Except for the slightly lower screen resolution, the Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0's hardware features appear to be superior to the iPod Touch 4th Gen.

Which specific features of the Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 fall short of the iPod Touch 4th Gen?

I can almost guarantee you that neither of these devices are dual core.

The current iPod Touch 4th Gen also has a slower single core processor, so that should be the basis of the comparison. The future iPod Touch 5th Gen may have a dual core, but no official specs have been release yet.

As appealing as they look, I just dont see them making much of a dent in the Ipod touch. The Ipod touch, with the exception of having a smaller screen size, is as good or better than this device for the same price. Samsung's more competitive on the phone front. For example, an 8GB Ipod Touch current gen is same price, but another gen will come out with the A5 processor for around the same price point in the future that will bury this with this just coming out now a year after the current gen Ipod Touch and doesnt even surpass that particular model. As much as I favor Android, it is an indisputable fact.

Granted, the iPod Touch 4th Gen's 3.5inch diag 960×640 "Retina" LCD resolution is better than Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0's 4inch diag 800x480 Super-TFT LCD and 5.0's 5inch diag 800x480 TFT LCD displays. However, sacrificing a little resolution (which may not be noticeable beyond 6inches away) for a bigger screen to maintain lower costs may be worth it to many.

It is also fair to mention that both Samsung Galaxy Players have features that the iPod Touch 4th Gen does not:

1. Larger screens (diagonally meaured: 4.0's 4inch and 5.0's 5inch compared to the iPod Touch 4th Gen's 3.5inch)

2. GPS (can use with downloaded maps when WIFI is not available)

3. FM radio (awesome feature when no WIFI is available)\

4. Vibration for silent alarms, button touch feedback, and games

5. File transfer via Bluetooth

6. Expandable memory (supports up to 32GB MicroSD card)

7. Removable battery (I can't wait to pay Apple $70 + shipping to one day replace my iPod Touch 4th Gen's battery. Apple can't possibly want to force me to buy a new $230+ device by making battery replacement so difficult...Or can they?)

8. LED Camera flash (Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 only)

9. Broader audio/video code support (including open source codes like ogg) and built-in viewers for Microsoft Office files.

10. Adobe Flash support (iPod Touch web browsing is very frustrating on sites with Adobe Flash)

Apples iPod Touch 5th Gen specs have not been officially released yet. But when the time comes, the new iPod Touch will have to contend the features listed above to stay competitive -- simply removing an additional physical button or increasing resolution beyond human detectability is no longer a meaningful upgrade for the iPod Touch.

you ar f****n mad the samsung galaxy player will hurt apple's sales and you know i am right come on man the next ipod/iphone 5 th gen will only have a 3.7 inch screen because it is "to expensive to have a 4inch screen"and plus flash player really hurts apple's sales but as for me if the new ipod touch comes out and has flash then nothing will compare to it.It will blow all their competitors into the dust

In my opinion, the galaxy player 4.0 is better than the iPod touch in some ways.. First of all the screen is bigger by .5 inches. I have used this myself and it just feels better in your hand. Secondly, their are 2 markets that you can shop from. Either the android market, or the Samsung app store. So you get more than one option without having to jailbreak anything like with the iPod. Whether you get more apps in total or not, you still have more options. And because it's android, you get customizable homescreens that you can put widgets and shortcuts on. You also have live wallpapers. Honestly, it's just what you prefer. If you like iOS, and you think that it's better, fine. I am simply sharing my opinion.
