Samsung Galaxy Tabs were returned mostly because of issues, not due to confusion with iPad

0. phoneArena posted on 07 Aug 2012, 09:32

A company shouldn’t be happy when its devices malfunction. But if you’re Samsung, you might actually prefer to hear news about tablet malfunction being most commonly cited as the reason for customer returns…

apple thinks people are too dumb to confuse ipad with galaxy tabs. haha

28. gallitoking posted on 07 Aug 2012, 11:41 10 12

9% did

32. Savage posted on 07 Aug 2012, 11:57 10 5

So you are actually ok with Apple users being dumb enough to mistaken buy a box , on it clearly written SAMSUMG GALAXY TAB 10.1, and mistake it for an iPad?

Where's taco and his 'Apple users are more intelligent and tech-savvy' argument?

42. gallitoking posted on 07 Aug 2012, 12:17 5 9

Apple consumer know how to distinguish an Apple device with the famous Apple logo.. those customers wanted An Apple device at a low price.. so they bought a Samsung device.. that makes them Samsung consumers before Apple.. cheap over beauty..

61. AppleWho (banned) posted on 07 Aug 2012, 13:22

APPLE and low price do not mix - wow....

99. rickywinataa posted on 09 Aug 2012, 08:08

cheap before beauty ? you're saying gtab is cheap & not a beauty. but apple sue gtab for looking the same as iPad. so what is iPad then ? overpriced & not a beauty too ? LOL

39. Owlet posted on 07 Aug 2012, 12:11 8

They didn't confuse it for the iPad. They returned the Tab they didn't like and got an iPad instead, hoping it would suite them better.

44. gallitoking posted on 07 Aug 2012, 12:18 5 7

exactly they went to buy the Apple ipad after the Samsung device was faulty.

48. Owlet posted on 07 Aug 2012, 12:32 1

You just said earlier "9% did" [confuse GTab fot the ipad]. A few minutes later you say they didn't. Do you even sound smart to yourself?

54. gallitoking posted on 07 Aug 2012, 12:59 1 3

did I ever said they were Apple consumers.. nop.. 9% of non Apple consumers bought a Tab thinking was the king of the mountain ipad.. you gotta read everything not just parts and form a story ok. I know is hard but please read everything...

59. protozeloz posted on 07 Aug 2012, 13:18 3 1

WRONG 9% of people who returned the tablet EXCHANGED it for an iPAd

but lets do the math shall we? lets say there have been sold 2,000 galaxy tabs in best buy and lets give Samsung 80% customer satisfaction on that device that means lets say 400 devices where returned not out of those 400 customers 100 had issues 68 had lag and 40 tough HC was hard to use 36 changed it for an iPad (but how many of those though is was an iPad?) 32 couldn't find apps and 24 had speed and performance issue....

if the Galaxy tab satisfaction rate is higher then the numbers I made are even lower

75. gallitoking posted on 07 Aug 2012, 15:55 2 3

proto why argue with me just report me. since that is what you do.. besides I prove you wrong on the ipad market share..

76. doublehammer posted on 07 Aug 2012, 16:02 3 1

considering many of the main people on this site that disagree with you and taco are missing for a week, it doesnt look like protozeloz is the one reporting everyone.

80. protozeloz posted on 07 Aug 2012, 16:07 2 2

I report people, specially when they go overboard

83. gallitoking posted on 07 Aug 2012, 17:07 3 3

is cool you cant please everyone..

79. protozeloz posted on 07 Aug 2012, 16:05 2 2

I proved wrong on the ICS not being "half baked" or iPhone 4S not being the one you claimed to be (remember the different from factor being tested on trains you where amazed at? I'm still waiting for it) among others, plus I already clicked the report button.

53. alisafaei posted on 07 Aug 2012, 12:52 5 1

that only means that people might have thought that apple was a better route to go after using it. that 9% doesn't mean they confused it for it.

81. Hunt3rj2 posted on 07 Aug 2012, 16:30 1 1

No, 9% heard about a tablet but didn't care about what tablet they had until they got one, at which point they wanted a white one from Apple with lots of geebees.

71. Smokn04cobra posted on 07 Aug 2012, 14:20

I agree with what I think you are trying to say, but the above comment is saying that "apple things people are excessively stupid and that they won't confuse the galaxy tab and ipad."

Did you mean to say, "apple thinks people are so dumb they will confuse the ipad and galaxy tab."?

As far as the article and return reasons, people just don't know how to use a touch screen and bitch because they can't interact with it properly. The browser troubles, ok...I can see that even though I have none. I had a live wallpaper and my screen is fine and otherwise all the other issues are user error or people expecting perfection. And my netflix app is awesome

82. Angkor posted on 07 Aug 2012, 16:40 1 1

Apple hired people to buy to Tab and return it as confused with iPad. Four years until now people confused is a scam by Apple during the trials. Four years until now Apple is on trials for Galaxy S was similarity to iPhone, it is anti-Samsung not on other phone makers. What is a waste of money and innovations.

2. talon95 posted on 07 Aug 2012, 09:42 12 2

I've said it before, if you walk up and pay $450 for a box that says Samsung on it, you would expect Samsung inside the box as well. If you don't even know what you're buying then you have bigger issues.

10. andro. posted on 07 Aug 2012, 10:02 4 2

yeh the galaxy tab boxes quite clearly are labelled 'GALAXY TAB 10.1' quite clearly labelled 'SAMSUNG' and quite clearly have 'www.samsung.com' in yellow banners all around the box.
Although it is through that many ifans certainly have 'bigger issues' lol

12. neutralguy posted on 07 Aug 2012, 10:07 3 2

apple thinks people are too dumb to confuse ipad with galaxy tabs. haha

13. andro. posted on 07 Aug 2012, 10:15 4 3

Apple is perhaps right the majority of the time when it comes to ifans, they've made their fortune preying on these people.

How any company can say people bought your rivals product only because they got confused and thought its your is laughable beyond belief. Its like claiming someone bought a ford focus by mistake under the belief it was actually a Honda civic!

3. iamcc posted on 07 Aug 2012, 09:42 17 2

The reality is that Samsung was significantly influenced by Apple's success with the iPhone.

Did Samsung copy Apple 100%? No.
Did Samsung take heavy design cues from Apple? Yes.
Is that how pretty much every market works? Yes.

14. 305Bucko posted on 07 Aug 2012, 10:35 2 3

only a matter of time before an Android fanboy comes around and thumbs you down.

I agree with you 100%

72. quesoesgrande posted on 07 Aug 2012, 14:21 1 1

I'm an android fanboy and I completely agree with him. This dumb lawsuit is like asking who owns the rectangle. Nobody does but everybody uses it. I can't believe there is this much argument. If apple can sue Samsung, why can't they sue all the other smartphone designers? They're all the same thing, a device with a screen. Who made that first? Not apple.

103. 305Bucko posted on 09 Aug 2012, 12:27

I guess my statement was misunderstood, despite the fact that I said "I agree with you 100%"

What I meant to say was that some android fanboys are so blind that they will argue that Samsung never tried to copy apple. When in fact they have.

I do not favor apple by any means. Im not loyal to brands. I like to see things how they really are.

I hope samsung wins this trial, because I think apple is abusive and greedy.

However, I can accept the truth. Samsung did shamelessly try to copy most of Apple's ideas, but theres nothing wrong with that. Apple should feel flattered not mad.

95. doublehammer posted on 08 Aug 2012, 07:58

there is nothing wrong with looking at what works, taking a piece of it, and trying to improve it. That IS how markets work. Hell thats 100% how APPLE works. Other than the introduction of iOS, what major thing have they come up with since then that was 100% original? Just like everyone else, they look around, see what consumers are buying (even though they lied and said they dont), take a piece of it, and change it enough to call it their own.

The difference is the rest of the world isnt suing over it. Apple thinks that they own whatever marketspace they enter, regardless of how many people were there before they entered.

16. taco50 (banned) posted on 07 Aug 2012, 10:48 6 12

Sorry man, but Samsung crossed the line. Every phone maker has taken design and UI cues from Apple. Copying icons and packaging is inexcusable though.

20. iamcc posted on 07 Aug 2012, 10:54 7 3

Icons and packaging don't sell devices.

Move along taco.

21. taco50 (banned) posted on 07 Aug 2012, 10:57 6 9

Then why did Samsung copy them? Valso apparently they do as Samsung is the only android OEM making money.

When you have an iconic design like Apple's people are drawn to it. Samsung knows this and took advantage.

29. Savage posted on 07 Aug 2012, 11:45 6 2

You're right this time. Apple's design influence on Sammy is why Samsung devices sell so well. If that wasn't so, even HTC would be selling more devices than Samsung as they do make better looking smartphones.

Although, the SGS 3 looks nothing like an iPhone and it's selling well.

68. xtian1103 posted on 07 Aug 2012, 14:08 1 1

future samsung devices won't look like apple's products anymore. as the galaxy s and the galaxy tab were the "head start" that they need to pull away in the smartphone race.

36. tedkord posted on 07 Aug 2012, 12:05 3 1

Samsung are making money because they are offering the best Android phones. Exynos processors, super amoled, more ram, microsdxc, removable battery. Plus their phones are generally more enthusiast friendly.

The S3 is in no way like an iPhone, yet it sold like hotcakes.

58. matrix_neo posted on 07 Aug 2012, 13:17 1 1

How about apple never took advantage?? There are smartphones before iphone, there are tablets before ipad. Apple take advantage to sell those products. Sad to say, their ideas and designs steals it from other companies and make it better. Only ifans say iconic design, whereas there are are many designs more iconic than iphone.

Yes samsung is doing great in making money that's why apple suing them, apple wants only them making money. Sad to say apple can't compete anymore, other companies such as samsung can make better products. Apple can't accept it, that's the truth. Suing samsung makes them the blacksheep of mobile industry.

63. pkiran1996 posted on 07 Aug 2012, 13:36 2 1

So why is the Galaxy S3 selling so well when we all know it has a completely different UI that looks nothing like iOS...

26. tmcr7 posted on 07 Aug 2012, 11:37 6 1

The grid arrangement of icons has been in existence even before iPhone was released. If there's anyone copying it's Apple.

34. andro. posted on 07 Aug 2012, 11:59 3 1

Agreed phones have been using the Grid menu system long before apple, this one for example is from a nokia n93 review in 2006.

http://ixbtlabs.com/articles2/mobile/nokia-n93.html

The grid menu in phone long before 2006,all apple did was add a fourth row in the screen width, most probably due to having the screen space available. Lg already had a touch screen phone out before the iphone with a touchscreen grid menu so Apple are just being simply apple again

Apple want to lie or do what ever necessary to prevent others from competing with them. Too bad they have so much cash.

6. ajac09 posted on 07 Aug 2012, 09:53 2

I only see this law suiting being around to force both sides into talks before the iphone 5 is released which will bring about lawsuits from samsung.

7. TortillaSlap posted on 07 Aug 2012, 09:55 4 1

I dont see an option that says "clearly I was confused, I meant to buy an iPad the whole time".

Just because they were trading from a samsung to an ipad doesnt mean they didnt want the samsung the first time around. That just means HC was not to their liking and they wanted what most people had.. the ipad.
However the "didnt have netflix/hulu" bit is kind of funny.. since it has for quite some time. Shows that users dont know how to DL apps in the marketplace. Honeycomb is a lack luster OS though, so it doesnt surprise me.

8. darkvadervip posted on 07 Aug 2012, 09:56 1 4

Reality of anybody who has played with the tab is that it is a copy of the iPad just with andoid and a few detailed changes. Before you sling mud on me I've owned both but prefer to use my iPad 3 and away from home my HTC flyer. So I'm a semi fan of both but the truth is the truth. Also when the Microsoft surface tab drop it's a wrap on any tab.

9. andro. posted on 07 Aug 2012, 09:59 3 1

This article almost makes it sound like every android Galaxy tablet is being returned, the percentage categories for faults above are percentages for the quite small level of returns actually brought back. The other 98% of customers etc are satisfied.

You'd see it on a daily basis though in the industry that there are always customers who will find something wrong with a phone no matter what it is. You'll always find someone saying the font isn't big enough, ringtone could be louder, battery should last forever, device should never ever ever freeze even for a second or that the browser should be good enough for them to abandon their 1500 buck pc.

18. taco50 (banned) posted on 07 Aug 2012, 10:49 3 9

Do you have data to back up your 2% return rate claim?

Btw the return issues sounds like typical android issues. Lag, non responsive touch screen, force closes, lack of quality apps.

22. PhoneArenaUser posted on 07 Aug 2012, 11:09 6 1

"...lack of quality apps."

This excuse could be working maybe three years ago but not today.

25. andro. posted on 07 Aug 2012, 11:28 4 2

Taco its not an official stat but a general level of the return rates experienced across the board in handsets, xperias in europe for instance have a 1% return rate. Each manufacturer is different but very few rise above 3% worldwide, the ones that do are usually lesser brand names.

We all know your stats are extremely accurate like 77% of android users not knowing what wifi is or how to use it ;-)
Apply this sound logic when 68% of the worlds users are android and 77% of them do not understand or know how to use wifi its means over half of the worlds smartphone users do not know how to use wifi!!! Gasp,OMG!

As for those android issues, rarely if ever customers complain about this only maybe in perhaps basic entry level smartphones in the under 60 smackers bracket, the only reason people might hear of it because you use it here repetitively clutching at straws, which you have been doing alot recently,as for which i present you with this photo!

40. tedkord posted on 07 Aug 2012, 12:12 4 1

The funny thing is, when you think about it, Apple are saying that a large percentage of people who want iPhones or iPads can walk out of a store with a box that clearly says Samsung, thinking they got an Apple product. So, in essence they're saying people who want iPhones or iPods are really stupid.

46. Owlet posted on 07 Aug 2012, 12:26 5 1

Is he really worth it? If everybody would just quit arguing with burrito.....

49. andro. posted on 07 Aug 2012, 12:32 1 1

I generally don't but the odd time its good to have fun at his expense!

50. Owlet posted on 07 Aug 2012, 12:33 1 1

Well, only if it's fun... ;-)

17. bobfreking55 posted on 07 Aug 2012, 10:49 1

but seriously speaking though, bias aside, Apple may have influenced Samsung's products a lot.
The transition from the first tab to the 10.1 maybe was due to the iPad 2's success and the Galaxy S after the iPhone's success.

But i really don't think the shapes of the devices, banning and the worth of the damages is reasonable. I mean, to get money, you don't need suing and sh.t... a better product should be the reason for earning money! keep the competition!

19. Savage posted on 07 Aug 2012, 10:50 4

The whole 'People buy Galaxy Tab because they confused it with iPad' is kinda stupid. If I were spending $500+ on a piece of tech, I would atleast LOOK and know what I am buying.
