Samsung Focus 2 hands-on
0. phoneArena 07 May 2012, 17:22 posted on
Right off the bat, the unique thing that makes the Samsung Focus 2 stand out is the pristine white body it’s flaunting. At its core, the Focus 2 embodies a typical Samsung made device, as it sports a plastic body that’s decent with its construction, but notorious when it comes to attracting smudges. Nevertheless...

This is a very nice looking Windows Phone. At this price point, it should sell well.

I am currently using the VZW Trophy and it is a great phone. In the last 3 years I have had EVERYTHING. BB, iPhone 4, Android. The Trophy is the best to date. I took the Lumia for a test drive----very fast. Pretty much the same as Trophy---bigger/faster. Not sure I want the bigger. I can get a upgrade this month----my contract is up in Sept. Not sure what I am going to do. Scared off ATT. Not rated high in the LA area.

You've probably read, but it is rumored that Verizon will get behind Windows Phone 8, which should be out right around when your contract is up, give or take a month.
Just keep your fingers crossed.

It beats the shine off of the blue one, not sure about the white one though.

That looks very similar to the SGS3. I see samsung is starting to push similar design language across its platforms. Thats good.
What I think is funny, is that it looks very similar to the SGS3, and yet some people are already saying its nice looking, yet hating on the SGS3. Blow it up to 4.8inches, add another flash on the back, shrink the bezels and its an SGS3 with very minor differences.

i guess SGS 3 gonna look nice in hands. i really liked this design scheme of sammy. its no alien ware but its nice.

you ALWAYS know an Alienware when you see it. :) Yea, they have some pretty killer designs.

i mean all the hype made people feel like there are going to see something from outer space hence many were disappointed with the design language of S3. but its a good looking phone and i am sure it will outperform everything else out there.

No doubt about who's the Android King as of the moment. And giving the SGS3 a minimalistic look is actually a plus for me (like the wonderful N9).
No blings, no nonsense. All business. Let's rock! :p

Totally agree. I have no idea why so many are bashing the GS3.
Unlike the Focus Flash, Sammy's other attempt at a cheap WP, it stands out with the white and silver color scheme and the 4.0" screen, which is the sweet spot. If you like small screens, it ain't to big, if you like big screens, it still is large enough to enjoy the all touch screen experience. Nice it is LTE. AT&T is adding major cities at a decent pace.

Yeah it looks similar to SGS3 but still there is something which makes it looks better than SGS3 . "Shrink the bezel" i think this makes Focus2 a better looking devise than the SGS3 . The bezels are too thin in SGS3 compared to the phone size .
Off-topic SGS3 looks good . But it could have been designed better a lot better since it is their flagship phone and "a successor of the most selling android phone" and this is only our disappointment . Samsung could concentrate more design since all other OEM's are concentrating on it .
For Nokia its N9 and Lumia , for Motorola its Razr , for Sony Xperia series (first arc and now Xperia S,P) , Iphone may be old very old but still it was a better design at that point . At least Htc One is not a deal breaker when it come to design . But Samsung being No.1 in all other aspects could concentrate more in designing its flagship phones .

ima snag that and the lumia 900 for my grandparents

I'd rather stick with all Lumias... better camera, larger screen, nicer materials... for $50 difference on a 2-year contract (about $2.08 per month over 24 months) it'd be much more worthwhile, personally

Looks very similar to the SG3 but something about this phone makes the design work!!!

Please take off your thumb ring. That's all I can see in these pictures.

The focus s is still better. That had a 4.3" plus display.
17. Lucas777 (Posts: 2137; Member since: 06 Jan 2011)
and also much more expensive... i think samsung realized they are not going to beat nokia with an expensive phone at nokias price point so they sacrificed some quality and undercut the price
24. snowgator (Posts: 3346; Member since: 19 Jan 2011)
Love my "S". Nokia's 900 is a decent offering and the Cyan (I call it light blue, but what do I know) stands out. It also has the advantage of LTE. But the "S" is a great device with no real problems since it's launch. It is easy to get at the same price as the 900 if you shop around.
The Focus 2 is actually a nice alternative to the Nokia. If the 5.0 camera takes decent pictures and it performs like the "S" did, it might actually be a better buy than the 900.

Maybe they'll come out with a Focus S2. This seems to be an upgrade on the Focus Flash

Is there anything different besides the hardware of this Windows Phone? For example, what is different between this phone and the Lumia 900 besides the shell?
31. DFranch (Posts: 148; Member since: 20 Apr 2012)
Smaller screen, 5mp vs 8 mp Camera and 8gb vs 16gb storage.
27. grif_ (Posts: 61; Member since: 28 Apr 2012)
And thats why samsung is on top. It has both android and windows devices. As well as its own bada, and tizen devices which hopefully get released in the near future. Sammy will be on top for a long time.

is that a lumia 710/610?.. xD
samsung you should improve your smartphone designs... and be original...

Seems to crib a bit from the HTC Radar too. Looks nice enough, just generic and uninspired

I wonder what made Samsung changed their mind about putting out another WP device before WP8 comes out. Anyway this a welcome developement for fans of Windows Phone. So now there is an LTE Windows Phone for $49, $99, and $199 price points at AT&T. Hope this helps the platform gain more adherents.

I am a great supporter of windows phone, but I don't see the need to upgrade to new phone once you've already bought one.The windows platform is the same across all smart phones. For example, I have the Samsung Focus (one). It's a great phone and runs Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. It can even record 720p video as well as multitask. It runs buttery smooth. The only difference to the Focus 2, I see is the front facing camera and faster processor. Would I really pay $400-$500 (off contract) or $50 and get stuck with a 2-year contract for only those two options and LTE that isn't fully developed yet? I don't think so. HTC Titan II is more appealing, but all it has is the larger screen, processor and better cameras. Waiting for WP8. :)
Also, this seems very similar to the Focus Flash and Focus S...I only see screen size differences
