i have been saying this and will say it again, there are 90% chances of sammy using its own Octa Core Exynos cause S4, i bet ya, is gonna sell in millions, and sammy is famous for using most of the hardware themselves, thats the success point for sammy. using Qualcomm chip in its flagship is not only gonna affect the sales of its S4 but also its gonna decrease its market value as its the 2nd biggest semiconductor manufacturing company on the planet!
its would be like intel making a computer using AMD chip in it... its just unacceptable...

I'm confused as to why samsung is so popular I own a gs3 and its a ok phone at best. my cousin has a one X plus and it seems better in every way possible and after seeing the new htc one I just don't see why there is still all this hype on the s4 u already know that the internals will be pretty similar but 2 me the new htc will be built far better. I can't stand when I hit the home button on my phone and I get that cracking plastic sound and I also don't really care for amoled screens. So seriously what's the big thing that keeps everyone wanting a samsung? Cuz i dont get it what am I missing that's so great about these products

I'm confused as to why HTC is so popular, awful support, a constantly changing strategy, they say they'll do one thing for one minute like stick to one flagship a year, then they mis calculate the market and release 3 or 4 different variants of that model and refuse to update the older model totally not understanding what the customer wants. Wanna bet who'll get Key Lime Pie between your 'brother's' One X+ or 'your' S3, yep, pretty much the latter. It's the little things that Samsung adds that counts, removable battery, Micro SD and availability on all carriers as well as making an effort to make sure at least over half of their portfolio, even from 2011 gets an update, ain't seeing that commitment from HTC. I don't care how good HTC looks, to me they're nothing special and are a shell of their former selves, the HTC One may be their ultimate gamble but seriously, what features there to differ the One between the competition in a very aggressive market and how will it benefit the average consumer who values usability and convenience? Ultra Pixels, Metal? Meh!

Actually U are wrong HTC does exactly what MistB has said. I don't know if they have changed in 2012/2013 but I learned my lesson in 2k11 Samsung's flagship is better.

PS. When you become advanced enough to mod/rom your Android devices you will really appreciate the way Samsung just paves the road for you.

I feel the same, KParks. I had all the HTC phones, and then bought SIII. I tried hard to see why it was called the king of Android. I don't get it, what's so special about that phone? Certainly not a better support, like MistB said. It has nothing to do with the phone. You might like the support better, more upgrades, but the phone is still the same - nothing special. I think they're so popular because Sammy is doing an outstanding job marketing. Just look at Apple too, marketing is everything. HTC phones are one of the best, beautiful inside and out. But they do make a lot of mistakes, in marketing, giving in to VZ about sd slots, slow updates. But comparing phones to phones, HTC is the king, galaxy s is crap. My opinion.

That is why that remains your opinion but it doesn't change the fact over which company is succeeding and which is desperately clinging onto life. I personally don't own an S3 and opt for the phablets instead. Got a Note 2/S3 Mini and HTC one X myself, the difference between the the note 2 and S3 mini is vast enough to justify the cost, there really are an array of features that are just well thought out and what makes that even more special is the way each feature is bettered with the update (if it comes), the 4.2 leak for the S3 has given that model longevity, future proofing and a longer shelf life with all the added features able to rival the note 2 (for which you WILL be needing a manual to master all of them and that's only fore the S3, just think when the S4 comes out the S3 will get over half of it's features added) compared to the One X, a brilliant phone let down by Sense and with no guarantee of extra shelf life if you were to buy one today for 2 years, already the S3 is being compared this year's flagships yet the one X doesn't. But the S3 today and a year later, the phone will still be on par with the good software implemented in the phone (i'm not talking about updates here), buy the One X, and there's no guarantee of it getting key lime pie, sense 5 yes, KLP, that remains debatable.

the same thing were said about the SGSII last year, and that phone has reach EOL, by this time next year the SGSIII will also be obsolete.. remember Android moves so fast that phones are only good for 1 year..

You raise a good point Gallito, I think choice is good and that's the beauty of Android, but that choice needs a longer shelf life, the S3 will still be a very capable phone in 1 year and I disagree with the fact androids are only good for a year, a lot of apps are optimised for the hardware regardless of the OS or age of the phone unlike the gap between the 3Gs and the 4 (both to which I admit owning), Galaxies are the exception as they have now achieved that premium reputation of the Android ladder that the others like HTC can only dream of. But, when it comes to their resale value, there is no doubting the fruit company still retains the value of their models after 3 years, heck my ancient 3Gs can still fetch a fair bit on the auction sites :)

Well, at least all the GS2 models will get Jelly Bean (4.1) with the new Touchwiz Nature UX instead of Samsung just leaving them the way that they are.

I'd say 1 major OS update, 1 minor OS update, and 1 huge UI update is pretty good for an Android phone released in 2011.

this whole time i just was in awe....sigh ok heres the list of things that the whole world has experienced
poor battery
poor support
non removable battery
non removable memory "oh your htc crapped out here let me replace your whole phone oh you didn't back everything up via cloud? thats too bad"
sense laggy
camera shotty
oooh premium feel make the phone out of steel and its still a poc
software always fails somewhere always then they update it and mess something else up
produce way too many devices and then put on certain carriers you lose fan base and support
non of the htcs i have had last and keep me happy or other people oh and ive tried
sensation
mytouch 4g
mytouch 4g slide
evo
evo 3d
one s
hd2(had to make android to deal with it)
amaze
friend has the lte the best of the bunch but still htc screwed that up.
lets not forget the feature capabilites and innovation you my friend don't know how to use your phone because any comparison of the phones puts samsung far ahead of htc hell im starting to like lg more....i know i know... lol

Because the GS3 is a lot better than the One X. The two One X devices that I owned were garbage in terms of usability while the GS3 was pretty flawless, nothing that annoyed me besides maybe the home button being to close to the bottom edge.

The One X had like tons of little things that annoyed me. Like power button placement, crappy recent apps set up, really poor wallpaper select screen, camera sticking out on a flat table.

Which leads me to another brilliant little aspect of the GS3 design. Samsung somehow managed to make it round and curved for your hand yet at the same time stay completely flush when using on the table. Something that doesn't apply to the One X, 8x, and most likely the One. The One looks like it'll rock like a cradle on a table.

The s3 is the first phone I ever owned with the power button on the side of the phone I don't like it but got used to it if it was something I started with prolly wouldn't have a problem personally I can't wait to get rid of this POS but vzw refuses to pick up any good phones and when they do they have some ridiculous storage options.. I can live with out a sd card but put a minimum of 32gb of storage with a 64gb option that's all I'm asking.

Whether you like it or not, the GS3 was A LOT more well thought out than the One X was.

Samsung did enough R&D to realize that the Qualcomm S4 + ICS needed 2gb of ram for multitasking and HTC didn't realize that until after the fact. Samsung realized that the GS3 needed a larger batter than the 1800 mah one that HTC used. The replaceable battery and micro SD add even more flexibility. Despite being bigger the GS3 felt much nicer in the hand with the curves and that also made it seem smaller. The notification toggles made digging into the menus something you didn't have to do and you didn't have to waste a home screen spot with a toggle widget.

The bottom line is that the GS3 was much nicer to use and more well thought out than any HTC product ever created. And from what I have seen from the One, Samsung is going to cream them again in these aspects.

Correction, we're all followers for being lured in by whatever flashy the big companies sell us, we the consumer, are their experiment and we make their pockets deeper. There's no such thing as a single flock of drones, at the end of the day they are all businesses competing for our money so we're all gullible at the end of the day. I colour myself the most gullible for wasting money on every platform (wp8 now included with a pre-ordered Lumia 920 on the way), it's whatever works for me and I spend my hard earned cash to what appeals to me, not what I am a diehard fan of. Nokia/HTC/Samsung/Apple/Blackberry/Sony, yep, been there, done that, except for maybe Huawei ;)

Almost forgot the micro usb on the side of the One X. That is terrible when trying to use your phone for portrait texts when plugged. The HTC One fixed that but it not being right in the middle flares up my OCD that the One is not perfectly symmetrical.

why didnt you wait and get a HTC then if they are so good, i 2 have a galaxy s3 LTE and will gladly swear by it, speed, screen, audio, games codec support, battery removable, micro sd support, obviously LTE, never a problem with this handset, HTC is Good but it lacks in small areas where it could achieve more success, I.E micro sd and battery option, HTC one x+ is an upgraded version of the one + to try and compete specs and sales wise with the S3, and it came out AFTER s3 so clearly the specs would get a boost to push it, but it did not help, the s3 still ships MILLIONS of units per month worldwide, i think in excess of 50 Million total sales worldwide, clearly speak for themselves, HTC can only dream of these numbers as can any other company apart from apple, this is not a slur against HTC i have actually owned and liked their older products, but their random strategy changes and unstability will not help them, the new device certainly looks good, if not a bit like a blackberry with a front grill,
build quality again is a personal choice, but given other manufacturers problems with signal, wifi, connections, frailty during even transit, i am glad that samsung went with the plastic covers, and again 50 MILLION+ cannot care either

Last time samsung used Snapdragon because their exynos 4 could not work with LTE modem required for North America. They figured out that issue when they released Note 2. All note 2 had exynos 4(europe/NA).
So i dont see why samsung shouldnt use its exynos 5 dual core in galaxy s4. Oh and yes they WILL use dual core if they choose to use exynos. They will gradually increase their specs. no way in hell they will jump to quad core
And rumors that samsung is having drainage issue is bullcrap. no company shows off its product with defects like battery drainage. and even if it is an issue its just software.

believe me, the best option is to buy the best phone in the market then wait for 2-3 years which will be easy due to the power of the phone. then you have to update it with another flagship. this the best way to be happy :) it is cost-effective too :)

A massive release spanning 100 million projected shipped is not an easy task. Samsung probably can't even do it with something complicated like the Exynos 5 Octa. It makes sense to spread some of the work to Qualcomm. Think logistics.

Marketing 101... US S4 owners will not hesitate to upgrade to the Exynos powered Note 3 when it comes out in the holiday season.....having the Exynos S4 in the US would stagnate the interest on the Note 3.....hence, less profit
