Samsung Galaxy Note: who is it for? (size comparison)

0. phoneArena 01 Sep 2011, 08:26 posted on

We just can’t stop thinking about the new Samsung Galaxy Note with its inconceivably big 5.3-inch display. It’s gargantuan! Is it a mini tablet? Is it a maxi smartphone?…

Occasionally, when they want to be. I happen to be destitute because my ex-wife took me for everything I owned, but what can I say? I loved her... I gave her everything I could give. She made the choice to not be monogamous, and so I got a divorce... and I was willing to leave all my possessions with her so I could be free of the manipulation, abuse, and physical danger/disease from her new "partners". Once I waived all my rights, she let me go without asking for alimony. It was a trade off I was willing to make for my liberty, health, and sanity.

I prefer to give women the benefit of the doubt, though. I will admit I married one who didn't make decent choices, and wasn't the person she advertised herself to be when we were dating. I don't care how mean she was, how hard she hit me, or how many other men she was with... it doesn't make her less than a lady to me. I will not be going back to her ever, but I do forgive her. And I am not going to be holding it against any other lady, either. I will have respect for women, regardless of anything in the past, and regardless of anything in the future. The guys, on the other hand, have to earn it.

I actually had the Dell Streak 5, it's big, but pretty nice to use everyday. I returned it cuz the camera sucked and Dell sucks with updates and there's no dev community behind it.

The bigger the phone, the more breakable glass real-estate. I can't imagine wanting such a large screen for a phone. If you need a large screen, get a tablet! As for me, I'm happy with a small phone. The giant old plastic "brick phones" went out of style a long time ago, thank goodness... I didn't expect them make a ferocious comeback in the shape of a giant flat glass square.

For normal size hands, this is a great phone. Makes the Epic 4G Touch seem small.

I suppose that depends on your definition of "normal"...

I don't know... I wouldn't. But that's just me. There are plenty of different opinions out there, because everybody is different (thank goodness!).

In my humble opinion, this'll be no good as a phone. It's just too big! Ladies who just put their phones in their purses or men who have large suit pockets might but maybe not for people who keep them in their pockets. If I'm gonna use something like this more for tablet-like purposes, I'd rather get the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.

Again, this is my own opinion.

Can anyone hold it in one hand and text at the same time?

ive seen and held a galaxy s2, the galaxy note really dwarfs the sgs2...
im checking all my pants and pockets if i have the space for it..

My thumb may not reach that far to the other end of the screen using the keyboard
and i have big hands...

wow. wow wow wow (that's what she said). this thing is huge! (that's what she said). i think i want one! (that's what she said). when will this be released?? (that's what she said). it's really easy to navigate with big hands (that's what she said). it would take a really big hand to hold this up to your ear (that's what she said). i hope this comes in different colors! (that's what she said). 5.3 inches...? nyeah..... I can deal with that... (that's what she said). as long as it's really wide. wait, no, that would be bad (that's what she said?)...

It fits perfectly in my suit coat pocket so as a business phone its just perfect.
Now that spreadsheet and document page is really usable. Saves having to drag that 10inch tablet around in a breif case. Brilliant. The corporate market will love it.

See, I don't want a tablet because I don't want a separate line of service/data plan to pay for. This phone may be just right. I love that it has a stylus. I can't wait to handle one in the store and see how responsive it is.

not to sound like a total douchebag, but I just picture having to check for calls/emails/the time say in a club or simply at, maybe at a theme park... it just seems inconvenient considering it's size, ironically, the size making so many other things MORE convenient or at least functional, like the note taking or drawing aspects, as well with such a high res display, the video game or movie viewing aspects.

Come to think of it, it real is the Data pad that we see in the scifi movies of the future, but then, I wonder where they kept there datapads in star wars?

I've already pre-ordered mine. I agree it's mostly for professional use, like people who need to look at a screen for information very often during the day and in that case a 3 or 3.5 inch screen is just annoying. I'll continue to use my iPhone 4 though as a second phone.
