in software"

i think Samsung knows its PA is weak
i think Samsung obviously wants to get rid of its weakness in PA

looking for good software companies It doesn't mean that samsung's software is weak

If they just left Android alone they wouldn't have an issue.

Exactly. Their flaw is not because their software is lacking, it has too much useless graphical trash added on top of a clean UI.

For a company to admit about a major software flaw is a major step in the right direction. Samsung can redo their software appearance, but not make it so bloatware heavy that it affects the performance of the phone. This is what the future of smartphone may turn to with the evolution of a manufacturer's software like TouchWiz, Moto, and others

I think everyone wants Quality, Integration, Simplicity, and Convenience. So is "Eye Scroll" all of that? It's not simple or of Quality. "Samsung Apps" is redundant and not very convenient. "Touch Wiz" is just not very Simple for the average user.

I think that HTC learned their lesson, and although the HTC ONE was not a huge seller, It is a step in the right direction. Samsung's approach seems to be the "wow factor", but really, in the end, people are looking for lasting Quality, Integration, Simplicity, and Convenience.

The quality will be fixed next year. The S5 will be made out of metal with a new design no doubt.

This is good for Samsung.

Unify TW style. Dispose of all the nature UX crap and make TW look modern but distinct enough from metro/ios7/holo. Most importantly, make it optimized.

touchwiz home is getting really improved ..now I am with touchwiz home instead of any launchers.
4.2.2 touchwiz home is very neat , fluid , fast.
Transparent notification bar ..wheather widget..everything simply awsome..
Its getting better.. battery also so far best with samsung compare to sony especially

Aye, the TW launcher itself is very good. I even flashed the GS4 one ob my GS3. But it - as well as the rest of the ui - need a modern facelift.

Optimization is the key, helping that normally strong hardware feel like the premium silicon that it is. You may not like the Nature UI but I don't mind it and it certainly isn't detrimental to the user experience. Just make it smooth, problem free because the features are already there

Phew! Okay, because theyre acquiring theyre admitting theyre weak? Lol. Its like saying Google is really weak since they have acquired a lot. This is just another one sided view. What Samsung is doing? They are trying to up their game on the software side to offer us - the customers, great experience. After all, its the competition that will benefit right? And we love competition, so why bash it?
