Samsung Galaxy S IV to introduce touchless gestures for screen navigation

0. phoneArena posted on 07 Feb 2013, 08:30

Remember the "floating touch" tech on the Sony Xperia sola, that lets you hover your finger over the screen and select links or pictures in websites without actually touching the display..?

the point is that Sammy never bring new ideas. they copied S-voice from Siri, lots of patents from apple and now its Sony's time.

58. oister85 posted on 07 Feb 2013, 10:51 5 4

Yeah samsung copies like everyone does, but they also bring innovation. They make there hi end phones top of the line. Bringing the latest software and features. Samsung is doing something good to the consumer.

66. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 07 Feb 2013, 11:12 3 6

yea ok like taking credit for what has already been around?? thats doing the consumers good right? lying to them and THEMSELVES is doing them good right?

135. oister85 posted on 08 Feb 2013, 06:28 2

The consumer dont care if samsung took the idea of the other company. People in general only care how well integrated the phone is . In my opinion samsung is the only one stepping out the woods with their software. trust me I would like to see sony succeed this year. Sony needs to focus in their software to make an impact.

Oh yeah like the smart features; smart stay, smart rotation, pop-up play, pop-up browser, multi-windows and so on.. From which company did they copy these? LMAO! Keep on hating, it's making Samsung even more popular.. =]

97. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 07 Feb 2013, 13:16 1 5

its too deep to uncover all that stuff but im gonna bet they were "inspired" by somone else there too

Biased and bitter as always.. Try yoga, it helps.. =]

Samsung may have taken a page out of Motorola's book by taking features like smart actions and Motocast and improving upon them. Truly innovative technology is far and few between nowadays most companies utilize what's already there and put their spin on it. I am an unbiased phone guy but have seen enough to know that technologies are just being shuffled by diff. companies & not creating new technologies.

94. tedkord posted on 07 Feb 2013, 12:59 2 1

And Apple bought Siri, dumbed it down and threw it on the iPhone as a buggy beta, because they knew about Project Majel. So what?

Apple saw that the Android notification shade was much superior to their own implementation, so they copied it.

Thats how competition works. If you see a product feature that is better than yours, you try top outdo it. Everyone had similar features, especially when the public clamors for said feature.

103. SleepingOz posted on 07 Feb 2013, 14:41 1 1

Don't try to reason with biased haters, it's like playing chess with pigeons. They tend to willingly forget that the GSII had vlingo voice command well before apple launch siri as their own.

Sony phones are terrible. It's sony who tries to copy samsung. Samsung makes a big phone, sony follows. Samsung releases galasy s2, sony makes every one of their phones look like s2. Lmao retards

7. imsickwithsmartphone posted on 07 Feb 2013, 08:46 9 2

what a beast!!

10. richardyarrell2011 (banned) posted on 07 Feb 2013, 08:55 12 9

It would be extremely easy for Samsung to incorporate these gestures into the Galaxy S4. On my Galaxy Note 2 with the stylus these features and overall ability are pc like. Nobody beats Samsung in the software and features solutions on smartphones period. The Galaxy S4 will be a very cool device bound to have something extremely special to separate from the upcoming 2013 handsets.

34. techspace posted on 07 Feb 2013, 09:27 3

i hope that the s4 doesn't come with cheap materials......and making a metallic phone would be extremely easy as well, they have already made the ativ......they should make a metallic gaaxy s4 with good design and they should also make it dust, water proof...if they do that, then it will be more popular than any other android phone in the market.....it will rule the market until the note III is released...

95. tedkord posted on 07 Feb 2013, 13:00

Metal will increase the weight while possibly interfering with the signal. Kevlar or carbon fiber would be better.

137. Berzerk000 posted on 08 Feb 2013, 09:23

I personally don't care if they stick with polycarbonate, just as long as they give it a matte finish and/or make it unibody. It's just the glossy finish and flimsy battery door on the GS3 and Note II that make it look cheap.

12. som posted on 07 Feb 2013, 08:56 1 10

Apple patented 100 years ago so don't use it.

13. erdpov posted on 07 Feb 2013, 08:59 10 6

Sony is about to release a pahablet with active stilus and what? Should we blame Sony for taking some obvious and commonly useful features? Stop bashing Sammy for coping. The good painter is the painter who makes perfect reproductions. Sammy opened a whole new market of phablets, let's do it the Apple way - patents on size and shape? Is that good?

15. emadshiny posted on 07 Feb 2013, 09:01 9 10

haha, Sony copying Sammy?? you kidding??
don't you remember Sony P series with stylus?
where was samsung that time?

38. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 07 Feb 2013, 09:44 7 9

THANK YOU MY GOOOOOD FRIEND! thats all i have to say....but noitce one thing......look at how many red thumbs are given to you........a clear indication of how many samsung fans are but hurt behind that simple fact alone

42. erdpov posted on 07 Feb 2013, 10:09 7 2

Firstly, Apple killed that kind of stylus and sammy has brought from the dead, Secondly that stylus was not active and it was like a simple stick. Don't even compare it to sPen.

55. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 07 Feb 2013, 10:43 2 5

when did apple have a stylus?

it was a simple stick? really? so you mean you couldnt do nothing with it on the phone?

65. iushnt posted on 07 Feb 2013, 11:10 4 2

Can I ask you a question? Which of the following case makes you much happier? :
1. When someone says I love Sony.
Or
2. When someone says I hate samsung.

Just curious lol..

67. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 07 Feb 2013, 11:14 2 5

neither.....one that says ..........i love whats RIGHT! regardless if its sony or samsung!

75. iushnt posted on 07 Feb 2013, 11:41 3 1

My friends keep arguing between apple and samsung. I tell them that we buy any other product easily but why the hell are cell phones taken with so importance.. They say it's a game, like ManU and Chelsea.. No body is innocent but it's fun to be a fan. Strange... I hope this fan boy era of smart phone ends soon.. Apple and samsung don't deserve this much hype just because they made phones. I hope e everyone become neutral and realize that there are other things in life too which are much more important than being a fan boy to a particular phone manufacturer..

70. erdpov posted on 07 Feb 2013, 11:19 5 1

You don't even know about Job's statement "who wants a stylus"? He banned them! Misunderstanding.
Second question. It could sound pretty obvious, but Yes p1's stylus was nothing but a stick! Because you could replace it with keys or nails. A lot of companies provided their winmobile phones with styluses not only sony.

72. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 07 Feb 2013, 11:27 3 4

Sorry i cant trust anything jobs came up with or said.....after photos where uncovered that apple took design q's from Sonys older phones!

Second answer: does it matter if it was a simple stylus that couldnt do what samsungs copy stylus can do? or does it matter that the IDEA came BEFORE samsung?

I dont care if they copied or not......i only care about people that dont like to give credit where credit IS DUE!

just cuz you took something that was already around and made it "revolutionary" does not mean YOU CREATED IT!

the concept was still there before you came around and if that simple concept wasnt THERE in the FIRST PLACE!........where would samsung be? what credit would they have to boast about?

127. iushnt posted on 07 Feb 2013, 20:18 1

People normally don't care about real innovator.. Credits and bla bla... They just care about final products.. I understand your concern on these matters but I suggest you to do a very good research from creditable source.. Because by your comments you don't seem neutral and you are heavily biased towards Sony.. Spen and stylus are not same.. They serve different purpose.. You can't say it as a copied technology just because it looks like a stylus.. Now, as you may say it's a pen and pen were here since 100 of years so it's a copied pen and copied stylus.. Chill dude, how can you expect Sammy fanboys to accept truth
when you comment in such a biased way and try to prove that only Sony innovates.. Me being neutral cannot trust you as you really don't know how note 2 works. How can you expect Sammy fans to accept you? You say credit should go to the true innovator and you don't know the differences between stylus and spen. Comeon be a creditable man.. Sony makes great product but don't loose your creditability by commenting only on sony's favor..

138. dsmboost posted on 11 Feb 2013, 15:23

XPERIA-KNIGHT..

Calm your tits please. It's not that serious. People are starving and dying from horrible living conditions around the world, and you're worried about "who thought of it first?"

Please, grow up (unless you're a little kid). And that applies to all of you worried about such trivial matters, whether you are a samsung, sony, or apple fan.

140. alexzibrit posted on 12 Feb 2013, 19:14

Last Time I checked a smartphone with a stylus which did nothing was called a PDA a couple years back, and if you are going that route how bought we say Sony stole that idea from Nintendo's Ds,

77. emadshiny posted on 07 Feb 2013, 11:46 2 5

yeah my friend. if they where not id*ot they didn't called stylus, S-voice and this one as Sammy's innovation. they can't accept the company they support is a real copycat.

141. alexzibrit posted on 12 Feb 2013, 19:16 1

Apple didn't create Siri!!!!!!!!!! for crying out loud they bought it, and actually HTC took intertest in it first, but Apple out bid them and thus they got it, plus Apple has Siri (unchanged) since 2008

44. kobainez posted on 07 Feb 2013, 10:14 4 8

Idk why stupid sammy fanboy tumb down ur comment. They can't accept the truth that crapsung are copycats. I might gt thumbs down as well

29. Dimitru posted on 07 Feb 2013, 09:19 5 3

51. shuaibhere posted on 07 Feb 2013, 10:30 2 5

What about newton tablet????
Don't compare old tech with new one....stylus was dead....if sony had a stylus why didn't they used in their flagships????
Samsung reinvented the stylus..and now many are trying to copy it...that's the truth .

56. AshishRomea posted on 07 Feb 2013, 10:44 6 5

samsungg ? i knw this company , popular for getting sued and has one place remaining to be sealed - the sony region . SONY WILL SUE SAMMY SOONER OR LATER ! samsung is popular copy cat , and sony is known for its unique and differnt aproach!

14. darac posted on 07 Feb 2013, 08:59 9 9

This could be awesome.
Sony's take was just an infant attempt.
But flicking through sites and menus without touching the screen.. well that's what I'm talking about

28. emadshiny posted on 07 Feb 2013, 09:18 10 8

poor Sammy who tries to copy infants. LOL

57. kobainez posted on 07 Feb 2013, 10:46 5 3

25. InspectorGadget80 posted on 07 Feb 2013, 09:14 7

Hey this is still a great feature on sony dont care if its on the gs4. Wish u guys should stop fighting over this tech. The note 2 already have this with their s pen feature

36. T12RYK posted on 07 Feb 2013, 09:35 7 3

I really like Samsungs innovation! If only they could combine it with hardware like HTC and a better looking UI like Sense without it being too heavy on the processor! But I'm seriously considering switching to Samsung soon!

39. Seymur posted on 07 Feb 2013, 09:52 1

43. kobainez posted on 07 Feb 2013, 10:09 6 9

107. TechnoTechyes posted on 07 Feb 2013, 14:56 3

Yep, touchscreens, icons, apps... The whole Smartphone concept, everyone is copying PALM. But Palm is dead, so...

52. SlimSoulja86 posted on 07 Feb 2013, 10:33 6 1

WhT IS WRONG WITH SOME PEOPLE? Like really. Why do we hate other companies? For what I ask. This is good news for samsung fans, whether copying or not. We can call Samsung copycat as much as we like, they will keep selling their phones and hang on to the top brand recognition, because they deliver features packed smartphones. Sorry htc, apple, moto and nokia fans, but this is good news to sammys fans. I think you dont like the idea because your favourite companies cant deliver on features. Jealousy is the ugliest trait.

61. erdpov posted on 07 Feb 2013, 11:00 4 2

Sony fans! Not so long ago you've got an excellent smartphone Xperia Z. Sony was able to add this incredible feature into specs! They had almost a year to polish the sola's function and make it a selling point. Instead they created another masterpiece. Fail, sony!

68. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 07 Feb 2013, 11:19 3 3

'so that gives samsung the right to "steal" they're idea because sony took another route with the waterproof xperia Z? i wonder what they would of did if sony included BOTH of these features in the Z!

74. erdpov posted on 07 Feb 2013, 11:39 2 2

Sammy is a good copycat, they like adopting "an infant" and bring up a bestseller. Sony is a great company but they lack marketing and they need a lesson to be teached by companies like apple and sammy.

78. emadshiny posted on 07 Feb 2013, 11:49 3 2

i think you must wait till the end of year and then write this comment. Sony is independent just for a year and we see every Samboy is completely afraid of its rise. so wait and watch. sony is just starting the show.

80. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 07 Feb 2013, 11:56 3 2

85. ReaperChief posted on 07 Feb 2013, 12:16 6 3

Dunno about Sony guys around here, but I wouldn't mind if a company brings something great from all the manufacturers in a phone. Moreover, if Sony couldn't market the idea, why not let others do a better job? To conclude, I think that the SGS4 will send the Xperia Z with the boring S4 Pro chipset, LCD(not OLED) screen and full breakable glass design to the bathroom..

88. emadshiny posted on 07 Feb 2013, 12:21 4 4

really?? i think you forgot your S3 with its quad cores were defeated in performance by Sony's duals like T and V. and i think glass is more valuable and classy than cheap plastic. even those OLED with their saturated colors are rubbish. Sony devices produce the most real colors.

91. JWS65 posted on 07 Feb 2013, 12:41 2 4

take a look at different benchmarks and you'll see V has defeated S3 in almost all of them.
