Although we’re back to square one, Samsung did let out some details surrounding its next flagship. In fact, they specifically say that the successor to the Samsung Galaxy S II will “be unveiled in the first half of the year.” So there you have it folks, we can still dream about...

i have 1 question? why all the rumors said that the galaxy tab 11.6 will launch in mwc if in mwc samsung didn't show this product just when they will release it
5. doubler86 (Posts: 318; Member since: 26 Jan 2011)
Since MWC, I've assumed they would launch that with the GS III. It just makes the most sense. They will improve their flagship tablet after the iPad 3 just like they improved their tablet last year after the iPad 2. Samsung produces almost all of their own parts, so they have the ability to change and make improvements quickly, just like they did last year.

Samsung is having their own event this year. I would expect the flagship BADA, Tab, and SGS products to be announced then.

I'm really wondering what the specs of the S3 will be... if it's any less than the ff it'd be some sort of a dissapointment for me :p
hd screen (720 or 1080)
next gen GPU
fat battery (in terms of power)
these specs are what i'm really interested in! :)

i personally want all that but on the screen thing id prefer a 1080p super amo+ screen although i doubt it

I would like Samsung to push for a full HD with Super AMOLED + display, but like you said, I also think it's unlikely, as of now. May be within the next year or so. A full HD display on smartphones will be nice, imo, especially with Super AMOLED +. Who knows, may be Samsung will release a SGSIII, if that's what will be the successor to the SGSII, with a 4.8" full HD with Super AMOLED +, Quad-core, and 2GB of RAM.

size of a button with the power that can run a tank!

yeah, seriously. When the nanotube technology comes out, it is going to completely change the game not just in the cell phone world, but also in the world of electric cars and every thing else that uses a battery. Im super stoked for it.

I wonder if 720 and 1080 would make much of different on a screen size that small. They do make a huge different on TVs, but cell phone's screen still isn't that big. From my personal experience, from I switched from a 720p TV to a 1080p the image quality improved a lot, but with time the "wow" factor just isn't there anymore. It's like when you are watching a Blu-ray movie the first time, you are probably thinking "Wow, the image looks amazing", but about 20 minutes into the movie you won't be thinking about it anymore.
However, I am excited to see what Samsung will bring to the table :D Show me!! Show me!!

I dont think its as much of a clarity improvement as much as a "first to it" thing. I dont know that anyone's eyes, much less my own could see the difference in the density.. lol.
then again, that would be useful for mirroring to 1080p tvs to keep the aspect ratio. As much as samsung is converging their products to work with each other, that would make sense.

No more than 720p screen
A15 processor (dual, quad)
Thin/comfy to hold
Super awesome lens
What it should be if we're lucky
8. medicci37 (Posts: 614; Member since: 19 Nov 2011)
Should have more than 1gig of ram. My Nexus has less available RAM then my mytouch 4g. & def needs a better gpu. Also, would rather have duel core A15 then quad A9

I really hope this will come to Verizon. You would think after the S2 won "Phone of the Year" at MWC that Verizon won't let this one pass by.

1.5-2gigs DDR5 dual channel ram
exynos 4xxx A15 quadcore
5 inch 1080p bezel free screen
12mpx camera with dual LED, 2.0/f, karl ziess or better lens tech, and top notch processing software
ceramic or black/chrome finish
Stock ICS with touchwiz enhancements

i dunno man.. for all this, the thing better make my favorite coffee.. from scratch.. every morning.. with a back massage!! :)

Its highly unlikely to see A15 quad just yet...but I wish :) Not sure Samsung will go with Mali-604 or 658
17. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
If the phone is pushed back to summer, then the chances are pretty darn good. They started sampling the 4xxx quad a little while ago.
Sorry though, I forgot that the 4xxx quadcore was a die shrunk A9 chip (still way stronger than a crapdragon S4 Krait.. sad but true), the 5xxx chips are A15s
28. Mario1017 (Posts: 336; Member since: 04 Sep 2011)
Why are you so against snapdragons? The dual core s4 is the best performing CPU out there. I doubt the next exynos will "destroy" it. You can't say a thing about the 4xx being so amazing without taking a look at it first. Its like you're a blind sheep, its annoying reading your comments.
(Not bashing Samsung at all)
30. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
The snapdragon S4 is not. It does not exist in a commercial device. The exynos 4210 and the T3 quadcore are the best performing commercial chips available. For a very brief moment, the S4 will be ever so slightly above (10% or less improvement comparitively) the Exynos when it comes out, until the SGS3 comes out.
If the SGS3 comes with ONLY a 32nm Exynos 4212 dual core, it will be 50% faster than the current exynos.. which blows away the S4.
If it comes with a Quadcore A9 4xxx Exynos, it will be TWICE as fast as the current exynos, which will blow away the S4.
If it comes with the dual core A15 5xxx Exynos, it will also be twice as fast as the current exynos.. which again, blows the S4 out of the water.
The S4 is impressive when you compare it to last year's chips like the exynos, Omap, S3, and it even edges the T3 in some areas but not many. It is however, unimpressive when put next to 2012 chips like the 4212,4xxx,5xxx, OMAP5, and whatever else.
Qualcomm continues to use their own designs instead of ARM designs which gives them advantages like their complete radio compatibility with pretty much anything (which is why they are widely used), but its main disadvantage is power and battery usage.
They want to call the S4 "A15 like", when indeed it is only 30% stronger than unmodded A9 designs. True A15 designs are looking at nearly double the power from A9's.
Its not hate on Qualcomm, its a love of tech and an obsession with the high end.
32. Mario1017 (Posts: 336; Member since: 04 Sep 2011)
Ya...neither one of those links worked. What do you mean, the S4 is not a commercial chip. just because it not in a relewased phone does not mean you cant go pay qualcomm to get one of their reference devices with the S4.
And it EDGES out the T3 in SOME areas?
If you really want to throw some math into it. the S4 is not 30% better than the S3, stop making up numbers.
Just for examples. In Vellamo benchmark, the S4 scores 51% higherthan the S3, 63% higher than the T3.
In linpack single thread it scores 56% higher than S3 and 51% better than T3. Multithread it is 60% better than S3. and 38% better than the Tegra 3.
So no, the T3 does not edge out the S4 in any areas except the GPU by a few points and no other mark.
Dont even try to say that the current exynos blows away the S4, because that is not even anywhere near true. it is the opposite. if what you are saying (that thew new exynos is 50% faster than old) then the S4 should still be better than the new Exy (when it comes to those benchmarks, i did not want to waste time mentioning others)
You call it an obsession of high end? when you have not even realezed this "high end."

a reference device is a specialized device to show off the very best conditions a processor will see. They however are NOT indicative of real life performance. Once you add on all the manufacture overlays, carrier bloat, and change those optimum settings for more cost effective ones, the performance goes down.
Anandtech recently did a performance review of the HTC ONE-X international with the T3 quadcore and the HTC ONE-S with the S4 in it. The ONE-X was pushing something like 75% more pixels with its higher resolution and better screen density, yet still beat the S4 or tied it in most tests. Everything between the phones are equal other than the resolution.
When you look at Qualcomm's "reference design tests", the S4 almost aways wins. Again, the difference is real life vs the fantasy of "best possible conditions". For that reason, I ignore reference benchmarks, and so should you. Only when it is side by side with other chips running the same software like HTC Sense do you get a real feeling for which is more powerful. And on that field, the S4 pretty much failed as it takes 2nd place or a tie at best in over all head to head with the older T3 chip. Not nearly as impressive now, eh?
Yes, they still both edge out the Exynos. The T3 has a massive GPU so it definitely wins on that field. However all of the upcoming Exynos variants handily beat the T3 and S4 with 1 arm tied behind their back. And again, its between a 40-100% improvement from current exynos depending on which chip you are looking at (4212 A9 dual, 4212 A9 quad, 5xxx A15 dual)
Dont get me wrong, the S4 crapdragon is fine. All the chips coming out have plenty of power (though the crapdragon S4 GPU is still CRAP). However it still retains its crapdragon moniker with me as it fails to release itself from its constant last place standing. The T4 and OMAP5 chips are coming out shortly and both are also way stronger than the S4 which will be riding into late 2012/early 2013 until it sees its first major revision which is only a GPU exchange to increase graphics power.
The chip to watch this year is the OMAP5. From all early reports its going to be an absolute monster. It has the best chance of dethroning Exynos as king this year.
Yea, sorry PA has an issue with links lately, its been happening a lot.

also, just as a note
if you go to that anandtech article, they are comparing the OneX and OneS with the transformer prime along with others, so its a great opportunity to see the difference between stock ICS on a T3 (prime) and Sense on a T3 (OneX). Sense definitely takes a chunk of juice out of the chip.

Make up your mind. The S4 is paired with the Adreno 225 still and yes Tegra 3 beats it. So what.
S4 kills it in browser performance, as it should. The only place the Tegra 3 wins is in games - and there you're basically comparing a year-old Adreno 220 overclocked against what is basically a brand new Tegra 3.
There's nothing embarrasing about the S4 performance. Sure, newer chips will come out later this year with more cores, and be paired with stronger GPUs, but S4 will come out with more cores and a better GPU too.
Your constant hate on Qualcomm for doing their own design is a personal vendetta. There is certainly more data to be seen, but at this point it looks like a great choice. I browse 75% of the time and game less than 10%, so the Tegra 3 benches are not impressive.
39. Mario1017 (Posts: 336; Member since: 04 Sep 2011)
The new exy is said to be 26% more powerful. Not 40-100%. And also its like you don't understand that the S4 is still technically mid range chip. Qualcomm is releasing their quad core later this year and you can be sure that that one willbe a match for the omap and exy. This is not qualcomns best.
and yes. Everyone knows sense is heavy. And in some of those marks the one s scored higher than the x. But I would rather see a phone perform well rather than it score high on benchmarks.
20. JBz007 (Posts: 62; Member since: 02 Mar 2012)
That phone would be a monster. Makes my PC sound crappy lol.

"1.5-2gigs DDR5 dual channel ram"
DDR5? that's a typo right?.
23. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
not at all. High end computer video cards have been using it for a good while now, no reason it cant come down to the mobile space. :)
Its my wish list :)
128 GIGAbytes a second in data transfer capability :)
34. GuiltyBystander (Posts: 199; Member since: 05 Mar 2012)
There's a difference between GDDR5 and DDR5. :)
DDR4 is not even out yet, let alone DDR5, and GDDR5 is for graphics cards only and will never be in smartphones. :(
However, Sammy will most likely use the LPDDR3 RAM which they recently showcased(which is awesome). :)

oh i forgot the G :) its a G thang. lol
u know what I meant! :)
They probably will go that route. But hey, this was a wish list, not a reality list :)

You forgot 3500 mah removable battery and 64 gb onboard storage and micro sd slot :)

1080p at 5 inches would be around 440 ppi... The human eye can't distinguish density over 300 ppi, so that extra 140 pixels would be sorta useless

I think the SG3 will have a better powerful dual core rather than a quad core.
25. Guest_star (Posts: 231; Member since: 30 Dec 2011)
I would just like for other manufacturers to think like samsung does and not to race to be the first with new cores and stuff but to wait for the new stuff to become as best as possible and than to make a phone from it, I am talking about GPU and CPU here because screens are great and because well samsung will put 4 a-15 cores that will smoke away tegra3 and some badass GPU that will smoke tegras GPU, I'm not saying tegra 3 is bad I'm just asking why the rush, I know that being first in industry with something is important but being best is even more important
27. skymitch89 (Posts: 1040; Member since: 05 Nov 2010)
Doesn't Samsung have an event planned for sometime this month or next? I'm really sure that that's when we'll see the GS3/successor to GS2.
