Samsung Galaxy Note: who is it for? (size comparison)

0. phoneArena 01 Sep 2011, 08:26 posted on

We just can’t stop thinking about the new Samsung Galaxy Note with its inconceivably big 5.3-inch display. It’s gargantuan! Is it a mini tablet? Is it a maxi smartphone?…

That wouldn't comfortably sit in your hand or pocket unless you wore cargos everyday.

No, this defnintely is waaay to big. 4 inch is perfect, 5.3 inch is almost crazy, that's a tablet

4 is even too big.
The point is to keep phones mobile. Hence 'mobile phone'
I hate the HTC bricks plus dummy kick stand. This aint a bike.

for me, 4 inch is perfect. Big enough to enjoy, yet small enough to fit in my pocket.

To each his own, I guess. I've had an EVO for over a year now and I've had no trouble carrying it around in my pocket or doing anything with it that I couldn't do with my old iPod touch. I'm not really into skinny, form-fitting clothing, so I have more than enough room in my pockets for the extra 0.3"x0.3"x0.13" of my EVO. I do agree that this 5.3 Note thing is WAY over the top though. If it is any consolation, iKingTrust, I'm almost certainly not getting an HTC next time around, and I'd definitely consider an iPhone5 if its screen were, say, around 4 inches.

sir your fanboyism is showing. Sheep claim that 3.5 inch is the perfect size for a touch screen yet I know 3 people who had iphones(myself as well) who switched to android because the iPhones screen was too small. One of them admitted that if the iPhone had a 4+ inch display they would switch back.

Some people love the idea of having a huge display like tablet with the ability to make calls. You can sit there and defend your little iphone all you want but you know damn well you'd be going crazy if they released an iphone with a larger screen.

I don't think the problem is with being a fanboy. I'd love nothing more than for all the Android and iOS fanboys to debate the pros and cons of each OS till the cows come home. I just think people need to learn how to post in a civil, educated manner. And if some people prefer a 3.5" screen to a 4" screen, all power to them. I have nothing against that. (And to clarify my previous comment, its not that a 5.3" device is way over the top, period. I'm sure Samsung did extensive research to figure out if there is a niche for this behemoth or not, and they believe there is. I just think it's too large for my tastes.)

Meanwhile if Apple releases the i5 with a 5" display, you would be posting how revolutionary Apple is. How great the display is. How everyone else will copy thier design. How you had to run out stand in line to get one.

i think Samsung GALAXY Note only for business use... after daily use of GALAXY S II i fell it is ok for my hand and i will hold in one hand... but 5.3" is too big to be called phone... i think 4.5" is more for any kind of SmartPhone...

Good luck holding that up to your ear to talk on... if you try to talk on it while driving, you now have a built-in blind spot the size of an 18-wheeler... if you talk on it in public, half of the crowd will think you are trying to hide your head... getting a Bluetooth headset for it is the only thing that makes usable sense; however, if you do use it in public and it becomes the "in" thing, I will be tempted to try to emulate you for a quarter of the price by pretending to talk on an Amazon Kindle.

This would be perfect for me because I hate holding up any smart phone to my ear ( even the droid incredible is a bit large against my face) so I use a bluetooth headset most of the time anyways. Having the screen size would be the best for me. Too bad verizon hates its customers.

There is no where in the civilized world where you should be holding up a phone to your ear while driving. I don't care if the phone is the size of a peanut. I hope your not driving next to me ever.

Occasionally, when they want to be. I happen to be destitute because my ex-wife took me for everything I owned, but what can I say? I loved her... I gave her everything I could give. She made the choice to not be monogamous, and so I got a divorce... and I was willing to leave all my possessions with her so I could be free of the manipulation, abuse, and physical danger/disease from her new "partners". Once I waived all my rights, she let me go without asking for alimony. It was a trade off I was willing to make for my liberty, health, and sanity.

I prefer to give women the benefit of the doubt, though. I will admit I married one who didn't make decent choices, and wasn't the person she advertised herself to be when we were dating. I don't care how mean she was, how hard she hit me, or how many other men she was with... it doesn't make her less than a lady to me. I will not be going back to her ever, but I do forgive her. And I am not going to be holding it against any other lady, either. I will have respect for women, regardless of anything in the past, and regardless of anything in the future. The guys, on the other hand, have to earn it.

The bigger the phone, the more breakable glass real-estate. I can't imagine wanting such a large screen for a phone. If you need a large screen, get a tablet! As for me, I'm happy with a small phone. The giant old plastic "brick phones" went out of style a long time ago, thank goodness... I didn't expect them make a ferocious comeback in the shape of a giant flat glass square.

In my humble opinion, this'll be no good as a phone. It's just too big! Ladies who just put their phones in their purses or men who have large suit pockets might but maybe not for people who keep them in their pockets. If I'm gonna use something like this more for tablet-like purposes, I'd rather get the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.

Again, this is my own opinion.

Now that spreadsheet and document page is really usable. Saves having to drag that 10inch tablet around in a breif case. Brilliant. The corporate market will love it.

not to sound like a total douchebag, but I just picture having to check for calls/emails/the time say in a club or simply at, maybe at a theme park... it just seems inconvenient considering it's size, ironically, the size making so many other things MORE convenient or at least functional, like the note taking or drawing aspects, as well with such a high res display, the video game or movie viewing aspects.

Come to think of it, it real is the Data pad that we see in the scifi movies of the future, but then, I wonder where they kept there datapads in star wars?

I've already pre-ordered mine. I agree it's mostly for professional use, like people who need to look at a screen for information very often during the day and in that case a 3 or 3.5 inch screen is just annoying. I'll continue to use my iPhone 4 though as a second phone.
