Samsung Galaxy S III rocks Quadrant, AnTuTu and NenaMark 2 benchmark tests
0. phoneArena 04 May 2012, 04:27 posted on
We've been writing about the Exynos processor prowess all night, but now we are posting our own impressions to back it up. While we were checking out the Galaxy S III for the first time, we made the extra effort to install a few benchmark applications in order to see just how good that fancy new processor is. We run our standard set - Quadrant Standard, AnTuTu and NenaMark 2...

Why would i need performance, when is made all by plastic? I DO NOT want 600$ phone made from plastic.
3. andro. (Posts: 1990; Member since: 16 Sep 2011)
You want an 800$ phone so made from glass that shatters from something almost as easy as dropping it on carpet?
11. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
really, you would rather buy a lesser phone, because its made out of tin and glass????
Yea, im sad by the lack of ceramic, but plastic is not only light weight, its a heck of a lot more durable than glass or tin like HTC and Apple uses. It doesnt cost that much less than glass or tin either.. the "premium" part is all in your mind.
Besides, 4 of 5 will cover it up with a plastic case anyways, so thats pointless to care that much about it.
you buy it for the hardware and for the experience, who cares what the outside is made out of as long as its durable

Give HTC some credit, they use aluminum, not tin.
16. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
I wrap my leftovers in aluminum .. very premium
17. ngo2dd (Posts: 896; Member since: 08 Jul 2011)
lesser according to the great fanboy remixfa
20. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
premium would be titanium and crystal. plastic tin aluminum and glass are common every day cheap ass materials. there is nothing premium about them. between the group, good plastic is the most durable and lightest.
nothing to do with fanboy, everything to do with reality. try it some time.

And I kill the environment with plastic. Great way to be inspired by nature.
31. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 4746; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
I know, it's not like you can go to the plastic plant & get some fresh plastic. Also doesn't it take like 10,000 years or so for plastic to finally biodegrade?
If they are going to tout the nature thing with the Samsung Galaxy S III maybe they should have used the rumored ceramic backing or even went metal, since metal is found "naturally" on this great planet of ours! lol
38. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
you kill the environment with everything you do. ever write on paper? that was a tree? drive your car? thats made with tons of toxic stubstances, as well as it runs on one.
find me a cheap, durable, 100% environmentally friendly material to use and we can talk. You want a phone made out of recycled egg cartons?
28. sleepyjohnny (Posts: 151; Member since: 16 Dec 2009)
you also fly in it and drive in vehicles made of a large percentage of aluminum.
39. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
that is true, but that is aircraft quality aluminum, not phone quality. there is a difference :)
49. sadaivadai (Posts: 156; Member since: 22 Nov 2011)
So if Samsung offers you a a ceramic made Phone and a Plastic made phone with everything else same which one would you buy ???
4. FoneAddict (Posts: 240; Member since: 05 Jul 2011)
I like Samsung, but I have to say what happened to their design department??? This is meant to be a Flagship product yet it looks like a mid tier phone. Yes it's powerful and super fast but if I am going to spend hundreds of dollars on it I expect it to look the part. This looks like your standard Samsung plastic box. Using a Pentile screen is also unforgivable, so disappointed with Samsung.
Kudos to HTC for going outside their comfort zone and coming out with a fresh cool looking design in HTC One X.
9. Retro-touch (Posts: 268; Member since: 24 Oct 2011)
I'm sure Samsung must have considered different materials and plastic was chosen for durability and weight (lighter). Pentile is not even discernible at 720p unless you use your phone with a magnifying glass, I can't even see the sub-pixels on my Samsung Captivate (480x800 pentile) and I have perfect vision so IMO your whining for nothing. i'm not in love with the design either but if I could afford to buy it I would in a heartbeat.
The One X software has minor bugs such as the browser, guaranteed the software of the GS3 will be coded properly
14. androidsbiggestfan (Posts: 76; Member since: 09 Aug 2011)
Samsung and properly coded software, yeah right!
21. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
even I giggled at that. love Samsung for the hardware, but their software generally lacks. of course they do have the king of modders, cyanogen himself, working for them now so it might be different this time.

Why Samsung Why? the old S2 was better looking than this!!!
this looks more like a Nokia phone!!!
24. taz89 (Posts: 2014; Member since: 03 May 2011)
look is a matter of opininon,i actually think it looks good and think it will look even better in person...i think its one of those things that look better i person.reason i say this is all the people that have actually had an hands on with it say it looks nice and feels great in the hand and the people moaning about the design are the ones who have yet to hold one(myself included) i do think the s2 is a good design but i always wished it was more curvy so am more than happy with the curves of the s3...also the plastic used in the s3 is also polycarbonate like the one x and lumia, the only difference is samsung have put a gloss finish on theres.
26. abhishek48 (Posts: 164; Member since: 19 Feb 2012)
hmm... i am not sure.. it just looks like tmobile galaxy s2, which people think was the best look wise gs2.... anyways looks of this are not grt... nor were the looks of gs2.... sensation and lg thrill always look better than samsung phones
8. Adithya7184 (Posts: 317; Member since: 05 Mar 2011)
that's why i like samsung very much. dont mind weather its a plastic or glass, htc must learn from samsung to make a powerful device.
a beautiful design will not make a powerful device.
Kudos to samsung GS3...powerful and innovative phone ever....Take my money....
10. jasrockett (Posts: 36; Member since: 05 Oct 2011)
I got a head ake trying to watch that. I realy appreciate what you guy do for us but man ....
12. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
look at all that I/O in quadrant. OI. i wish there was a way to take out the I/O test so you could test the important parts of the processor without the blue fluff. from the looks of it, it wins in every category, but id still rather see it without the I/O.
18. ngo2dd (Posts: 896; Member since: 08 Jul 2011)
lol 11k on antutu that is not that much better then the T3. So according to you it is only slightly better then the T3 on the One X
25. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
quit trolling me until you have something of Merritt to say. its bad enough that I have to deal with taco's ignorant trolling on me all day, don't add to it.
save the benchmark score comparison for retail release. never trust prerelease benchmark ...they will either go up like the sgs1 and sgs2 did or they might go down (unlikely) like the s4 did between its reference device to real life.
29. ngo2dd (Posts: 896; Member since: 08 Jul 2011)
So what they have time to cheat on their score? Face it the 4412 is better then the T3 but not a whole at better maybe up to 15% but not more. Talking about Merritt, you are the biggest samsung fanboy here, you troll a hell lot more then I do. HTC, and with snapdragon. You are the one going off topic. The S4 reference and real life are very similar.
35. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
Why dont you pull up the specs and tell me that again about the S4.. the qualcomm reference benchmarks vs the OneS/X
I have to "face" that the 4412 is the best chip out there.. just like I was saying it would be? Wow.. man.. thats gonna hurt.
Again, wait till commercial release to make comparisons. Otherwise you have a high likihood of having egg on your face when its over. Commercial results are almost always different from prelaunch results. And irregardless, the S3 has a lot going on at any given time than the One series, with that "natural interface" junk always leaving the FFC on to watch you and more... and it still won.
Just chillax. The SGS3 has already taken the crown anyways. Cant wait another week or 3 for official commercial resuts?
36. ngo2dd (Posts: 896; Member since: 08 Jul 2011)
How about you did it and see for yourself.
You are the one that said the 4412 going to blow the T3 out of the water and all the other chip. Let see you said that the S4 is slightly better then the 4410 so accord to you it is only slightly better.
And for someone who said he is the guru of processor her. You know that the different that the two chips has just in scores has more to do with optimization the raw power. Anyone who has use custom rom knows that. And the 4412 is made in house and yes their optimization is the best. People on XDA has said it for years.
41. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
wait for the commercial device. is it really that hard?
you only compare COMMERCIAL to COMMERCIAL, because thats what we call "the real world".
Did I ever say i was a processor guru? can you please link me to where i said that?
Its part optimization, its part more advance processor tech inside the processor itself. Just because the Krait is smaller doesnt mean its more advanced.
42. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
Can someone PLEASE get rid of these trolls that follow me?
My god.. one day they might accidentally be right about something.. then the world would end!
37. ngo2dd (Posts: 896; Member since: 08 Jul 2011)
He you are too lazy here you go
1 to 2 percent different so in fact very similar. So how have egg on their face?
40. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
direct comparison between the HTC one S AND One X, as well as the reference S4 device.
egg? i had egg for breakfast.
43. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
yes, you were actually right about that. I just glanced at the picture real quick and went from memory. The point remains, erase i/o from the score.
27. ananya22 (Posts: 93; Member since: 23 Apr 2012)
Is this worth the upgrade from s2? i feel like keeping my gs2 and wait for the next nexus maybe. its great i know tbat but still doesnt blow away gs2 so significantly that may make me go fr it in a heartbeat.
44. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
its about a 50% power improvement, after they added all the bloatware and gave it a huge resolution bump. Its about a big of an upgrade as any line of phones is going to get.
once its rooted, stripped down to bare ICS, and streamlined, i forsee major power out of this device.
47. ananya22 (Posts: 93; Member since: 23 Apr 2012)
Would you have given up an 8 month old gs2 for this? and i was trying to compare the diff between sgs1 and sgs2 with sgs2 and sgs3. S2 felt like an incredibly huge update from sgs1 to.me. This not quite as much from s2. what do you think?
30. cdnfreak (Posts: 26; Member since: 13 Mar 2012)
couldn't care less how it looks, as long as its fast, I plan on putting a otterbox case on it and that's all I'll ever see.
32. hitechredneck (Posts: 88; Member since: 21 Nov 2011)
thats interesting 5324 pts huh? Sony experia S hit 6400 from a dual core snapdragon
33. x7black7x (Posts: 118; Member since: 19 Feb 2012)
it looks good
take it in your hand and you'll feel it!
great ergonomics good design(i like it in white color more)
the software this time which samsung are providing us is great
pop up play
htc doesnt have these special features
34. thnkthru3 (Posts: 73; Member since: 25 Dec 2011)
Either way this is going to be one well supported phone. I can not see spending $700 - to $800 on an unlocked phone. Well actuall my wife can't see me spending that kind of money for a phone so it works out to the same thing:-) Can't wait to hear about an AT&T version:-) (I'll even take unsupported rumors at this point.)
45. andrew1953 (Posts: 176; Member since: 13 Nov 2011)
Who cares what its materials are? I am more concerned with its components and how efficient the device is. I like the big, bright Super Amoled screen (1280*780 screen) and memory-64GB plus another 32GB on micro SD card. As long as it has voice guided navigation,an FM radio, facebook,Twitter who could ask for anything more. Seriously, even if the materials maybe disappointing, technologically-features I think its brilliant. I just wish it had a stylus like the Note.
46. lastoutlaw (Posts: 8; Member since: 25 Nov 2011)
Lets keep it simple.
Design: Galaxy S3 < One X
Performance: Galaxy s3 > One X
Performance matters more than design to me :D
48. fraydoe (Posts: 57; Member since: 27 Dec 2011)
samsung i love you not for your looks, its whats inside that really counts *touches chest*
50. DylRicho (Posts: 17; Member since: 11 Apr 2012)
My HTC One S has got 5186 before and constantly gets in the 4900-5100~ area, so this is not much of a great score, considering the One S is dual-core and this is quad-core. If I'm honest, I was expecting better than that.
