Samsung executive confirms that U.S. variant of Samsung Galaxy S III will feature dual-core CPU

0. phoneArena 26 Apr 2012, 20:02 posted on

An unnamed Samsung executive confirms what we feared last night when the Korean manufacturer said that the Samsung Galaxy S III would be the first device with quad-core 1.4GHz Exynos processor under the hood; the executive said that in the U.S., a dual-core Qualcomm CPU will be used...

which means the S3 will go down the toilet because no one in their right mind is going to spend the money to upgrade from the S2 to a nearly identical S3. They might as well skip the US and move onto the next phone because without the highly anticipated quad core it won't sell. Save your money Samsung and just scrap the US edition.

No! Don't skip the US. If reports are correct, Verizon will finally get their Galaxy S phone. It's unfortunate it took this long, though, and even more unfortunate that it's only a Galaxy SII S.

S3 even with dual core is no way nearly identical to the s2...for one it will have a hd screen, slimmer, bigger battery etc and the CPU are.no.way similar...if you know anything about CPU you will know.that the s4 is 28nm where as the s2 is 45nm..that means the s4 is much much faster and power efficient and you do know that the s4 is more.powerful that. The quad core tegra 3...cores are not the whole pic, there is lot.more.that makes a good CPU.

Lol..
Listen to Taz89..

You may be right that sales will diminish in general because it can't be advertised as quad core in US markets, but to say that no one in their right mind would buy it for that reason is quite ironic.
Smartphone Tech sites should be the niche that understands exactly why it is so, but even here only a few seem to understand there isn't a significant, if any, loss of power, not to mention power versus consumption ratio.

I mean lol I would understand maybe the general public just thinking more cores mean better but not people.actually that co
E to these sites etc...expected them to maybe have a not more knowledge than to say hey its dual core that's means.it not good because its the same as last year...

I don't think anyone is saying it's the same as last year. The big deal is that the processor is what makes Samsung flagship phones stand apart. There will be numerous phones available with the S4. Aside from the display, what makes the GSIII any better than the announced competing flagship phones from other companies?

Yeah, Taz89 cracks me up ;-) Give him time. At least he/she is passionate.- What I said was Galaxy S2 owners won't upgrade. There are two factors behind that assumption. 1. The S2 is so new no one qualifies for subsidies yet, and 2. with only a minor display upgrade few will shell out full ticket price out of their own pocket.

Sure, the new phone user walking into a store may buy it, but the loyal fan base who JUST bought an S2 months ago will not upgrade. US sales will be disappointing and that is what I predict will be the headline of a soon to come article.

Heck, I switched carriers to get the S2 (My moniker needs to be changed) so knowing Europe gets quad core and we get crapdragon is kind of insulting.

Leaning toward Htc one x anyways. Still interest in seeing the design though.

Ughhhh what a way to ruin a super phone. Anyway what's the point of having unlimited LTE on at&t if your speed will be reduced at 5gb on lte and 3gb on hspa. So yeah its like having a Ferrari with a Fiero engine on it. I prefer to buy the EU version and swap my sim on it as I did with the HTC one X.

Pity, that quad core Exynos would've been the only thing that might have torn me away from the EVO LTE... Well, looks like my decision is officially made. Sorry Sammy, but I'm staying with HTC on this one, maybe next time

Thanks for making a point for me. Without the quad core, many people will wait and see what the next model is before switching phones.

I hope so.. this announcement is depressing. They could've at least used a dual-core Exynos. Instead, they used the same processor that will be in every other manufacturer's flagship. So much for standing out from the herd.

This is a disappointment unless its the Exynos 5250.

Well that's disappointing. I was torn on getting the EVO 4G LTE and sticking with Sprint, or getting out of Sprint and getting a S3.

Guess I'm sticking with Sprint then.
