Samsung announces the Galaxy Gear smartwatch: a companion to your Note 3 for $299

Samsung has finally announced the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch, and we're happy to report that it does not look exactly like the leak we saw last week. The design of the Gear is similar to what we saw, but the bezels are tapered, so it doesn't look quite as big, and what had been a matte plastic, now looks to be a polished chrome finish. There are still the odd screws on the bezel though...

Stevie Wonder would've done a better job at designing a watch; he might've given it some cool retro hair beads and shades. I wouldn't pay $299 for that thing, it would be just like wasting money on the next Apple release. Oh well, I'll have to wait for the iWatch, better upgrade my iToones.

That price point is terrible, otherwise, was a good first attempt.

Wow, that is ugly. A watch now-a-days is supposed to be fashionable and make a statement. And at $299, with looks like those, the only statement you'd be making with it on is that you are a complete sucker.

Now what if your significant other has the device when you least expect it and then you get a message from someone else...I cannot wait to see the fights that will start because of that lol

Only compatible with Galaxy phones; Note 3 now and later updates for the rest really. So I must be running touchwiz to use it then, thanks you can keep it.

My dream smart watch is one that is an actual analog watch with smart features added. Basically it's a regular watch, until you tap on the face which brings up the display. Then when you are done, simply swipe away the screen, and it returns to the normal face.
And ditch the camera/speaker/microphone in the wristband. The camera will just creep out woman, and raising you hand to your head to take a call will creep everyone else out lol.

Nice! $299 is about the right price point too. A decent watch will cost you a few hundred dollars anyway and not have half these capabilities… And people who keep quoting the price of the Nexus 4… Stop! This is not a smart phone!! if you're looking for a smart phone that has these specs you can probably pick up an original droid for about five dollars.:-) but this thing compared to my MotoActv looks so much better, most of the same functionality, and pretty much the same price.

I don't mind this watch other than the fact that it can't stand alone... It's more of an expensive accessory to your phone so in essence it's not that smart. Also the idea that it only works with SS phones tells me SS is too cocky for there own good. Love the features though.

More expensive than Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10!.
