Rumor: HTC may bring us the first octa-core 64-bit phone

Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 615. It's the world's first octa-core 64-bit SoC, based on Cortex-A53 architecture and offering 4G LTE support. Just after the announcement, rumors spurred up, saying that the first phone that might be equipped with the new chip would be a new HTC Desire, which would maybe (big maybe) be uncovered at this year's IFA, just a couple of weeks from now. HTC's invite for the event further fueled the rumors with the cryptic line "See what's next for smartphones at HTC's IFA breakfast"

These upcoming desire handsets are just gonna be used for testing, I would wait for next year to see how capable it is on their future devices

I'll wait for moto. HTC devices are overpriced here in my region. With moto i get near stock UI(i love stock UI most and then HTC's sense) and moto gives updates even for low end devices which samsung,HTC,sony, don't even care about.
But HTC device look nice and good quality too.

If this phone has the 64 bit octa core. Then it will be the mediatek chip were heard a while ago. Qualcomm doen't have any octa core CPUs.

Forget the octacore. HTC should fix their cameras first then bring in the octacore beast.

Yes I totally agree. Those 4MP cameras on the M7 & M8 are such utter trash! I would settle for a top of the line 8MP camera. Geezzzz!

They aren't terrible and anyone who has tested an m7/m8 would say so. All of my friends told me that the camera on my phone is beautiful and it captures images just like as if it were taken on a dslr camera. Only here would I see people bashing the ultrapixel cam but elsewhere it is praised.

There is no review praising the HTC's camera performance. M8 is okay in Facebook quality pics but blow up to screen size and its not good at all.

Exactly. But reviews are nothing if the pics will be judged by an average clueless smartphone consumer. My friends hid their iphone 5 and kept asking me to use my m8 instead as they were amazed by the camera

But why just cater to the clueless average smartphone consumers? You can please all if HTC just make an above average camera that most of the big brand high end phones use. Also, an above average to high quality 8 plus megapixels cameras are extremely cheap make in the first place.

OMG... you are giving example of your friend who has iphone 5?... comeonnnn, ofcourse he will ask you for your m8 bcoz every flagship phone's camera is better than iphone's camera... thats no secrete

if your blowing up a picture, you SHOULD have shot it with a DSLR.

A lot of people forget that the HTC One M7 and M8 4mp ultrapixel cameras are top notch for low light images. Even if you don't use the flash.

You're so right. Even all my friends love the camera on my m7 and when it comes to selfie they only ask for my phone as it has such a good quality & wide angle lens . I sure cannot crop but don't see any reason to crop as photos look good on my 22.5' lg monitor. But for sure they should increase their mp in ultrapixel for 2015 as it's been 2years we're seeing 4mp.

My friend got the M8 a couple weeks ago, and the camera was mediocre at best when he first used it. But then he messed with the settings a little, and it turned out to be pretty good. It takes a bit of tinkering, but you can get some nice pictures out of the M7 and M8.

In 2 years, we will say: Those 8MP cameras on the M10 and M11 are such utter trash! I would settle for a top of the line 16MP camera. 4 years: Those 16MP cameras on the M12 and M13 are such utter trash! I would settle for a top of the line 21MP camera. 6 years: Those 21MP cameras on the M14 and M15 are such utter trash! Top of the line 41MP cameras FTW. 8 years: Those 41MP cameras on the M15 and M16 are such utter trash! I would settle for a top of the line 55MP camera. 10 years: 55MP cameras are garbage used on cheap Chinese phones! I would settle for a top of the line 80MP camera. Stop the megapixel is better war. Geezzzz!

The problem is 90% of people haven't got a clue how megapixels work. Camera manufacturers have brainwashed people into thinking more megapixels equals better quality photos. Which is not the case, all it does it creates larger files. If you need to print movie posters then your 16MP camera is fine. If you need to print 4x6 or 5x7 then a 4MP camera will do the job. The quality of the photo is determined by quality of the sensor and the lense. Once people understand that, they will realize the adding more MP's is just a waste.

htc first again at doing things and last again at selling them

Sad but true.... They don't got enough money to match Samsung,Apple on marketing. Also their some recent moves like ultrapixel were failed to impress. But great things like their great design, boom sound stereo speakers, sense, didn't got enough attention it deserved. Also failed to make enough brand recognition like Samsung's Galaxys and Apple's iPhones. Many my neighbours think HTCs are some dump Chinese company.
16. Taters (Posts: 3690; Member since: 28 Jan 2013)
They haven't done many firsts in a long while. Maybe when they were the only Android company around but they are not even close to what LG and Samsung does for this industry. Which is understandable considering they don't actually manufacture any components like Sony, Sharp, LG, and Samsung do.
That's their main problem. Because they don't design their own components, they are clueless at putting them together properly and they don't have the clout Apple does where they can ask the manufacturer to tailor design components for them.

No smartphone camera offers DSLR quality, period.Maybe in 2-3 years when OIS and laser focus systems become standard in smartphones.
