To avoid the confusion, I switched the slides, I led with the color legend initially but realized that folks might gloss over that a little too quickly.

But this news doesn't say anything about AMOLED, so it still may be LCD. :)

My next phone! And here I was thinking that samsung has done all they could to dazzle me with the gs3 and i was going to end up going to a windows phone but seeing this article has confirmed that the gs4 will be epic!
2. bruindog posted on 03 Mar 2013, 15:25 4 0
As long as the battery can handle the screen and upgraded processor I think this will be a true must have. I'm looking forward to see the small touch wiz upgrades sammy is offering that makes the GS3 and the Note 2 so different from the competition.
4. Rafael97 posted on 03 Mar 2013, 15:27 4 2
Nice, Samsung. Hoping for a nice design and build quality ;)

I am curious as to why Samsung is not using a SoC in the SGS4 based on the Mali T-658 GPU. Is it because they are saving it for an upcoming tablet or because they have found it to underperform wrt expectations and competition. Posted AnTuTu scores (if correct) are merely 10% better than those of the HTC One based on the Snapdragon 600 with a souped up Adreno 320.
87. iDroid8 posted on 03 Mar 2013, 20:52 0 0
maybe because its too power hungry and bulky, and hence suited for only bigger devices like tablets or chromebooks?
12. emadshiny posted on 03 Mar 2013, 15:30 1 3
why there is no number on the bars?
we cant compare it with other flagships.
and don't forget that there is no optimus G pro, Xperia Z and htc One on the stat bars.
14. Jonathan41 posted on 03 Mar 2013, 15:36 3 3
Thats a very nice score. Nothing to somersault over but, a very nice score. Around 4000 points more that the One and 6000 more then the Xperia Z. I'll need to see a lot more to keep me from getting a One.
18. Jonathan41 posted on 03 Mar 2013, 15:43 4 4
Oops. I was looking at the wrong thing. I ment 2000 more then the One and 4000 more then the Z.

Without question this will be an exceptional device. The build quality will be excellent. The Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 will share similar design language which will be cool. Samsung will have the 16, 32, 64gb versions available as well as the standard 64gb sdcards. Got a funny feeling this handset will have capabilities for the 128gb sdxc sd card option. I will say the Galaxy S4 will be the device to beat until the Galaxy Note 3 of course.
31. Hemlocke posted on 03 Mar 2013, 16:13 19 6
Since when has ANY Samsung had "exceptional build quality"? The S2 was the best built Galaxy S, by a long shot. Mine took more than one dive to a tile floor. The S3 and Note 2 creak when you grip them, and we have all seen the drop tests where the S3 shatters like an iPhone 4S.
79. nobelset posted on 03 Mar 2013, 19:53 6 1
I got my note 2 international version for around $550 and have dropped my note 2 a lot of times, including thrice in the bathroom , twice when taking photographs with a slippery hand xD and once when I alighted from my car. I don't know why but all I've got til now is a few scratches on my screen protector. F.Y.I, I don't have aphone cover. Maybe it was just luck but yea, it survived.
149. Droid773 posted on 15 Mar 2013, 21:54 0 0
I paid $780 Tmobile Note ll. Super happy with my device I dont regret spending my $. dropped on concrete once with cover nothing happened. you dont need screen protector mine is scratch free more than 2 months.
81. MrJerry posted on 03 Mar 2013, 20:21 4 0
Drop test is nothing but for fun and most important part of phone to be protected is screen.
Yes it is glass and most of them are gorillas.
So what do you say?
For me ip5 has best build quality but that doesnt mean it is strong.
I would say my note2 has not the best in terms of build quality but it harldy gets scratches and tints like ip5
Same goes to htc n nokia. Even if they have better build quality, i dont like relatively thick or heavy or the phone without sd card n removable battery.
So everything seems so fair
I dont think sammy cant make the awesome build phone.
But it is really hard to make it with sd card, removable battery, slim and light body at least for now.
Please tell me there is anything like this out there
Btw i am sure GS4 will come out with better build quality
133. Taters posted on 04 Mar 2013, 10:14 1 0
Since always. I think that you are letting your distaste for plastic affect your perception because the GS3 and Note 2 do not creak. I can't stand how the HTC/Sony homers make this crap up. LOL
Samsung has been manufacturing products for years and their high end laptops, TVs, and phones are always exceptionally built . In fact, I never had a single manufacturing problem from any of my Samsung products which included the Tab 10.1, GS2, GS3, and Nexus 10.
All of my HTC products have had either poor finish, rattling volume rockers, dead pixels, screen issues etc. My Sony handsets both had yellow tint on the screen.
So you tell me which one is better built? The phones that give me zero issues or the ones that are heavy, use a denser casing, and have problems all over the place? Yes, plastic products can be more well built than metal products. Just because your weak mind has to associate density and weight with quality it doesn't mean the smarter people has to.
42. therealestmc posted on 03 Mar 2013, 16:49 4 6
The built quality will be "exceptional" like the S3 and Note 2. Yep, Sammy can do it again.
45. Hemlocke posted on 03 Mar 2013, 16:55 4 13
Yes, if by "exceptional" you mean "crappy," then yes, I agree. To Samsung, "Hyperglaze" (Painted) and "Polycarbonate" (The cheapest, flimsiest plastic that qualifies as the material) are good enough. I won't even get into the garbage radios and screens they use.
56. tedkord posted on 03 Mar 2013, 17:25 14 2
I know, right. They should make it out of low grade aluminum. You know, so its flexible. Plus, all the scratches are great for customization. No two aluminum phones ate the same with those random scratches.
Aaaaah, premium materials.
74. Hemlocke posted on 03 Mar 2013, 19:04 1 4
Yes, and we should all stop buying BMW and Mercedes because they don't use enough "polycarbonate" in their builds. Dropping our phones is not the primary use, so until it is, I would prefer they be made of cool glass (Nexus 4) or aluminum (iPhone 5, HTC One), or for that matter, even milled polycarbonate (Lumia 920) so it doesn't look and feel like I am putting a child's toy telephone to my ear.
Last I checked, top-tier phones cost ~$600, so I'm not comfortable giving someone my money that thinks the cheapest materials possible are acceptable on an item in that price range.
Furthermore, the iPhone 5, HTC One, and Lumia 920 all get dents and scratches if you drop them, unless they land on the screen. I'll take that over grenading like the S3 does in ANY drop.
88. _PHug_ posted on 03 Mar 2013, 21:14 7 0
Yeah because the "primary use" of your phone is to admire it's back cover and sides...
91. voxmarc posted on 03 Mar 2013, 21:30 3 0
then dont bother to comment...,just buy those phones you want......pay your money to those premium materials.....GTFO.
101. vincelongman posted on 03 Mar 2013, 23:19 1 0
I just did a few quick google searches, the BMW's i8 and i3, and the body planes of the Mercedes SLR are made out of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (plastic), not aluminum. carbon fiber reinforced polymer is also used on many other supercar and racecars.
carbon fiber reinforced ploymer and carbon nano tube reinforced polymer it is going to be used on most cars/panes/jets in the future, maybe even iOS/Andriod/Windows 8/.... devices in the future.
135. Taters posted on 04 Mar 2013, 10:24 0 0
Sounds like you only judge the book by it's cover. The GS4 is a BMW or Mercedes for all intents and purposes, at least internally. While the competition is like a Fiero engine with a Lambo body, meaning useless. All flash and no substance.
I prefer a well built car over a flashy car body thank you very much.
A lot of Mercedes except for the high end suck now btw since they started building most of them in Mexico.

I have owned 9 unibody Aluminum htc phones and tho I did absolutely love the build quality of them, I'm honestly not bothered by the GS3 Polycarbonate(too much). Honestly guys no matter WHICH material you use, there'll always be pluses and minuses so just pick one and try not to be too critial of the other. Heck, there's even minuses to the Glass on my Nexus 4 so really you just cant win with people no matter which you choose. I love all the materials for different reasons, just as I dislike each one for different reasons as well.

78. RiseAgainst94 posted on 03 Mar 2013, 19:42 0 1
Of all the things you could have chosen to be excellent on the GSIV you chose build quality? That's really where Samsung falls behind the competition, no questions asked.
19. _Bone_ posted on 03 Mar 2013, 15:47 2 6
25k is a pretty darn impressive AnTuTu number for a device in progress, Samsung phones in particular tend to improve 10-20% for the final release or first update, which would leave the S4 around 30k and the leader until SD800 and the Tegra 4 arrive. The 544MP3 is darn good too, XDA calculated that at 533MHz and 1080p, it would perform at the iPad 4's framerate, and that has monsters specs.
Question is however heating and battery drain, even with the additional A9 cores I'd underclock both the A15s and the 544 by a good 33% which would still double the S3's performance AND provide more battery life.
