We’ve already heard about the Samsung Exynos 5 series of chips, but now Samsung has posted a whitepaper for the Samsung Exynos 5250…

No doubt this will be a bad to the bone setup but as expected we get better as time goes on and dont think for a second that apple wont be getting the best of the best chip designs.

This isn´t the first A15-based CPU, think about the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Series.

Snapdragon S4 uses A9 cortex only but it is based on a 28nm technology which is more efficient than 32 nm technology of exynos 4412 . There is not comparison between a cortex A9 and cortex A15 .

Yes, just referred Wiki and AnandTech. S4 uses a Krait core which is a modified version of A9 but its performance is comparable to A15. But architecturally, A15 is a bit better than Krait. I think Exynos will be the best A15 based SoC.

This is understandable. A15 came out nearly a year after Krait but still can't have a substantive improvement and that means Qualcomm has done a terrific job.

Qualcomm chips are outstanding ... no offense to samsung but it really does....in terms of thermal and performance, it feels a lot more efficient .... This is why windows phone is so smooth.... MS really knows how to choose a manufacturer.

I will take 32nm HKMG over 28nm polysi any day of the week. Who cares about half nodes. Even Intel skipped it all together

technically the 32nm HKMG is more efficient than kraits 28nm process, which is why exynos achieves more power and battery savings than krait. Its not all about its size (which is important), its also about HOW its made.
Qualcomm likes to "go their own way" with their chips. Good for them.. unfortunately none of their designs have yet to be top in class... or even close to top in class. So unless they can get better than ARM at chip design, then need to just knock it off and modify ARM designs like everyone else does.

The S4 core is Krait, which is similar in performance to A15, but the architecture is somewhat different

S4 Krait is "A15 like" according to qualcom, however it performs NOTHING like an A15. It doesnt even perform like the A9 exynos 4212/4412. If it performed like an A15 at all, it would be at the top of the performance pile, not fighting for last place.
The Krait Pro has a chance of being better than the current crop of super powered A9's, but its easily outclassed by this TRUE A15, and I'd bet money that it will be outclassed by every true A15 that follows.

It is not the first SoC based on ARM Cortex A15 architecture. Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 is the first one using ARM Cortex A15 CPU cores.

We don't really know about performance yet, but if the specifications are correct A15 is "only" going to be around 40% more powerful than the A9.
Then you would be right (Krait cores are around 30% more powerful than the current A9)
I must admit I'm a little dissapointed, I was expection A15 to double the performance of A9
We'll see the truth when the first gadgest go to market.

Asif, your falling for Qualcomm's advertising which like many things you see on TV, isnt completely factual. They called it "A15 equivilant", not an "A15". However it is NEITHER.

its both. One supplies the base designs and requirements to be called A15, and the other tweaks the snot out of it to make it faster than anyone else.

It will make developers even less willing to bother with it.
Heck, just look what's going on with the latest MacBook pro.
They should stick to full hd and up to 10inch screens. It's enough and would make developing apps incomparably easier.

Your question is out of place. Most people would like to have a pumped up screen WITH plenty of supported apps.
That Android ecosystem is not ready of such a resolution is just a personal opinion. That's why you got the thumbs down.
I personally think that someone has to be the first to put a higher resolution even if there are no apps for it. Then when there are devices with it the applications will come. If you don't start with the devices you'll never get the applications there (ask yourself: where there any applications for the iPad 3 resolution at first? NO).
Second: that the chip ALLOWS such a resolution doesn't mean that they are going to use it. They can use the SoC with a lower resolution too. So your claim makes about if Android is ready or not makes actually little sense.
Do you still wonder why you got the thumbs down?

the diff between android and iOS is that ALL android apps have a native feature that allows them to auto adjust to any resolution as well as properly zoom if need to. How do you think that any app is compatible across the wide range of android devices and tablets? iOS has no such feature and each resolution has to be individually added by the developer.
Thats also why there is the false cry about "lacking android tablet apps" compared to iOS. Technically like 99% of all Android apps are already compatible because of that aforementioned feature. They dont need a special "for tablets" separate section/app like you have with iOS. One app does both tablets and phones. Like everything there is a +/-. Apps are almost always auto compatible, but not all apps take up good use of the larger screens. Good app devs will go in and have it redraw to take better use of higher resolutions, but that is up to the dev. With apple, since tablet apps are seperate from phone apps, they have to be designed for the larger screen in mind, which is why they mostly seem to look nicer. Of course, I have yet to run into too many android apps on my tablet that DONT take advantage of the higher resolutions. That was more of an initial launch issue.

Exynos 5250 is 20 nm because the new internal 64 Gb memory chip is 20 nm and 2 Gb RAM are in used by Galaxy S3.
Apple will stay away from Samsung components in the future because Apple wanted to destroy Samsung phones and tablets by their crazy Patent Wars "the look and feel".

About time that they send out some news. They've been working on this for a while, and I'm actually a bit disappointed that they didn't include this in the US variant of the GS3 and the Galaxy Tab 2 7 & Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. It would be nice to see it come out in the Note 2.
