Samsung flaunts its powerful but frugal 32nm Exynos line, WQXGA mobile display chewed for breakfast

Samsung Electronics was kind enough to invite us at its Exynos 5250 presentation, where the company's first multicore Cortex-A15 processor was chillaxing in the corner, powering an anorexic screen with the monster 2560x1600 pixels of resolution...

Bring on the quad! One request to samsung though. . . Make phones that are Aesthetically pleasing (damn good design) please. . .

When you here things like
- Quad Core
- 2GHz CPU
- Powerful Mali GPU
- Maybe 1.5GB RAM
- Higher Pixel Resolution
You feel powerful, because there is a big potential. A spec like that can achieve unimaginable potential. It's like having a Ferrari.
Is this your main purchasing point?

Good Screen, Fast and smooth as butter UI & low power consumption/ long battery life. An attractive/sexy design is a bonus though. . .

People bought the new iPad based off of
- Dual Core Processor
- Quad Core GPU
- High Pixel Resolution
- "4G"
People buy whatever sounds best, regardless of research and what it can do, with those specs this tablet should be somewhat resistant to being outdated for at least a little while

i think samsung can take the crown from apple, as long as they bring out nice looking phones, power and screens are in samsungs corner now, but dammit stay away from the plastic store and start shopping somewhere else and create artwork...HTC designs + Samsung tech = a true iphone competitor.

In my view A Sony design + Samsung tech = Techgasm.

Screens are not in samsungs corner, maybe power but screens are not, at least yet. Anyhow It's great thing to see the potential with A-15 quad's and mali T-658 GPU, add 2 gigs of ram and sweeet 10+ inch screen(I prefer IPS LCD because of realistic colors) and you have a winner combination

who makes a better screen than samsung exactly? they have the best screens and the best chips. period.
17. Guest_star posted on 01 Feb 2012, 09:38 0 6
Why LG ofc...they are holding back on OLED's because they aren't as perfect as samsung lead you to beleawe they are, there is a reason why LG is the biggest display manufacturer in the world and that's because they know what they are doing. When they release OLED screen then I'll buy one before that i highly doubt that i will buy samsungs OLED
19. ph00ny posted on 01 Feb 2012, 10:02 6 0
You make it sound as if non-OLED screens are perfect. Also there is a good reason why OLED is considered the next big thing in TV market and that includes LG and Sony
20. Guest_star posted on 01 Feb 2012, 10:23 2 2
yes they are the next best thing but for now they still need to be perfected to become the best, I didn't say that non OLED's are perfect, on the contrary, they have many flaws but they are more easily fixable, because LCD are much older tech and scientist and engineers had time to work on these flaws, I am aware of the fact that OLED's are the next big thing but for the time being they are not perfect as LCD can be, but that's just my opinion and I could be wrong...
29. ph00ny posted on 02 Feb 2012, 07:11 1 0
You just can't fix the backlight drawbacks with LCD and that's exactly what OLED tech addresses. Biggest drawback of any LCD tech
30. Guest_star posted on 02 Feb 2012, 07:28 0 1
What drawback's are you refering to? They can't be thiner than OLED, and they are equal power consumer's(talking about modern IPS LCD's, normal LCD's consume more power), but everithing else can be achived with LCD, wide viewing angles, even deep blacks if you use dimmed backlight which is the case with this samsung screen, it uses dimmed backlight to make deep black's and in profesional monitors they use RGB backlight that is even better, I just hope they will be able to make mobile/tablet screen with RGB backlight. OLED's may have better response time and that's about it...Don't get me wrong I like OLED screens very much I just don't think that they are good as we are lead to beleave, they still need to work on them but they are getting there

Best Amoled screen = Samsung (HD Super Amoled)
Best LCD screen = LG (HD AHS-IPS LCD)
Just my personal view.
23. remixfa posted on 01 Feb 2012, 12:11 4 1
LG definately makes the best non-amoled screens. Samsung makes by far the best S-Amoled screens. to me amoled is superior to LCD for phone use, so samsung wins.
BTW, they are bringing out large screened Amoled tv's this year.. and they are incredible looking...
and ungodly expensive.. lol
BTW, size of operations and quality of product are not directly correlated. What's better? A hyundai elantra or a BMW 5 series? The hyundai sells much better.
28. XiphiasGladius posted on 02 Feb 2012, 02:18 1 0
I don't own a phone that is of the Amoled variety right now, but my workmates do (N8, SGS2, GNote) and I have to say they are really pleasing to the eye compared to my phone which is of the LCD variety (R-Display w/ MBE) Amoleds has superior sunlight legibility and viewing angles.
LG's OLED TV and Samsung OLED TV is by far very advanced compared to the competition especially the 55" TV that LG showcased in CES wich won in overall category (sorry Forgot the model name). The price though is agreeably damn expensive for most people. . .

hubba hubba hubba.
personally, i like the samsung design cues. they are understated so that way whenever you turn the screen on, you only see the screen, which is the real prize.. not some tin lining the phone.
anyone else notice that they have the 4212 clocked at 1.5ghz and the 4210 clocked at 1.2ghz (current SGS2), yet it still beat the 4210 by 30% in power consumption? :) and thats just a die shrunk A9 core. show some more of the 5xxxx baaaybee! :)

I admit, Samsung phones' specs are humongus. Its just that they have a bad taste in terms of design. Their phones look cheap in every way.
12. XiphiasGladius posted on 01 Feb 2012, 09:08 2 0
That is also the my only gripe, that non attractive (in my personal view) design.
31. Gdrye posted on 03 Feb 2012, 10:06 0 0
and i agree, they are really missing boat here, they have the tech, hell they have the advertisement with the new commercials..if someone just slaps somebody there and say "hey, lets actually make our phones look good" then samsung will be the one to beat
14. iamcc posted on 01 Feb 2012, 09:26 5 2
I have to disagree. Maybe i'm just biased because I own a GN but I really think the phone looks great.
I know a lot of people feel the plastic makes it look cheap and I just don't see it. Maybe because the hearing aids I fit all day are $6,000-7,000 and made mostly of plastic haha
16. XiphiasGladius posted on 01 Feb 2012, 09:35 1 0
I don't care whether it is made out of plastic, metal, or glass (though easily breaks) as long as it is pleasing to my eyes I wont complain. . .

5250 + Mali-604 + 4.7" Super Amoled HD screen + ICS + Sony Design + HTC build quality = iWho?
21. Zayuh24 posted on 01 Feb 2012, 10:51 0 0
If they can put all of these specs into a godly tablet priced at around $400, maybe $450 to bite the competition in the *rear, I'd definitely buy one. No questions asked.
