Samsung Galaxy S 4 hardware was expected, so did the software wow us?

0. phoneArena 14 Mar 2013, 20:51 posted on

The Samsung Galaxy S 4 had absolutely nothing to really surprise us with on the hardware side when it was finally announced, because everything there was to know about the hardware was leaked before the event, all the way down to a complete teardown of the device less than an hour before Samsung's live event. So, we knew exactly what to expect on the hardware end, but as usual, the software was the star of the show, and so we want to talk about all of the new additions...

I don't know how to compare s4 to others, let's pick HTC One.
HTC One display is 468ppi pixels density while s4 only 441ppi
HTC One has 2.1m WIDE ANGLE front facing camera while s4 is 2megapixels normal
HTC One has a 4ultrapixel rear camera while s4 is 13megapixels (even ordinary camera busting away from megapixels myth eventually)
HTC One has stereo speaker, (beats audio built-in) while s4 is mono loudspeaker
HTC One has both Optical and digital Image Stabalizer while s4 comes with digital image stabalizer
s4 comes with octa-core chip while HTC One is quard-core snapdragon(but s4 octa-core won't available in every region, in some reagion s4 will come with quard-core snapdragon instead)
HTC One LCD is Scratch-resistant glass and metallic uni-body and splash resistant
s4 with expendable microSD slot
s4 with user replaceable battery

intern of UI: HTC One sense UI + blinkfeed is very impressive
As a gamer and multimedia user, i'll choose HTC One if what s4 spec published here is true, but HTC is really really suck in marketing

you should rush to a shop that has HTC One demo unit and try the ultra pixels camera,
extract from HTC - UltraPixel Sensor - Engineered with larger pixels, it enables each pixel to capture more than 300% more light than most leading 13 megapixel cameras.

try google and search for htc-one-ultrapixel-camera-how-does-it-stack-up

I'm not gonna be negative here but it seems like HTC and Samsung worked together on software features or somebody's copying someone here. But Samsung did a smart thing by capitalizing on other technologies available (floating touch, hyper sensitive screen, erase feature in camera, etc.) and packing it into their phone. About the coolest thing I saw was the dual shot feature which is actually quite clever.

Having read what people are saying, does no one consider preference anymore? For crying out loud people, you've surely got to be able to shed some positive light on what the Galaxy S4 offers.

Screen: rumored that Samsung was ditching amoled due to power issues, but they were able to implement it nonetheless to show off 1080p in vivid colors with higher saturation that you don't quite get with LCD.

Design: Yes it looks oddly similar to a Galaxy S3, which may be a bad thing to a purist who thinks each new phone should release in magenta and have machine guns on the side. But for the average consumer, they may see a resemblance to the device that nearly bested the iPhone 4s in sales.

Touchwiz: Here's where preference comes into play, kids. I'm using a Galaxy S2 using Shostock3 rom, which implements touchwiz nature UX and 4.1.2 jellybean and I love it! Samsung did make a few major improvements to their software, despite the gimmicks in the Galaxy S4, but they are adding those on top of what we got in the Galaxy S3 and of course some software from the note line.

For me, S Translator is definitely a GOOD feature. But seriously, apart from the build material (I'd use a flip cover anyway), what are use advantages of the htc one over this phone? Can't think of any.

S Translator is like google translate.

Some more advantages with the one are: Huge front facing stereo speakers, faster UI (I'm getting this from video comparisons and reviews), Beautiful aesthetic design, Better low-light camera performance, Higher Pixel density

Higher pixel density means nothing in this case. No one can tell the difference between a ppi of 441 & 468.
