Samsung Galaxy S IV features Smart scroll, Smart pause, Smart rotation revealed by screenshots

Several days ago, a rumor related to the upcoming and yet-unannounced Samsung Galaxy S IV surfaced suggesting that the device would use advanced eye-tracking features. By figuring out which part of the screen the user is looking at, the smartphone would automatically scroll whatever content is displayed, be it a web page, a document, or something else. Now, a handful of screenshots, allegedly taken on a Galaxy S IV, confirm the existence of the said feature...

Head movement is something that Google Glass uses for turning on the device right? Isn;t that patented :)

Gotta hand it to Samsung for all of it's innovative products and software implementations as well as their features and solutions. Clearly they are industry leaders in this area specifically and this is exactly what separates them from the rest. The Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 were ground breaking devices in many aspects and clearly the 213 million smartphones sold in 2012 with 40% market share bare those results. You can rest assured that Samsung is well on their way to another year of excellent sales probably even 250 million smartphones sold in 2013. I believe the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 will surpass the current Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. This makes me LOVE to sit back and wait for the Galaxy Note 3 knowing full well that the NOTE 3 will be the grandest device ever. I have said it before and will say it forever Samsung is android plain and simple period.

Yet another feature to deactivate because it either lags the phone, isn't that usefull or bogs down the battery.
40. clark (Posts: 51; Member since: 23 Feb 2013)
shut up haters you're just envy because your phone will never have that feature. So pity on you all haters trolling and throwing hates in here. Get a life first before envying Samsung's innovation. Haters will always hate whatever explanation you gave, right haters?

Samsung and innovation LMAO. If you want to look at true innovation, look at PureView technology, super-sensitive screen aand the OG iPhone. What all of you are claiming to be innovation isn't innovation. It is more of actual advances in terms of hardware specifications. And if you think that big.LITTLE setup/flexible screens/digitizer technology (aka S-Pen) are innovations, then yes they are but not from sammy. They were first demoed by ARM/Nokia/Wacom.

Definition of INNOVATION
: the introduction of something new
: a new idea, method, or device
I think it would fall under that definition. I don't know of any other phone that have this ability....so it's something new. I think the problem is you don't personally like Samsung, so you are going let your own personal judgement get in the way. I personally don't like Apple...but I do have to thank them and applaud them for coming out the the OG iPhone...with out that first "smartphone" We would not have the beast that is Android and all the really cool devices we have now.

Don't mind him. He's just butthurt about the fact that his fav companies are struggling to compete against Samsung.
61. No_Nonsense (Posts: 826; Member since: 17 Aug 2012)
I certainly don't like Samsung, but the fact is most of their claimed innovations are either a step up from someone else's (ie google's or nokia's or anyone else's). They don't actually bring anything new h/w wise to the table but in terms of s/w whatever they bring is either gimmickry and doesn't work as well as advertised or nothing to write about. If I were to choose someone for innovation on android's h/w side, it'd be google and not samsung or htc or someone else as of now. As for this feature not being anywhere else, it doesn't really count as innovation until it works as well as advertised. It'd be a feature that is steps away from being perfect. Moral: instead of gimmicks, they should really innovate, and/or improve the existing smart stay and other things from the s3. Make it perfect and then brag about it being innovative.

learn to accept the reality that Nokia will never gain its glory again they're just part of the history that's it. I know truth always hurts so Nokia fanboys learn to cry. Its normal to cry dont worry

Why not? Sorry, I don't hate sammy, but nokia might rise in few years.
107. 007akshay (Posts: 37; Member since: 20 Jun 2012)
nokia may rise only if dey move to android or dey make 41mp lumia.......these r d only 2 ways.........

i certainly don't like PEOPLE DISSING other manufacturer that know how to make great software on their great products.
73. jroc74 (Posts: 5192; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Thank you. You would think more ppl would actually look up the definition of innovate.
Thats why I stopped trying to dismiss Apple fans when they mentioned it. In a sense they were right.

shut up s**pid nokia fanboy, pureview is the only innovation that Nokia had and next?? Nothing, no doubt why Nokia's sales is continuing declining (including WP8) coz there's nothing innovation and inrteresting thing on Nokia but the pureview only. Seems you know nothing poor fanboy. Go get a life first
75. jroc74 (Posts: 5192; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
According to you...improved camera tech and software is innovation...and not advancement...
IMO its not innovation, but advancement. Camera tech has gotten better in phones since day one.
A different way of scrolling....is not innovation?
We can all twist arguments to fit our opinions. Super sensitive screen? The first capacitive screens coulda been called super sensitive vs resistive screens. The orig iPhone, the LG Prada.

Funny...I thought Google was android.

He (rusticguy) was being sarcastic. Sheesh. Get a grip, guys.
76. LionStone (Posts: 472; Member since: 10 Dec 2010)
Haha...yea they're leaders alright, that's why no other manufacturer is rushing to utilize any of these gimmicks. Oh but hey, they will follow in HTCs footsteps with a 5", 1080p display. Samsung doesn't lead, they follow...history shows that.
81. LionStone (Posts: 472; Member since: 10 Dec 2010)
Sorry Richard :(
“Samsung’s focus on marketing was the main reason the company was so successful last year,” an anonymous source inside Samsung said.

85. InspectorGadget80 (Posts: 6797; Member since: 26 Mar 2011)

9. linas_ltu (Posts: 32; Member since: 19 Apr 2012)
marketing gimmicks. They will not work as you expect.
12. rusticguy (Posts: 2828; Member since: 11 Aug 2012)
Well entire Smartphone industry is all about who does the gimmicks best isn;t it ... some even try and do it by faking videos :D
14. GALAXY-STORM (Posts: 328; Member since: 13 Oct 2012)
All the features works just fine. Check the latest samsung device running on jb.
10. nikenturd (unregistered)
arent these features useless at night ( or dimly lit room ) because the camera barely detects anything?
16. rusticguy (Posts: 2828; Member since: 11 Aug 2012)
Light of the screen should be enough to detect eye related sensing IMHO.
13. Loubielou (Posts: 279; Member since: 11 Jul 2012)
Apple seems very quite alately,as they will be seeing was the S4 an offer an then copy everything on there 5s ,they do not seem to like someone else offering better features than there phones, but Samsung seem to like the battle with Apple,an nowdays can easily outshine Apple
21. ravigill (Posts: 24; Member since: 30 Jan 2013)
THATS SMART PHONE WHICH WILL HAVE SMART STAY ,,,SMART PAUSE,,SMART ROTATION,,,SMART SCROLL,,,,,.HOPE GALAXY S4 WILL BE SMART THAN HTC ONE ,,XPERIA Z AND UPCOMING IPHONE
27. p0rkguy (Posts: 684; Member since: 23 Nov 2010)
Don't think you should get the S4, you'll make all the others seem dumb.
Didn't really want to say it but Samsung fanboys are becoming more ignorant like Apple fanboys, which is sucks because now I can't even defend myself against Apple fanboys.
44. jroc74 (Posts: 5192; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Well we can agree that when a product creates more fanboys....they must be doing something right.
Sadly...I agree with you.
62. SleepingOz (unregistered)
English is not his primary language, obviously.
There're a lot of members here from middle east Asia. Bashing someone on thing like this is pathetic!
93. p0rkguy (Posts: 684; Member since: 23 Nov 2010)
I DONT KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT TO TYPE SOMETHING IN ALL CAPS IS QUITE IGNORANT, PRIMARY LANGUAGE OR NOT.
24. Cesar (Posts: 135; Member since: 16 Aug 2012)
i don't think this is the S IV, this looks like the S III
66. InspectorGadget80 (Posts: 6797; Member since: 26 Mar 2011)
The siv doesnt have a home button. Look at the leak pictures again. Most 5"phone phones have on screen buttons
25. N-fanboy (Posts: 538; Member since: 12 Jan 2013)
I'm sure it will blow the fish out of the pond but i dont see any innovation that will solve oure biggest problems... Like nokia's pureview camera during low light .
45. jroc74 (Posts: 5192; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Does all innovation have to solve "our" biggest problems? Who or what determines "our" biggest problems?
I rarely use the camera on my phone.....so the camera means nothing to me.
Ppl that read alot on their phones.....might like these feature more than Pureview. I am into eBook now. Guess wich feature would get more used by me between these and Pureview?
I would rather see innovation in battery tech than camera tech. If camera tech, innovation was so important...everyone would have a 920 or 808. Or HTC One. Thats the beauty of it....we all have different wants n needs.
63. SleepingOz (unregistered)
Ah, nokian idiots these days. smh..
26. MrJerry (Posts: 399; Member since: 05 Oct 2012)
BTW based on the color reproduction in those pictures, SGS4 will come out with FHD Amoled RGB
