0. phoneArena 16 Oct 2012, 16:54 posted on

Yes, the Holy Grail has been discovered by djrbliss. He has taken the time (once again) to come up with a working root method for the newest Motorola smartphones: DROID RAZR M, DROID RAZR HD, DROID RAZR MAXX HD, and the Atrix HD.

This is a discussion for a news. To read the whole news, click here

yeah, i'll be trolling like a mofo if the OTA does indeed come out on Thursday. that would not only mean that the Razr M got JB a month after it's release but it would also mean that it got it before the SIII. xD

I think we all would be laughing then, King. You know, except SIII owners who haven't rooted.

Like I said a few days ago.....I have yet to see an Android phone not be rooted. Some may take longer than others, but they eventually get rooted.

They day I cant root an Android phone, or one I want....is the day I start thinking about switching to WP.

why can't all phones come with an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER??!?!?!?!?!??

especially HTC and Moto..

I remember spending close to two days trying to downgrade the Hboot of my Desire S and then rooting it, soft bricking the phone halfway and spend a night without a working phone (I couldn't sleep well that night, and couldn't wake up in the morning because there was no alarm)

Hey Kurogiii + jroc74, When you root a android device I know you can use wifi hotspot for free.. Now I have a Evo4G and I am switching to the Galaxy Note 2 on launch under Sprint.. Unfortunately they aren't putting up LTE in my area for up to 40days after i purchase the phone(more likely 20-30). Anyways since I am doing this I will be losing my Wimax 4G connection. I really don't want to be held to 3G for the mean time while I'm at my house.

My question is, Can I use a rooted EVO4G(its not rooted yet but i will root it once i buy my gn2) to launch a Wifi hotspot if it is not connected to the account any longer.. It could be a stupid question but considering you need to pay the extra amount to connect to it anyways but you can root to bypass it regularly.. can you root it to connect when it isnt on network.. ?

i'm afraid that if it's not activated then you will not be able to use the hotspot functionality.

do you have USB Debugging enabled?

go to Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging
also make sure Developer Options are enabled in general at the top of the menu.

Make sure you download and install the Motorola Device Manager. Not entirely sure if that is what it was for me, but it worked afterwards.

Yes, USB debugging is enabled. When i go to setting, i can choose developer options, and go into that menu, but there is no developer options to "enable" in general. when i hook it up to the comp, what shouod i select.... Mass storage, Media device, or Camera? im assuming it should be mass storage right?

This root worked perfect. The problem that I'm having now with our phones is the OTA update. It goes through the motions but then it comes up and says that the install failed. Anyone else having this issue?

you rooted BEFORE you did the OTA? xD

install OTA Rootkeeper, temp unroot, install the update and then go back into OTA Rootkeeper and re-enable root.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I wasn't expecting the OTA to be out this soon. You know how Motorola is. I'll post back if it all works out. I have busybox installed also so I hope that the rootkeeper will work work since I can't uninstall busybox without causing the a loop boot.

I waited till after the OTA and motofail2go simply didn't work for me. Did those of you who had success do anything besides run the BAT file? This is frustrating as hell...feel like dumping this phone for something I can root.

i was able to root it on JB. don't get frustrated and decide to just ditch the phone.

i found that replacing the Superuser.apk and the su files did the trick for me after i was having trouble with it. just download the "Rootzipfile" from the "Installing a recovery and rooting your Dev Razr-M" article on aosp.us and replace the "Superuser.apk" and the "su" files that's in the folder you're running the script from with the duplicates in the zip file you downloaded.

Ahhh.... I found the issue I kept having with the update fail (even with the OTA Rootkeeper.. KingKurogiii, your suggestion did work but it took me some time to figure out that it was absence of the sys apps (bloat wear) that I had deleted that was causing the update to fail. I reinstalled them all, used the Rootkeeper app, and then loaded the update with no problem. Thanks for the advice. Of course the butt kicker is after all this and it wasn't even the JB update. So I'm still waiting on it for my Motorola Electrify M.

@KingKurogiii: Thanks for taking the time to give me the steps. It worked as described. Occasionally I loose 4G in my area for short periods. I hope it's just a coincidence that I'm only getting a 3G signal after rooting and 4G will resume when it's available. This process doesn't hurt 4G connectivity does it?

while the phone is powered on with the screen on you just press Power + Vol Up together until you feel a pretty subtle vibration and then proceed through the next steps. it's the Power + Vol Down which is making your phone reboot.
