Samsung announces winner of Smart App contest 2013 for the Samsung Galaxy S4
Last week, Samsung announced the winner of the Samsung Smart App contest 2013 for the Samsung Galaxy S4. The contest, which ran from May 13 to August 31, was designed to find innovative and creative apps that use the Chord SDK. This enables multiple devices to connect via a Peer-to-Peer process instead of connecting using a server.

Samsung selected one first place winner, three runner-ups and six third place finalists. This was no slouch of a contest with the grand prize winner taking home $200,000. The second and third place finishers each received $100,000 and $50,000 respectively. Each  first, second and third place finisher will also receive marketing benefits from the Korean OEM.

The first place app is a flicking game from Russia called "Dots Out" that apparently won over the judges. The game is designed for players of all ages and is said to require "courage, quick thinking and good strategy skills". The winning teams will be headed to Barcelona in February to attend MWC 2014 and will receive their awards on Samsung Developer Day. The winners will get to promote their apps at the Samsung Electronics Pavilion at MWC 2014 and will try to attract some investment money from the Samsung Venture Investment Corporation. Check out the slideshow below to see the other apps selected by the judges.

Samsung currently has another Smart Apps contest in progress, for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Sammy says that it has a large number of developers taking part in this battle, although you can still enter this contest until December 31st. Judging will take place during February and March with the winner to be announced in April. To apply, check out the entry form at the sourcelink.
